[edit] Gemstones vs jewels

See also: Gemstone, Jewel

Gemstones are the pebbles, nuggets, lumps, etc that are gained by gathering, salvaging, or crafting in the game. A Jewel is an upgraded gemstone. A jewel and gemstone of the same variety (topaz, carnelian, etc.) will give bonus (or bonuses) to the same attributes, though the bonuses will be higher from the jewel. Both gemstones and jewels serve the same purposes: they are used as activators when crafting rings, earrings, and amulets; they can both also be added to existing items (weapons, armor, or trinkets) that have an Upgrade Slot.png upgrade slot. There are 6 gemstones in Tier 1 (copper) followed by 7 gemstones in every subsequent tier (2 (silver) - 6 (orichalcum) ) after that. Jewels are made by combining a "Filigree" with the desired gemstone. There are three gemstones that are available immediately upon reaching the tier, the rest of them are available 25 levels later and the jewels another 25 levels after that.

[edit] Discovery

The Jeweler Discovery Pane.
The Jeweler Crafting Pane.

Most jewelry recipes require the use of Discovery. Discoverable jewelry follows the pattern of combining two specific components of the same metal then adding a jewel or gemstone of the same tier.

The standard recipes are:

Skill.png Ring = 1 Skill.png Setting + 1 Skill.png Band + 1 Skill.png Gemstone
Skill.png Earring = 1 Skill.png Setting + 1 Skill.png Hook + 1 Skill.png Gemstone
Skill.png Amulet = 1 Skill.png Setting + 1 Skill.png Chain + 1 Skill.png Gemstone
Skill.png Jewel = 1 Skill.png Filigree + 1 Skill.png Gemstone

DMasterwork items are discovered by substituting a jewel for a gemstone in one of the recipes listed above. ERare items usually require either five gemstones, or three jewels. FExotic jewels are made with the unlockable Karma recipe items. FExotic jewelery items generally require five FExotic jewels to be discovered.

[edit] Amulets

Amulets are created by combining one Skill.png Chain with a Skill.png Setting and a Gemstone or Jewel of the same crafting level. Exceptions exist for recipes that are not learned in Discovery but are instead purchased. Amulets cannot be equipped until level 20, or crafted until discipline level 50.

[edit] Non-discoverable recipes

The recipes for these items cannot be learned through the Discovery process like those listed above. They only become available after using a recipe sheet purchased from an NPC, and are character-based, not available to all characters on an account.

[edit] Craftable jewels

The recipes for the jewels listed in these tables are obtained through the discovery process.

[edit] Non-discoverable jewels

The jewels listed below require the use of a Recipe sheet before their recipes can be learned. The recipe sheets are available from master jewelers for 231-308 Karma.png and are character-specific.

Edit: Embellished Brilliant Azurite Jewel (300-375) and Exquisite Azurite Jewel (400) must be discovered (using materials stated below) and are not available to buy as recipes from Master Jewelers.

Non-discoverable jewels

Rare jewels for level 125-375 can be made into all trinkets, but require three jewels each.

[edit] Tips

  • Discovering new recipes yields more experience than crafting.
  • Items that display as orange yield the most experience.
  • You can use salvage kits to recover some of the gems you use.
  • At each new level, start by refining metals for two reasons: it is experience that you cannot receive later and you need the refined materials to make other items. For example, you need 600 copper ore to make the 300 ingots required to reach rank 25, starting at rank 0. However, you can make as few as 252, enough to make all the other recipes (and they will give additional experience).
  • After refining, make settings, bands, chains, and hooks.
  • This will enable you to use filigrees to upgrade gemstones, which will enable you to reach the next level.
  • If you have 2 of each gem type in a tier, you can usually get to the next one by making as many ingots as you can (100+), then 14 settings, 14 hooks, and 7 filigrees. Discover the 7 base earrings (setting + hook + gem), then the 7 upgraded jewels (filigree + gem), then the 7 master earrings (setting + hook + upgraded jewel). At this point you should be very close to the next tier, if not in it, and can discover rings (the next cheapest item to make) with the upgraded jewels to get into the next tier.

[edit] Recipe Formulas

To discover every recipe using copper requires 216 ingots (432 Copper Ore). However, note that you most likely will need to craft extra accessories before being able to craft the chains and filigrees available at (50).

  • 18 Copper Filigree (2 Ingots each) = 36 Ingots
  • 12 Copper Band (3 Ingots each) = 36 Ingots
  • 12 Copper Chain (4 Ingots each) = 48 Ingots
  • 12 Copper Hooks (2 Ingots each) = 24 Ingots
  • 36 Copper Settings (2 Ingots each) = 72 Ingots

To discover every recipe using silver and gold requires 252 ingots (504 ore).

  • 21 Gold Filigree (2 ingots each) = 42 ingots
  • 14 Gold Band (3 ingots each) = 42 ingots
  • 14 Gold Chain (4 ingots each) = 56 ingots
  • 14 Gold Hooks (2 ingots each) = 28 ingots
  • 42 Gold Settings (2 ingots each) = 84 ingots

To discover every recipe using Orichalcum requires 175 ingots (350 ore).

  • 35 Orichalcum Filigree (2 ingots each) = 70 ingots
  • 7 Orichalcum Band (3 ingots each) = 21 ingots
  • 7 Orichalcum Chain (4 ingots each) = 28 ingots
  • 7 Orichalcum Hooks (2 ingots each) = 14 ingots
  • 21 Orichalcum Settings (2 ingots each) = 42 ingots

NOTE: The above recipe formulas DO NOT include recipes which involve Recipe Sheets bought with Karma.
