Gemstone

From Guild Wars 2 Wiki
Jump to: navigation, search

A Gemstone is a mineral that can be used as an upgrade component for equipment or in the crafting of trinkets, where it has three possible uses: as an activator in recipes for trinkets; to create jewels by combining with a comparable filigree; or to transmogrify higher-tier gemstones.

[edit] Attribute Bonuses

Gemstones of different tiers provide various bonuses to certain attributes, becoming stronger as the tier increases. When a gemstone is crafted into a jewel they become stronger still. See Jewel for more information. Gemstones that give bonuses to the attributes Critical Damage.png Critical Damage and Magic Find.png Magic Find (such as peridot, sunstone, ..., ...) will use the percentage listed for the minor bonus.

  • Note that the Pearl isn't a pebble but nevertheless a Tier 1 Gemstone. Also there is no Coral Shard but a Coral Chunk and a Coral Tentacle instead of a Coral Crystal.

[edit] Acquisition

Gemstones are most commonly found while harvesting ores, logs, or clams. Higher-tier ores can yield higher-tier gemstones. For example, mining copper ore could yield a turquoise or malachite pebble (tier 1 ore and gemstones), while mining in silver or iron ores could yield a lapis or carnelian nugget (tier 2 ores and gemstones). Gemstones may also be acquired as loot, particularly from elementals. It is possible to acquire tier 3 or higher gemstones (lumps, shards, crystals and orbs) by mining, they can be acquired by looting.

[edit] Transmogrification

Transmogrification is the process of turning a number of lesser gemstones into one gemstone of the next higher tier. This process can result in either the same class of gemstone (2 Carnelian Nugget.png Carnelian Nuggets + 1 Pile of Shimmering Dust.png Pile of Shimmering Dust = 1 Carnelian Lump.png Carnelian Lump) or in an entirely different class of gemstone (1 Garnet Pebble.png Garnet Pebble + 1 Turquoise Pebble.png Turquoise Pebble + 1 Pile of Glittering Dust.png Pile of Glittering Dust = 1 Amethyst Nugget.png Amethyst Nugget). Transmogrification is done at a Jeweler's station, and the recipes automatically become available as your crafting skill level increases.

[edit] Uses in Crafting

Gemstones can either be directly incorporated into a recipe for a ring, amulet, or earring, or they can be upgraded with a filigree to create a Jewel. A jewel increases the same attributes as the base gemstone, but at higher values.
