Might be better to create a gallery for them so you don't have to click every file to see what it looks like. But otherwise a good idea. —Ventriloquist 17:44, 23 August 2016 (UTC)

That idea solved by biggest issue with the layout of this; thanks. -Darqam (talk) 18:21, 23 August 2016 (UTC)

Commander tags[edit]

I don't think we'll end up using the two 32x32 commander icons. The blue 32x32 version ended up unused, aside from being featured on [[template:Commander|this unused template]]. —Ventriloquist 21:56, 23 August 2016 (UTC)

What I was planning on doing is leaving un-used images up for a set period of time (maybe 1 month or so) and then setting them for delete after that. Doing so would allow possible use for them if anyone thinks at a later point. I'll also try to implement a log subpage of eventually un-used and deleted images so they can be found quickly in the dat if need be. That last part being more for me than anything else.
If that timing of 1 month seems too long I can change it; but I would rather have things up for a little bit just in case. That said; thanks for pointing the detail out about the tags. I didn't think of it during upload but I will for future uploads. Since we have image scaling, no need to upload a smaller version of the same image.-Darqam (talk) 22:04, 23 August 2016 (UTC)
Oh yeah, sure, go for it, sounds good. I can't think of any other map icons other than the commander tags that go unused, so you should be in the clear (since I doubt ANet will start adding commander colors monthly). —Ventriloquist 22:07, 23 August 2016 (UTC)
Unrelated directly to present conversation; how did you get the bigger versions of File:Commander tag (orange).png? Did you just download, crop, resize and upload? Or do you have a stash of black magic somewhere? -Darqam (talk) 22:13, 23 August 2016 (UTC)
Yeah, I just Photoshopped it. Changed size to 128x135 (to be consistent with the others) and then transformed it until it looked similar to the other four. Err, I mean, black magic, yes. —Ventriloquist 22:16, 23 August 2016 (UTC)

Dupes[edit]

Hey Darq, do you want me to delete the dupes (such as the invulnerability one or the Mistlock one), or do you want me to leave them for archiving sake? —Ventriloquist 11:49, 25 September 2016 (UTC)

Yeah the mistlock one can go, it's a definite duplicate. The invuln one however is a different icon (maybe an update?). Compare Destruction Immunity.png to Determined.png. There are definite differences. I think it would be worthwhile to find if this is for a new effect or an update on this icon. My guess is there is some minor tweak on the mistlock one, but it's so small that whatever. -Darqam (talk) 17:39, 25 September 2016 (UTC)
Ooh yeah, it's different, I just glanced it. I'll annihilate the Mistlock one, and leave the others alone. —Ventriloquist 17:51, 25 September 2016 (UTC)
I caught a glance of a destroyer spawning while invulnerable and it still had the old/current/first/whatever icon. So this new one is not a replacement for your typical invulnerability at the very least. -Darqam (talk) 04:33, 28 September 2016 (UTC)
Hm, I don't see a reason why ANet would add a new inv. icon if they already had a decent one. Could potentially be used for effects similar to invulnerability, if/when they show up in the game. —Ventriloquist 20:01, 28 September 2016 (UTC)
It was used for Destruction Immunity which players can turn on/off at will on training golems. Spannu (talk) 07:00, 4 December 2016 (UTC)

Project Continuation?[edit]

So this probably mostly addresses Ventriloquist and Doodleplex; but also anyone who sees this or used the page. Now that there has been one big bath use for this page I'd like to know if it is worthwile for me to maintain this page or is having to move the icons more trouble than it's worth? I don't mind keeping this up, but if it's causing issues/more work then I will drop it (since I have all the files on my computer anyway it makes no real difference to me). -Darqam (talk) 14:47, 26 September 2016 (UTC)

Can't speak for Doodle, but I like this project. It serves as a quick overview of the new icons we get in the patch, which is always welcome. It's easier to move icons to a new name, as opposed to ripping the new ones from the dat, finding the correct one and then uploading it, in my opinion. —Ventriloquist 15:10, 26 September 2016 (UTC)
Hasn't caused me any trouble. I'd say keep it, I've found it pretty helpful. - Doodleplex 20:21, 28 September 2016 (UTC)

Icon Finder Request[edit]

Template:Scribe would love to bigger versions of the scribe icon if they exist. =) - Doodleplex 02:16, 29 November 2016 (UTC)

So I wasn't able to find an exact copy (yet?) but did find: File:I'm A Big Scribe Now.png. I'm also fairly certain that most of those templates use user-made icons based off anet icons (or maybe not). -Darqam 03:04, 29 November 2016 (UTC)
Lol that file name is adorable. Was it really named that in the .dat? XD (Also I think it's the same as File:Master Scribe.png). If it's user made icons, I can certainly do that myself during the maintenance is occurring. =D - Doodleplex 03:28, 29 November 2016 (UTC)
Nah, nothing in the dat has an actual name, everything is numbers. And yeah it's a duplicate upload, so delete tag :/. I'll keep looking, but honestly I think you might have a better chance vectorizing the image and expanding it. -Darqam 03:35, 29 November 2016 (UTC)
Whipped up something in Illustrator today during the maintenance, it should do if nothing else pops up. - Doodleplex 03:39, 1 December 2016 (UTC)

Listing older unused icons[edit]

How do you feel about listing icons that appear in the .dat but havn't yet been added to the game? They would require some checking first to make sure they definitely aren't available ingame yet but when they are available it may be difficult to locate them again since they will be buried deep in the .dat. I know there a few guild related icons as well as all that SAB stuff and those two ogre tool icons from today. J.Tesla (talk) 00:11, 2 January 2017 (UTC)

The main reason why I haven't done this was because I expected icons to previously exist but not be in use, to never come in use; or so rarely that it wouldn't be worth the effort to sift through everything. That said, if someone wants to put that effort in, I would be fine by it, but I don't think I will be that person. -Darqam 00:35, 2 January 2017 (UTC)

Icon access[edit]

Don't quite know how to access the Dat file to look up IDs/icons, but when you get the chance, could you get them for Vinewrithe Tendril (effect), Tough Weed, and Defense Up? Either that or tell me how it's done. I've tried to look online but unfortunately no useful info comes up. Thanks! Sythe 05:17, 2 January 2017 (UTC)

Unfortunately, looking things up in the dat is just a massive folder of images (sorted in file dimensions, i.e 64x64, 128x128, etc...). If I don't have an idea of what I am looking for I won't be able to find it. Usually I can find the image by seeing it in-game for myself, or when someone uploads a screenshot of it for me to find. If you are interested in doing this on your own (not that you need to since it's a rather painful thing to do) you may or may not find what you want here. -Darqam 05:33, 2 January 2017 (UTC)
Alright, I'll look into it myself, thanks for the link! Edit: Okay, so two questions I now have. 1. Because I've indexed everything, is it safe to say that I can close the program and will not have to re-index the file again? 2. How do you determine the ID of the icon/effect (because I can't find it in the API)? Sythe 20:56, 2 January 2017 (UTC)
Yeah, you can close it just fine. Once it has indexed everything it creates an index file which it will read next time you open it. It should take something like 10 seconds to open then. Also, the IDs are figured out by typing "/wiki <shift+click the effect>". The dat does not in any way gives us the info on the IDs (at least not that i know of). You also won't find this kind of thing on the API since, for one I don't believe it records effects, and two it isn't something about the player character. Good luck! -Darqam 21:04, 2 January 2017 (UTC)
edit: By the way, effect icons are almost always in the textures->UI textures->32x32 folder. -Darqam 21:18, 2 January 2017 (UTC)

July 25th patch[edit]

Got in late, dowloading patch, things are hugs, going to take a bit before this is updated along with the rest of the API info. If you really need an icon pull it off the api on [mymeanderingmind.com/GW2W_Easy_Mode/view_new_entries.php my website], or wait it out a bit. Should be up between 30min-1h. -Darqam 17:48, 25 July 2017 (UTC)

Also, someone buy me an SSD so I can do this like 20 times faster, kthx. -Darqam 17:54, 25 July 2017 (UTC)
1635230.png might be a chinese client version of Reaper of Grenth. Tyndel (talk) 15:20, 28 July 2017 (UTC)

Request for icon?[edit]

Don't know how this works or if it is possible to request an icon, but the Luck of Kings icon is missing as far as I know. Here's what it looks like in game. Don't know what you're able to do with that. User Judas Sig.pngudas 15:36, 31 July 2017 (UTC)

Good catch, I've uploaded it. It is an old icon however (arrived in the date around Silverwaste release) so it's probably a re-used icon. If someone finds what it is now a duplicate of, feel free to delete it and link it, however until then it will be it's own image. Thanks for the catch Judas. -Darqam 15:57, 31 July 2017 (UTC)
Thanks for that icon. I now have another request, namely that of Lava Hammer (also in the new map). Fire Grab is a very similar icon (see Lava Hammer talk page), but definitely not the exact same. User Judas Sig.pngudas 09:46, 1 August 2017 (UTC)
Hum, I'm having issues finding that one, I'll keep looking but it might not be as immediate as last time. -Darqam 14:42, 1 August 2017 (UTC)
Ley-Line Magic is also missing. I feel like it might be a duplicate, but I couldn't find it when I went hunting through the categories last night. --Idris (talk) 14:47, 1 August 2017 (UTC)
That icon is actually a skill icon, and quite an obscure one - File:Vengeful Snowballs.png. It's the special class skill available to revenants in the Snowball Mayhem. —Ventriloquist 15:00, 1 August 2017 (UTC)
Wow, nice find. --Idris (talk) 15:25, 1 August 2017 (UTC)

Next week[edit]

Just fyi Darqam, I've got all of the elite skill/trait icons for next week prepared, masked and (mostly) named. Names being the hard bit. I'm planning on uploading them near when the beta opens. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 19:27, 6 August 2017 (UTC)

Ok, I'll keep an eye out and avoid them if possible, but if they're all jumbled up... we'll see. -Darqam 20:16, 6 August 2017 (UTC)
[[User:AWB Alex/icon uploads]]. Dunno where to link to it from, here will do perhaps. Hopefully we can get the names filled out not this weekend but event after this. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 22:21, 8 August 2017 (UTC)

Spoilers[edit]

Why not stick them under the {{spoiler}} tag? 🤔🤔 —Ventriloquist 14:32, 9 August 2017 (UTC)

Opted for another page made just for it given the size of it. Didn't think of spoiler tag, might do that on the other page. -Darqam 15:05, 9 August 2017 (UTC)

moving things around for POF[edit]

Heads up to anyone using this page within the next little while, I'll be moving things around a bunch both for archiving, and avoiding have it split over 2 pages. -Darqam 16:21, 23 September 2017 (UTC)

Thanks for your work, Darq-human. —Ventriloquist 16:28, 23 September 2017 (UTC)
Ok big update done. Basically anything pre-PoF moved to archive; the PoF page is now completely moved to the main page. Additional spoiler warnings put into place. Page will still be a bit slow to load just do to the massive amount of images still here. -Darqam 17:08, 23 September 2017 (UTC)

Early Art Icons[edit]

It'll be easier once more icons go, but I'm pretty sure you've got early versions of the three icons of royal minis and what appears to be Elonian armor. - Doodleplex 02:42, 26 September 2017 (UTC)

Those freaking Queen icons will be the death of me. Where are you, Mini Queen Nahlah? WHERE IS YOUR SISTER? —Ventriloquist 11:16, 26 September 2017 (UTC)
I've spent a while looking in the dat and couldn't find them (I think they are slightly older 64x64 instead of 128s) but I dug them up in the API and will add them in a few minutes.
As for earlier version, I'd like to at least wait a week or two to make sure they aren't actually something else, and then if they really end up being useless icons, we can toss them. I don't tend to check the icons before I upload them, the process is annoying enough as is without spot checking everything I upload. -Darqam 13:46, 26 September 2017 (UTC)
Those sisters totally went and had a makeover, only thing I can think of lol. Anyway, Darq if you're up for deleting things early variants of things: there's all of those early art icons for the legendary/precursor armor on your archive page and I'm pretty sure "File:1653665.png" is an early version of Mini Lone Wolf Braham. Also, do you still need "User:Darqam/Totally-not-from-the-Dat Icons/Archive" and "User:Darqam/Totally-not-from-the-Dat Icons"? - Doodleplex 22:03, 27 September 2017 (UTC)
Yeah I really should purge through the archive at some point, but if you feel like doing that go right ahead. As for those redirect, I don't need them, most people should be used to the new (actually initial) name of the page again. -Darqam 22:52, 27 September 2017 (UTC)
1653665 is an unused gem store item Mini Wolfblood Braham that does use the same model as Mini Lone Wolf Braham. (search the catalog for 7912776CD279). MadMaxx (talk) 23:31, 27 September 2017 (UTC)
I'm just going to go with the ones I mentioned Darqam, I'll leave the rest up to you. - Doodleplex 23:38, 27 September 2017 (UTC)

Missing icon[edit]

Not sure if you will be able to find it, but the icon for Shaman Field Orders appears to be missing. It looks like the symbol for shaman insignia/inscription inside of a scroll icon similar to Titan Field Orders, Wraith Field Orders, or Mage Field Orders. If ArenaNet put it next to the other 3 like they are to each other in the .dat file, then it should be in the range of 1770160-70. Thanks! Sythe 06:03, 11 November 2017 (UTC)

I've found it. It's a reused icon from LWS3 which is why it wasn't with the newer icons. J.Tesla (talk) 15:13, 11 November 2017 (UTC)
Thanks tesla, was not looking forward to digging through that. -Darqam 15:58, 11 November 2017 (UTC)

Delays[edit]

If you're stalking this page waiting for the new patch stuff bad news, I won't be able to upload until much later tonight or just straight up tomorrow. Apologies for the inconvenience. -Darqam 01:35, 10 January 2018 (UTC)

I ran the full gw2browser without patching my game (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻. -Darqam 05:22, 10 January 2018 (UTC)

So yeah, this again. Did not expect a patch at all today and it's only running now. Gonna be a while before things popup here, sowy. -Darqam 00:42, 11 April 2018 (UTC)

The effort you go to make sure high-quality new icons are uploaded swiftly is appreciated! Take all the time you need. :) --Idris (talk) 00:47, 11 April 2018 (UTC)
They are here me thinks. Only 2 game crashes in the process, weeeeee. -Darqam 03:13, 11 April 2018 (UTC)
I didn't actually didn't catch that comment. Thanks for saying it, I appreciate it. I do owe quite a lot to Krahl Steelforge who actually created the tool. I just use it and pretend I'm a smart person, lol. -Darqam 05:36, 11 April 2018 (UTC)

Script to cleanup moved files[edit]

Basically I've placed a script at User:Chieftain Alex/API javascripts#Miscellaneous - Remove dead files from galleries which, if you run it whilst previewing edits to a section or the whole page, it'll delete moved files out of the galleries. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 15:10, 27 October 2018 (UTC)

Hadn't seen this until now. Awesome, that would save quite a bit of time, thanks ! -Darqam 10:00, 30 October 2018 (UTC)

Few requests[edit]

Hear you're the local icon dealer around here. Got some business for you:

  • The icons for Mistward armor do not match those ingame, guess the current ones are outdated.
  • This unobtainable krait spear (chat code ) has a nice icon I would like to use, for documentation purposes.
  • This historical harpoon gun (chat code ) has another nice icon I would like to use too.

No idea how to actually get these out by myself. If there's any guide you could share, I'd try to get them myself.--Lon-ami (talk) 18:13, 27 November 2018 (UTC)

Two more:
Also, I found some of the unused icons in this page belong to unimplemented skins, which I plan to document soon. Should I move them when I create those pages?--Lon-ami (talk) 19:09, 1 December 2018 (UTC)
I'm impressed. Good work. SarielV 20 x 20px 23:43, 1 December 2018 (UTC)
Found the krait and godskull icons. Beaded icons still need swapping.--Lon-ami (talk) 23:46, 5 December 2018 (UTC)

Requests[edit]

Heya, I saw there is two icons that looks like Elite specializations in the x64 size section, is there more of them like 7 more? ^^ Awesome Job. Inquest Overseer Ezrielia (talk) 14:44, 18 April 2020 (UTC)

If you're talking about 1948131 and 2248208 then no there are not more and they are not used as far as we can tell. First one was added March 6th 2018 with A Bug in the System and the send was added 28 January 2020 with Shadow in the Ice‎‎. It's important to note that there are lots of images that are not used in the game files including alternate skill icons (for say the Chinese client), extra icons (that they made just in case or made extras for), duplicates of the same icon (take 2278450 - 2278452 or 2270861, 2270871, and 2270881 for recent examples), GW1 icons, or internal icons (like 1770585 or 1701100). And while yes, there are some files that might be the ones used in the future (like 563480 for SAB) a lot of these images that are not used are pretty meaningless and you shouldn't look to deeply into them. Dak393 (talk) 09:56, 19 April 2020 (UTC)

Home Instance Nodes[edit]

Hya. I was looking over all the nodes we have for home instances and some nodes doesnt have 32x32 icons at all. So far I've found some. You can see the list here User:DiegoDeLaHouska/sandbox1. The Dragon Pinata has almost the same just red version. This one I will need to check more times because it might be changing daily. Thank you for your time. --DiegoDeLaHouska (talk) 01:23, 29 November 2020 (UTC)

Found some myself . The Pinata .. well I have diferent visual options then others .That is why it is red for me. So no need for assistance anymore <3 --DiegoDeLaHouska (talk) 02:56, 30 November 2020 (UTC)

Marked icon for deletion[edit]

Hello, I marked File:2594638.png for deletion due to duplication. I'd suggest moving it to your personal space here if you want to keep it. Venom20 User Venom20-icon-0602-sm-black.png 03:47, 1 March 2022 (UTC)

Also File:2594640.png Venom20 User Venom20-icon-0602-sm-black.png 03:57, 1 March 2022 (UTC)
Just mark them, no need to write here. They will actually replace the current icons since those are just screenshots from the livestreams (lower resolution). —Kvothe (talk) 04:05, 1 March 2022 (UTC)
Was a courtesy in case they wanted to move the files elsewhere. Thank you though, for the concern. Venom20 User Venom20-icon-0602-sm-black.png 14:49, 1 March 2022 (UTC)

Request for Missing Icon[edit]

We are missing overhead icon/map icon for the new Ancient Armorsmith. Looks like File:Trading Post Gift.png but with pink ribbon. Dont know what the resolution for those are. Its possible that there is only one of them used for both overhead and map. Good luck with searching and Thank you --DiegoDeLaHouska (talk) 11:36, 24 August 2022 (UTC)
