Commas

Can we get commas for the experience rewards? It's displayed that way in the game, and it's easier to read. Manifold User Manifold Neptune.jpg 21:36, 30 September 2012 (UTC)

Done. MediaWiki has a built-in parser function formatnum: that does this automatically. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 23:04, 30 September 2012 (UTC)

Reward a bit off for lvl 63 event

The Sparkfly Fen event Prevent the Risen from opening the prison seal has slightly different rewards for at least gold. Exp = 7280, karma = 302, coin = 149. So only the karma one is correct. Hope this helps. -- This unsigned comment was added by 08Ray on 20:55, 3 October 2012.

It does, thanks. I was in the middle of trying to do a lv63 event to confirm this myself. The weird part is that it implies the table at the bottom of Experience is wrong (7280/0.07 = 104000); does anybody have a level 63 character and can confirm how much XP is needed to level-up? (Mouse-over the experience bar at the bottom of the screen; it's the second number.) -- Dagger 06:03, 4 October 2012 (UTC)
And a level 64 character. Level 64 events give experience as if the requirement for lv64 is 109,000 rather than 108,600. Interesting that both of these two values are multiples of 1000, when these two levels are the only two above 100,000 in the table on Experience that aren't multiples of 1000. -- Dagger 13:55, 4 October 2012 (UTC)

Level 16 event

From an old screenshot I had (2 Sep), I got 84 Karma at silver contribution level. The tables calculates it as 85 Karma instead. Might deserve some verification. -- ab.er.rant User Ab.er.rant Sig.png 14:39, 5 October 2012 (UTC)

I've seen that a lot while replacing the template: silver and bronze karma/coin numbers calculated by this template are often 1 greater than what had been entered into the old template. It's probably due to how this template rounds everything with a ceil() function, but Dagger specifically changed the rounding to use that, I assume because a plain round() was producing some results that were 1 less than the actual values. I'll try to make a compilation of all the errors I see as I make the replacements today (should've done that from the beginning). —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 14:54, 5 October 2012 (UTC)
Yeah, you're right. I changed it to ceil() to match the values in User:Thervold/Event Rewards, but it looks like the game actually does straight rounding. The confusion however is a result of it using floating point: e.g. the bronze level 56 and 65 rewards are supposed to be 0.75*270 = 202.5 Karma and 0.75*310 = 232.5 Karma, yet the game awards 202 Karma and 233 Karma, rounding the first value down and the second value up. (Due to the fun of floating point, the first value is calculated to be ~202.4999999999999, which rounds down to 202.) For extra levels of fun, the calculations done by the Wiki (or rather PHP) sometimes have the same problem, but not on the same numbers the game has it on.
So in summary there's no way to calculate the silver/bronze levels correctly in all cases, and the template needs to use look-up tables for all tiers. I've been hesitant to change it yet because it makes verification harder (if someone changes a gold-level reward the other two levels need recalculating, but that could undo someone's verification of a silver/bronze reward)... but maybe that was silly of me. I'll go change it now.
(I wonder how many values are actually wrong. Maybe it would be nicer to calculate everything, and then override just the values where the wiki and the game disagree. The problem there is that floating point behaviour could change in new versions of PHP, which would be a tad irritating.) -- Dagger 21:59, 6 October 2012 (UTC)
Oh, and 0.75 * 17780 = 13336. Go figure that one out. Maybe it's actually 75.005% of the gold reward, just to screw with us. I've changed the template to use look-up tables; I recalculated all the values using a round rather than ceil(), so hopefully it'll be less wrong overall now. -- Dagger 23:56, 6 October 2012 (UTC)
(4.5*56+18)*0.75=202.5 -> 202 Karma...... (4.5*65+18)*0.75=232.875 -> 233 Karma..... Thats the point. --79.194.208.19 22:02, 16 January 2013 (UTC)

Template:Event rewards/All levels. The subtraction thing I did was the low-level-limit: if an event is more than 30 levels below your character's level, then your rewards are scaled up to (character level - 30). You got them backwards on "Kill the chaos creature" - it's a level 15 event, so you got 54 - 30 = level 24 rewards, which matches the template. The only other data you have is for gold at level 23 (53 - 30), which is also correct. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 17:25, 11 October 2012 (UTC)
Also, we haven't really been keeping track of confirmed reward tiers. The template has our current set of values and we fix them when we notice they're wrong. Maybe we should though -- how about a page with "gold, silver, bronze" in a table down to level 80, and removing the gold/silver/bronze word when the tier is verified? -- Dagger 19:23, 11 October 2012 (UTC)

WvW events

WvW events are all level 80, but give different rewards. I could start going through my 2000+ screenshots for examples, but maybe someone has figured it out already. I assume it's always the same reward for the same event, but perhaps not. Dungeon events, which I'm not sure we have any pages for yet, don't give any reward. (snip -- I've moved the separate conversation that was here into the "Other rewards" section above and renamed this one to "WvW events". Hopefully this isn't against talk page etiquette. -- Dagger 19:21, 11 October 2012 (UTC))

I'm sorry if I wasn't clear, but I meant this section as more for figuring out WvW event rewards, and pointing out that dungeon events don't have rewards. From the data above it seems there's the following "tiers", with my interpretation:

This leaves defending a tower, defending a capture point, assaulting a keep, and defending a keep unknown (defending a caravan was removed due to abuse). This is also assuming that defending/assaulting things gives the same reward in Eternal Battleground as the Borderlands. Manifold User Manifold Neptune.jpg 19:11, 11 October 2012 (UTC)

Level 55 Bronze Reward

Is just a bit off. XP and money reward are exact, but template calls 200 karma, when the actual karma reward for bronze success of a lvl 55 event is 199. --MushaUser Musha Sigc.png 23:51, 8 October 2012 (UTC)

Template not recognizing the level from the infobox

As I'm adding this template to new event pages, including a completed event infobox, I know that the rewards template is supposed to be able to call the information put into the level parameter. But it's not. I'm having to manually tell the template the level eg: {{event rewards|55}}. The coding used to call info from another template is a bit beyond my ability or else I'd try to figure it out. --MushaUser Musha Sigc.png 07:19, 9 October 2012 (UTC)

It takes a while due to caching issues, or something. Clicking the clock (such a weird place to put it) should fix it on your end until it fixes itself. Manifold User Manifold Neptune.jpg 07:24, 9 October 2012 (UTC)
That's correct. When you first create the page, there is no pre-existing infobox for this template to pull the level from. Simply purging the page (adding ?action=purge at the end of the URL, which is what the UTC clock link does) will re-parse the templates so that this one can pull the level from the infobox that now exists. And that fixes it for everyone, not just "on your end". —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 12:23, 9 October 2012 (UTC)
I added a link to the purge URL to the notice. I think it would be possible to disable caching and try to pull the level again with a second transclusion if the first one yields no result, but it would be at the cost of higher load for pages that genuinely don't have a level in the infobox. -- Dagger 18:03, 9 October 2012 (UTC)
That wouldn't work. When a page is saved with a self-referencing template or DPL query, that template can only "see" the pre-existing version of the page, no matter how you try to nest it. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 18:41, 9 October 2012 (UTC)
Even if you use allowcachedresults=false? I assumed DPL would pull from the current copy of the page at render time if that was set to false. -- Dagger 20:37, 9 October 2012 (UTC)
That still won't make the DPL work on the very first view immediately after saving it - all it does is force the page to be re-parsed every time it gets viewed, pages are still cached they just expire immediately. Even though it would work on the second page view, since that re-parses the template from the first cached version, it would continue to re-parse the full page on every page view, which wouldn't be a very efficient solution. The link you added to the note requires 1 extra click from a user but is much more efficient on the servers, so I think that's good enough. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 21:07, 9 October 2012 (UTC)
Indeed. That's a nice addition. --MushaUser Musha Sigc.png 00:31, 10 October 2012 (UTC)

Failed event value

would it be worth putting in the failed event value?Bernardus 23:53, 19 October 2012 (UTC)

Event#Event_rewards: "The rewards for a failed event are approximately half of the rewards for a successful event."--Relyk 23:55, 19 October 2012 (UTC)
yes, you know that and I know it now. I guess by the same token I could calculate the gold/silver etc rewards with the right formula. Just a thought as to if it would be helpful for the users. -Bernardus 00:54, 20 October 2012 (UTC)
There was some discussion on that, but consensus was it's easy enough to derive. There are events that can't be failed too.--Relyk 01:11, 20 October 2012 (UTC)

Why dpl at all?

This is probably me just being dim witted late at night, but why are we using dpl at all? Couldn't we just set it up in the event infobox to do {{#definevar:{{{level}}}}}? And then you don't have to do any dpl on every page? (variables are less server intensive than dpl right?) --Chieftain Alex 23:47, 18 November 2012 (UTC)

Incorrect experience rewards for level 73

Defend Blubloop against the swarm of Risen quaggans and Help Blubloop reach the shore of Squall Cusps safely both rewarded me with 17,003 experience, instead of the 12,360 the template says. It’s a level 73 event and I was level 80. poke | talk 17:17, 1 January 2013 (UTC)

I'm pretty sure the whole level adjusted rewards were changed a month or so ago. We need to take a fresh look at it. Manifold User Manifold Neptune.jpg 17:26, 1 January 2013 (UTC)
Update - 15 November 2012 - "The amount of loot that drops for downscaled players has been increased. You should now be able to receive level-equivalent loot until you are fighting at a downscaled level that is less than 2/3 of your actual level. You should also receive loot a greater percentage of the time as well as receiving a greater percentage of experience, gold, and karma. For level 80 characters, this means level 55+ areas will be able to drop level 80 gear and give about 75% or so of the other rewards. Previously, these areas would give level 77 gear at best and closer to 60% or so of your rewards. "--Relyk ~ talk > 17:41, 1 January 2013 (UTC)

If you look at the 3 sections above this, you'll see that we are already aware of that. What we need is people (like yourself) who can help us gather the new reward data, then we can update this template. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 19:33, 25 January 2013 (UTC)

So one has to be extra careful in reporting this data... (and I think my report should be ignored, except to try and figure out the diminishing returns :D ) --Alad 04:09, 17 April 2013 (UTC)
