RFA[edit]

Hey Ab.er.ant,
I put up an RFA in my userspace and I want your opinion on it, for the content (my RFA), but also the format I have used.
As noted on that page, the methods for deliberation are up to you (and the other bureaucrats). As this sets a precedent, I figured it would be good for the RFA to be relatively free form.
--Aquadrizzt (talk)(contribs) 01:28, 1 December 2010 (UTC)

Hmm... I didn't even realise I was still a bcat on GW2W. I thought someone would've kicked me off by now :D My presence here is even weaker than my already-weak presence on GWW. I'm really in no position to deliberate on whether GW2W needs another sysop and whether you'd be suitable or not. Despite what I can see in your contribs, I'm just way too clueless about what's been happening on GW2W. -- ab.er.rant User Ab.er.rant Sig.png 05:08, 1 December 2010 (UTC)

Bcrat reconfirmations[edit]

We're doing them, and you are a current bcrat. Join in. - Tanetris 21:04, 2 April 2012 (UTC)

Hey Ab. Just closed out the reconfirmations, and wanted to make sure to explain my thoughts on it personally. I'm seeing you've become much more active in the past two weeks, and I really do hope that trend continues, and I've no doubt that if it does, you'll be winding up back on the admin list in no time, as you acclimate to the GW2W community and they get to know you. I remember some of my earliest interactions on GW1W were with you, and you were always polite and open to other ideas, so perhaps I'm a bit biased to thing that that always shines through in your edits. Long story short, please don't let the negative result of the reconfirmation be a disincentive to being the asset to the wiki that I know you can be. - Tanetris 06:50, 20 April 2012 (UTC)
No worries. I didn't really have any expectation either way from the RfA. I guess I've always been sort of like this from the Gwiki days. I just work with what I have. -- ab.er.rant User Ab.er.rant Sig.png 06:53, 23 April 2012 (UTC)

Loading screens[edit]

Do we not want the name of the area in the loading screens then (based on your uploading a new version of Queensdale's loading screen)? I figured that would be wanted - along with a 100% complete of the waypoints, PoI, and skillpoints for those which have such. Konig/talk 21:19, 1 May 2012 (UTC)

We could do that. I was actually thinking along the lines of just showcasing the picture used in the loading screen, rather than the entire screen. The name of the image already says what loading screen it is and the waypoint/skillpoint stuff will be documented on the page itself anyway. It just looks nicer as a thumb without any text in it (just a personal taste though...). -- ab.er.rant User Ab.er.rant Sig.png 07:22, 2 May 2012 (UTC)
It doesn't matter to me, but I figured as an image itself, showing all the information would be best (though I see no need to document the loading bar). I merely want to know what'll be done so that we don't go reverting/fixing each other. :P Konig/talk 07:26, 2 May 2012 (UTC)

You seem to know what you're doing[edit]

Maybe u could help me out? User:OurDelusions/Sandbox ||-- OurDelusions 15:49, 3 September 2012

Not sure if I'm going to be much help. What do you mean "cut off the quote"? Don't use Template:Quotation and then there won't be any quote. You're using the CSS style class the wiki is using for infoboxes, so there will only ever be 1 icon. You're going to have to figure out the CSS if you want to put two icons there. -- ab.er.rant User Ab.er.rant Sig.png 15:56, 3 September 2012 (UTC)

(completion) mail template[edit]

Hey, I've noticed you are placing completion mail sections on renown heart pages. Maybe an idea to make it an template and style it a bit rather than having it all loose in code.
Thing is I don't know anything about making a template on a wiki (only to use them :p) but maybe you could wrap something up simple for now with; sender, subject, content, sign and reward. – Trolloli "I wasn't born, I spawned" 10:11, 8 September 2012 (UTC)

Well, a template might help, but not sure what sort of styling to put on it. Maybe something like the {{mystory}} template I suppose. You can actually try it out and base it on that template, or maybe take a look on the {{quotation}} template. You can experiment with templates easily if you copy an existing template and put it in a sandbox page in your own userspace. That way, if you're interested in learning the wiki code behind it, you can tweak that copied template without disrupting anything. -- ab.er.rant User Ab.er.rant Sig.png 10:38, 8 September 2012 (UTC)
Okay will have a look at that, thanks :) But first I'll place the completion mails I still have in my ingame mailbox on this wiki then I'll fiddle around a bit :) – Trolloli "I wasn't born, I spawned" 10:41, 8 September 2012 (UTC)
A mail template would make me happy, mostly so the wiki version looks identical to the in-game mails and the way I've seen some completion messages formatted seems strange.--Relyk 10:49, 8 September 2012 (UTC)
Well {{Mail}} can be used for now, simple (maybe messy) but it can be changed on a later date, the variables are good so styling can be changed easier without redoing all the pages (I think) – Trolloli "I wasn't born, I spawned" 14:29, 8 September 2012 (UTC)
Looks good! :D -- ab.er.rant User Ab.er.rant Sig.png 15:02, 8 September 2012 (UTC)
There's also {{story mail}}, not sure if you saw that before or not. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 00:39, 9 September 2012 (UTC)

Member of the Kennel skills[edit]

Hrm. Using parent makes the most sense to me, since they are tied to a specific effect that is placed on the character. However, that doesn't generate any categories, and pages need categories. Adding autocats for parent would really complicate existing profession skills, so I'm thinking we should use both parent and your original activity = renown heart on these. All heart-linked transforms would be categorized together (this one, the snow leopard one, etc.), but I don't have any problem with that. Sound good? —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 19:17, 13 September 2012 (UTC)

Sure. No strong opinion either way though. I just found it odd that it doesn't auto-categorise but I couldn't think of a category (it was pretty late last night so I wasn't thinking clearly either). The "activity" has a category though, but whatever value I tried for it didn't result in any existing category. That template's usage section ought to be beefed up I'd say. -- ab.er.rant User Ab.er.rant Sig.png 01:48, 14 September 2012 (UTC)
I've been wanting to give that one a good overhaul since I started here back in May, but I wanted to wait for SMW before I did that. Guess I might need to just go ahead and do it. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 02:02, 14 September 2012 (UTC)

Big Crafting List DPL[edit]

Heya. Regarding big crafting lists sorted by difficulty in DPL, I managed to roll a test page: User:Nighty/Sandbox however the "Foods" category is a bit of a mess, containing alcoholic drinks and even other categories (User:Nighty/Sandbox1 if you want to see.) I have no idea how to filter out non-food items because DPL makes my head hurt. --Nighty 06:53, 25 September 2012 (UTC)

Thanks! The level column isn't sorting well though, it's sorting by string instead of numbers. That's probably a limitation of the sorting I guess. Maybe a "craftable food" category or something might be better than trying to filter things out. -- ab.er.rant User Ab.er.rant Sig.png 07:32, 25 September 2012 (UTC)
Ah yes, I forgot to mention that sorting problem. I think it's not sorting that column because of the icon. I suspect there's a way to "chop it out" using DPL, but DPL makes my head hurt ;). (Hmm no smiley faces on this wiki?) -- Nighty 07:43, 25 September 2012 (UTC)
Lol, I know it hurts. That's why I've always been avoiding DPL :D (no smiley, but have a cookie Omnomnom) -- ab.er.rant User Ab.er.rant Sig.png 07:50, 25 September 2012 (UTC)
I've almost cracked it. It now searches for pages in these categories: Meals, Snacks, Desserts, Soups, Seasoning, Dye Recipe, and the sorting is magically working. All that remains is to work out how to add Refined Ingredients as they don't seem to have their own category. Perhaps all these categories should be in a category called "Chef" or something? -- Nighty 09:30, 25 September 2012 (UTC)

Bronze & copper[edit]

Hey Aberrant, just a quick heads-up, the currency is actually called “copper” not “bronze”, and the respective template was moved to {{copper}}. The old one will continue to redirect to it, but for future changes it might be a good idea to use the actual name :) poke | talk 09:26, 25 September 2012 (UTC)

Oh... I was under the impression that it was bronze and I kept wondering why it wasn't copper :D Was it changed or was I just being delusional? -- ab.er.rant User Ab.er.rant Sig.png 09:31, 25 September 2012 (UTC)
Yeah, it was changed not too long ago ^^ poke | talk 09:34, 25 September 2012 (UTC)
Are you (or anyone else) going to run a bot to fix it up? -- ab.er.rant User Ab.er.rant Sig.png 09:51, 25 September 2012 (UTC)
No, I don’t really think it’s worth it. The old template redirects and as such the new one is directly transcluded. Unless we need the {{copper}} template, it won’t do any harm to leave it as it is. poke | talk 16:30, 25 September 2012 (UTC)

Unsigned Comment?[edit]

How do you label an unsigned comment when you see one? I've seen a couple and I hadn't figured out how to do it after all these years. --Lustre Of Havoc 18:32, 1 October 2012 (UTC)

See Template:unsigned poke | talk 18:36, 1 October 2012 (UTC)
So I just use the top one and put the IP if they don't have a username? --Lustre Of Havoc 18:41, 1 October 2012 (UTC)
I use Template:unsigned2. Basically you just copy-paste the unsigned user's name and timestamp into it. I use "subst:" so the template doesn't stick around. For example, {{subst:Unsigned2|<timestamp>|IP/user}}. -- ab.er.rant User Ab.er.rant Sig.png 02:08, 2 October 2012 (UTC)
I hope this works... The preceding unsigned comment was added by Lustre (talk • contribs) at 4:52am, October 3, 2012 (UTC).
Yes. Ab uses unsigned2 and corrects befuddled old timers who forget which wiki they're on and use unsigned by mistake [1] ;) — snogratUser Snograt signature.png 09:00, 18 October 2012 (UTC)
Sorry, I couldn't help it :D I get a twitch every time I see an internal IP that I can't use it on. -- ab.er.rant User Ab.er.rant Sig.png 09:02, 18 October 2012 (UTC)

Broken Chef page[edit]

The changes you made today to all the dye pages today unfortunately broke the Dye table in the Chefs page. I reverted the changes and fixed the table. Going forward please be more careful. Thanks, --Gylisan 04:20, 2 December 2012 (UTC)

You should've fixed the chef page then, since the category name is inconsistent and non-standard. I'll take another look later. -- ab.er.rant User Ab.er.rant Sig.png 05:39, 2 December 2012 (UTC)
Thanks for the suggestion, but I tried that and it didn't work. I don't know exactly what the problem was, but undoing it all worked. If you figure it out please let me know so I can spot that and fix it the right way in the future. I'm not attached to any category spelling, I just want the table to work. --Gylisan 05:46, 2 December 2012 (UTC)
I've fixed the chef page so that it will work for now and when the dye category is re-corrected. Your problem was that you retained the uppercase 'R' when adding the plural 's' - page/category names in the wiki are case-sensitive. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 06:31, 2 December 2012 (UTC)
Thanks Ish. And thanks Gylisan, for the heads-up. -- ab.er.rant User Ab.er.rant Sig.png 12:22, 2 December 2012 (UTC)
