Template disabled[edit]

So previously we disabled this template, probably quite rightly so, because all the values were incorrect. Is this just because since most rewards are scaled up/down they're irrelevant, or because we don't think we can identify the pattern? I'm going to be keeping a spreadsheet for a while to see if I can figure out changes anyway.. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 14:33, 26 July 2015 (UTC)

I agree with the removal, since it was horribly incorrect, but it also kind of looks depressing seeing an empty rewards section for all the events. It seems the german wiki has a neat way of showing the rewards via their template. Someone more template-handy (hey Alex) could look up if there's anything in there that we can transfer on here to bring back the rewards. —Ventriloquist 15:35, 26 July 2015 (UTC)
The german template looks to be as out of date as ours is.. the results are different from [[User:Chieftain Alex/Event reward research|my observations]]. Displaying the failure reward is a good idea though (half gold, half xp, no karma). -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 15:48, 26 July 2015 (UTC)
Yeah that's true, like the way the information is presented, though. On the subject of your research, I'm assuming your account has an XP bonus, correct? Won't this mess with the results, seeing as how you will always get more XP than the base? —Ventriloquist
Oho.. 1% XP bonus. Thanks for the pointers. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 16:54, 26 July 2015 (UTC)
Wait, which of the account bonuses actually apply when doing events? The hover text in the GUI seems to indicate only karma gets increased. (and yet even so I haven't found any discrepancies between my karma gains and the amount predicted by the old version of {{event rewards}}) -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 17:42, 26 July 2015 (UTC)
Hm, I thought XP also affected events, but nope. In that case, karma should be the only thing that increases. Do you have karma bonuses as well? Probably going to need a bit more research on this if we want to get it right. —Ventriloquist 17:59, 26 July 2015 (UTC)
When I asked in IRC, the lurkers thought the answer was that all of the account bonuses applied to events. When you use consumables to temporarily increase XP gain, such as Experience Booster, do you get increases from events? because that item doesn't list events as a source either. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 19:02, 26 July 2015 (UTC)
Karma Boosters should definitely work on events, as ANet disabled their effect on consumables that grant karma. I'm confident that the effect of Experience Boosters and the account bonus is the same, meaning it won't work on events. If that is true, it'll be much easier to research the way events grant experience. —Ventriloquist 13:17, 27 July 2015 (UTC)
Do not forget +15% Karma for 24 hrs . Raljeor (talk) 17:49, 27 July 2015 (UTC)
My guild is defective enough to not do boons ... or be online. I think I've worked out the current formulae for XP, karma + coin but I need to do a bit more verification first. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 20:43, 27 July 2015 (UTC)

(Reset indent) Ok so my findings are as follows:

  • Silver tier rewards 85% of the Gold tier reward, and Bronze tier rewards 75% of the Gold tier reward. (as expected)
  • Account bonuses probably don't affect rewards with the exception of karma (suspect)
  • XP awarded depends on the level (or effective level) of the character. The amount by which the XP reward is downscaled depends on the difference between the full level and the scaled level.
  • XP awarded at levels below 20 uses a slightly modified XP curve (compare the german wiki version with our Template:Level experience)
  • Equations:
Tier factors: Gold = 1, Silver = 0.85, Bronze = 0.75
XP = [XP to level above event level] * 0.0735 * tier factor
K = (( 4.46 * [event level] ) + 17) * tier factor
$$ = (( 1.045 * [event level] ) + 4) * tier factor
All values rounded up to next whole integer.

tl;dr version: I could update this template with the values I'm getting. I would however like some sample data (XP, Karma, Coin + relevant bonuses active) for other players doing level 80 events on lvl 80 characters to confirm that I've taken account bonuses into account properly. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 00:47, 28 July 2015 (UTC)

Actually I can do scaled level rewards now. This equation only applies if the character level is > the event level.
Event reward XP for scaled player = Event reward XP for unscaled player * 0.5 * [ 1 + (event level/unscaled character level) ]
Looking into karma + coin now. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 11:01, 28 July 2015 (UTC)
example: A level 80 player does a level 54 event:
* Event reward XP = [Event reward XP that would be received from a level 80 event] * 0.5 * (1 + 54/80)
-Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 11:04, 28 July 2015 (UTC)
Also, this equation applies to any scaled level - I was mislead by an old relyk quote above which seemed to suggest you received much less if you were less than 2/3 of the area level. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 11:21, 28 July 2015 (UTC)
Sure, blame everything on relyk.--Relyk ~ talk < 13:27, 28 July 2015 (UTC)
It was back in 2013, and the quote was from somebody else. I blame that person. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 13:52, 28 July 2015 (UTC)

(Reset indent) @ Ventriloquist: Turns out the numbers in the reward box are the raw numbers generated by the event. Karma account bonuses affect what you receive (e.g. Level 73 event rewards 295 Karma but I can see 298 Karma popup in the bottom right corner - i.e. 101% of the reward.) but these aren't mentioned in the box. As such, we can ignore account bonuses completely. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 14:45, 28 July 2015 (UTC)

That's great news. Will you be doing more research or do you think it's ready for the world? —Ventriloquist 15:03, 28 July 2015 (UTC)
It's ready i think. The calculator will be based on [[User:Chieftain Alex/Templates/Event rewards]] - i'll finish that tomorrow. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 15:45, 28 July 2015 (UTC)
:( seems like it doesn't predict properly beneath level 20. Idk if the equation is different or if the level XP bands got changed. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 16:36, 28 July 2015 (UTC)
You said it used a different XP curve; wouldn't that mean that the equation is different as well? How big of a difference are we talking here? —Ventriloquist 16:42, 28 July 2015 (UTC)
See the final table on Experience. It sounds like they've expanded the "accelerated leveling" from 15 to 20 levels, though, and those values for 1-15 may have been changed, too. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 20:07, 28 July 2015 (UTC)
You're right, the 1st Feature Pack did change the leveling for newbies, alongside other leveling and exp improvements. —Ventriloquist 21:16, 28 July 2015 (UTC)

More research needed[edit]

If anyone wishes to help nail down the event rewards, I've uploaded an editable spreadsheet to google drive. The bits that need filling in are beneath "observed rewards". Please only contribute if your character's level is below or equal to the event level. Thanks. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 12:51, 29 July 2015 (UTC)

And to restate what you've discovered in the above section, we can just take screen caps of the rewards splash screen that pops up? G R E E N E R 17:05, 29 July 2015 (UTC)
Sure can, a screenshot would have everything we need in it. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 17:10, 29 July 2015 (UTC)
Changed my mind - the rounding is a bit weird and I can't get the formula to consistently work so I've switched it for a big lookup table. The preceding unsigned comment was added by Chieftain Alex (talkcontribs) at 20:34, 3 August 2015‎ (UTC).
Looks like some of the Heart of Thorns events reward different amounts of XP. e.g. Kill the golem that is preventing Zildi from hacking the mainframe! rewarded me with 32671 XP (includes +4% account XP bonus), 31414 XP is still way off prediction. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 12:01, 21 January 2016 (UTC)

Level 80 text[edit]

This might be nitpicking, but is it possible to modify the text for level 80 events? It currently reads "These are the expected rewards for a level 80 player. Higher level players receive dynamically adjusted rewards.". It implies a higher level than 80 will receive greater rewards, which isn't possible due to the cap; I know the text is the same on each event page, but would it be possible to add L80 ones as an exception with unique text? —Ventriloquist 16:57, 10 August 2015 (UTC)

Incorrect values for Heart of Maguuma events[edit]

While the karma/gold rewards are correct, the experience values are incorrect. This may be caused by the fact that in a previous patch (Spring 2016 quarterly(?)) ArenaNet decided to up experience gain in Heart of Maguuma zones. The current value for gold-level experience is 26670. Assuming the % differences remain the same, this would mean that silver and bronze would be approximately 19270/17002. If someone could both confirm these numbers and modify a template with an option to specify HoT exp rewards, it would be greatly appreciated. --76.71.50.123 (talkcontribslogsblock log)

Yeah I just noticed it too, and took a picture of what I got today. Seems like stuff is off, since what I got is off from the current table in terms of tiers and exp, but not sure entirely if it's because of account bonuses or stuff was changed or if it's stuff that was changed (in the spring quarterly update possibly). - Doodleplex 23:18, 11 September 2016 (UTC)
I do not believe events in the Heart of Maguuma give different rewards. I tried events in Ember Bay, Verdant Brink, Dry Top, Silverwastes, Cursed Shore and Southsun Cove and they all gave me 26670 exp for gold participation. I have updated the level 80 rewards in the template. If they've changed the event rewards, the whole rest of the table might be out of date, which would be... troublesome. But I don't have any low level characters to test that. —Azurem 23:33, 15 January 2017 (UTC)
