Scholar Merla is a scientist and karma merchant found at Cachistic R&D in the Winterknell Shore who is working on developing a serum that renders the wearer invisible to the Risen. She has skritt assistant named Rakkan, and though she is very happy with the results he gets, she seems less than concerned about his safety.

Dialogue[edit]
- Welcome to our drab little encampment. It may be under-staffed, under-supplied, and elemental-infested, but we make do.
- Can I see the wares you have available?
- We quickly discovered why the undead avoid this site;it's an elemental hot spot. Intriguing, though precarious.
- Be careful.
You have elemental trouble here?
- Rakkan? He's my assistant. I took him in to do odd jobs for me, and I've actually grown quite fond of the little fella.
- The Pact is an exercise in tolerance, isn't it? Besides, Rakkan has proven himself a surprisingly adept assistant.
- Interesting.
You're fond of a skritt? You?
- (if asura)
- He's actually worked out well, being somewhat versed in our technology. Besides, aren't we all in this fight together?
- It seems aberrant, if not repugnant.
You must be desperate, to resort to using a skritt assistant.
I'm more curious about that skritt.
- Thanks. Take care.
- During Destroy the Risen broodmother to free Rakkan
- I love when I'm on the verge of a breakthrough. As soon as my assistant delivers my results, I'll know for sure.
- Can you show me the wares you have available?
- Yes, Rakkan, a resourceful little skritt. My experiments would have been impossible without his forays for samples.
- If my calculations are correct, my new concoction should conceal its wearer from the Risen. It's quite thrilling!
- I don't see why not. Rakkan was giving the potion a test, near the Risen drake nests. I can't wait to hear how he does.
- Uh, maybe I should check on him. Can you point the way?
- On second thought, no thanks.
Can I help?
- Good luck with your work.
What sort of experiments?
- (if not asura)
- The Pact is an exercise in tolerance, isn't it? Besides, Rakkan has proven himself a surprisingly adept assistant.
- I'm sure he'd appreciate some company.
- On my way.
Fair enough. I'll go lend him a hand.
- Interesting.
I thought asura disliked the skritt.
- (if asura)
- He's actually worked out well, being somewhat versed in our technology. Besides, aren't we all in this fight together?
- I'm sure he'd appreciate some company.
- On my way.
Still, he shouldn't be out there unsupervised. I'll check in on him for you.
- It seems aberrant, if not repugnant.
Are you seriously using a skritt as your apprentice?
- Interesting.
Assistant?
- Good luck.
- Bah! Where is that assistant when I need him?
- Show me your wares, would you?
- I sent him to fetch supplies for my latest experiment. He was alone, and skritt aren't at their best when they're alone.
- (if asura)
- Astounding. You've sunk to using a skritt to assist your work?
- I'd be happy to help. Just point the way. (Same as "Still, he shouldn't be out there unsupervised. I'll..." above)
- Hope he makes it back.
Where did your assistant go?
- Can't help now. Busy.
- During Rid the Pact camp of tar elementals
- We now know why the Risen avoid this site: it's an elemental dream spot. Live and learn, I guess.
- Good luck.
