Site Maintenance[edit]

Assuming fixing-up is being done on this wiki, too, can the site notice say "Guild Wars 2 Wiki" instead of "Guild Wars Wiki"? Calor Talk 02:37, 21 March 2008 (UTC)

It did say that, but Poke copied and pasted the GWW notice to change the times and a little formatting and didn't add the 2. --User Pling sig.png pling | ggggg 14:37, 21 March 2008 (UTC)
Meh @ Poke. Calor Talk 15:26, 21 March 2008 (UTC)

Riiight ;)[edit]

hahaha ok, so honestly, is there REALLY going to be site maintenance? My bet is on "no" xD --AmannelleUser Amannelle Me.jpg 19:40, 31 March 2010 (UTC)

well, it IS a funny date XD--Sierra Echo94.226.51.192 19:53, 31 March 2010 (UTC)
My bets are on yes, there will be an update - the wikis have had problems, for example on Monday they were down for over three hours. By the way, if you want to discuss the maintenance, I think User talk:Emily Diehl#Upcoming maintenance this Thursday (or the GWW equivalent) would be better - discussion about MediaWiki pages should generally be kept about technical stuff and what should be on there, not chatter. -- pling User Pling sig.png 20:32, 31 March 2010 (UTC)
Chill bro, it wasn't "chatter", I was honestly asking if this date was serious, or if one of y'all posted it just to prank us all. xD but if you insist, I'll take your word on it. :) --AmannelleUser Amannelle Me.jpg 20:45, 31 March 2010 (UTC)

Maintenance notice[edit]

Per this it can probably be removed. --Chieftain Alex 17:12, 7 November 2012 (UTC)

use it. :p -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 16:45, 21 June 2013 (UTC)

He should have said "in less than 15 minutes" :P MY bad for not communicating it, it'll be gone very shortly if things are going ok --Stephane Lo Presti talk 16:47, 21 June 2013 (UTC)
Try not to use edit summaries that only make sense when you see them in RC. pling User Pling sig.png 16:49, 21 June 2013 (UTC)
If I had my druthers, everything would be in US Central time. Felix Omni Signature.png 16:51, 21 June 2013 (UTC)

"how to help"[edit]

seriously felix, do you have to revert it every time I delete the help message? We've had it up for 2 years now. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 22:27, 14 April 2015 (UTC)

welp seems I've only tried to delete the h-t-h message once, last time it was the random as hell april fools aftermath notice. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 22:53, 14 April 2015 (UTC)

Wording for HoT release?[edit]

Despite removing the notice only yesterday, I suspect we'll want a new notice when HoT comes out in 37 hours time. I'm terrible at wording so if someone feels like rewording this that'd be grand.

Heart of Thorns content is now live! Some articles based on beta content may need to be updated. Feel free to contribute by editing the articles directly or by leaving feedback on a discussion page. See how you can help

-Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 17:58, 21 October 2015 (UTC)

o.o After having a sitenotice that I didn't dismiss for a long time, an empty sitenotice looks so weird. There's a [dismiss] button that pushes the pagename slightly down, and pushes in the underline on the right side. Edit: Wording looks fine to me. --BryghtShadow (talk) 09:02, 22 October 2015 (UTC)
I’d remove the “content” after “Heart of Thorns”. poke | talk 06:41, 23 October 2015 (UTC)

Jade Shards[edit]

Based on the recent patch notes, I believe the bug notice can come down now for the Jade Shards. - Doodleplex 06:43, 14 February 2017 (UTC)

Update for the Path of Fire Preview Weekend?[edit]

Hi everyone,

I think there should be a SiteNotice inviting players to edit or contribute content to the wiki. FelixOmni agrees and proposed the following:

We welcome all players to contribute information to the wiki during the demo period! If you're not comfortable editing articles directly, please use the 'Leave article feedback' button to record your info and a more experienced editor will add it to the article."

Thoughts? --Stephane Lo Presti talk 17:23, 11 August 2017 (UTC)

Maintenance[edit]

Just to besure; the maintenance has occured already, right? The time the note says has passed but it's still up also so i'm not sure if it means to mean 10:00 PDT or not instead? Nightsky (talk) 14:52, 12 August 2021 (UTC)

Template:Datetime[edit]

Just a note that, given the way the script functions, the separate counting of the widget counter for sitenotice and article wikitext that leads to duplicate ids will cause the sitenotice to adopt the first three time values of the templates use in article content; also leaving the article uses without tooltip. This effect occurs on all pages listed in Special:WhatLinksHere/Template:Datetime. And i'd advise including a timezone code in the first format string used in the sitenotice in favour of the "(local time)"-text after. Nightsky (talk) 11:38, 28 February 2022 (UTC)

It also seems that the script isn't executing in the sitenotice when not logged in; which seems weird given that it does when logged in, for me at least. Could anyone confirm this isn't only happening for me or alternatively that it is only happening for me? Nightsky (talk) 14:09, 28 February 2022 (UTC)
It's again not executing when not logged in. Which leaves things inacurate, or at the very least confusing, since there's no time zone code included in the format string so timezone/offset information is missing for the date and time. Also, may want to update the sitenotice id for the maintenance edit. Nightsky (talk) 00:59, 16 March 2022 (UTC)
It seems to be working for me when not logged in on Firefox. --BuffsEverywhere (talk) 04:20, 16 March 2022 (UTC)
That's weird then because i also use Firefox. Wonder what else it could be. Is it still working even after reloading pages using any of the methods detailed at the top of js content model pages (e.g. Ctrl+F5) too?
After edit conflict bonus paragraph: Why the nvm? So is it not working for you too, or what does it mean? (Not the abbreviation. (That should be either nevermind or never mind.)) Also, you're likely aware that things aren't usually removed from talkpages. Nightsky (talk) 05:15, 16 March 2022 (UTC)
It worked on the MediaWiki:Sitenotice page but not on any other pages. --BuffsEverywhere (talk) 06:28, 16 March 2022 (UTC)
It does not work under certain circumstances, nothing to discuss there in my opinion (if you in fact want to: for me it is bugged in firefox/chrome logged in and icognito mode). The question is how to solve this in order to avoid unclear situations:
  • Can we add a parameter (used in the sitenotice widget call) that modifies the internally used id such that there is no id overlap?
  • Or should we duplicate this widget for sitenotice only?
--Tolkyria (talk) 13:38, 16 March 2022 (UTC)
I'll look into adding a separate parameter. That's a good idea. Though i'm not sure how intuitive it will be to use. But will see. Nightsky (talk) 17:46, 16 March 2022 (UTC)
I've now added "namespace" functionallity to the widget, with the template providing "only" a boolean sitenotice parameter as there are only two known cases for the time being; but it should provide for a simple way for expansion if ever necessarry. If possible please set the sitenotice parameter for the sitenotice template uses accordingly. Nightsky (talk) 18:33, 16 March 2022 (UTC)
@Kvothe & @Chieftain Alex. I'm not sure if it would make the errors go away (Which errors exactly were that by the way?) but in short; please use the new-ish |sitenotice=y parameter with the {{datetime}} when using said tempate in the sitenotice. See above and the parameter description on the template page for more details. Additionally, please considder using human readable date/time formats in the source and a timezone in the formats. Nightsky (talk) 18:38, 25 April 2022 (UTC)
Didn't screenshot it (my bad), think it said something along the lines of unsupported date format (within applyFormat). Visually it appeared OK, until I opened the console, where each occurrence was throwing a separate JS error and interrupting my map prototyping (and probably every other page using a widget). -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 18:49, 25 April 2022 (UTC)
Hm.. i see. Don't know what would cause it to throw that. Previewing the previous sitenotice text normaly (by itself in the sandbox as well as on various map widget pages) seems fine on my end, so it might be caused by the use inside of the sitenotice specifically. Not exactly possible for me to test though. Could you maybe add one again (e.g. inside of a display: none; span) and have (and or have me have) a look at what the error is? Nightsky (talk) 19:40, 25 April 2022 (UTC)
Loads of weird things break in the sitenotice tbh. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 19:46, 25 April 2022 (UTC)

(Reset indent) Nightsky, I added a hidden div with my last edit. —Kvothe (talk) 10:43, 14 June 2022 (UTC)

Thank you! I'm afraid to report that i can't reproduce the error. That is to say, i can't produce any error when the widget code is executing. I can however produce one whithout it executing, i.e. when logged out. That however is complaining about mw.user.isAnon not being a function, which seems to me like it would be more related to this issue than to the datetime widget however; so i'm still unsure as to what the error is. Alex, could you possibly see if you can reproduce it? Nightsky (talk) 16:59, 14 June 2022 (UTC)
I'll keep an eye out, not seeing any bugs right now due to the sitenotice.
For the mw.isAnon function, I see that on the "history" tab and any special:log page on the EN wiki when browsing anonymously. It's been around for YEARS (well at least since January, but pretty sure its been around a lot longer). I think it's something baked into one of our extensions that doesn't work properly.
Weirdly, I see the mw.isAnon function bug when logged in on any page on the ES wiki. Could be some of our javascripts are common, but I can't see anything in the various js pages. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 17:20, 14 June 2022 (UTC)
Sounds good.
I've actually hadn't accounted for that the direction of the discussion i linked changes from something i presume to still be the case to something i can't reproduce. So, me linking there was only partially correct, as the links are the correct ones i once included to not have to search for them again so should i ever need to find them again, but the problem that i presume to still be the case would be that the wikis skins are to old to load mediawiki and jquery by default propperly. (At least i assume that mediawiki should also be loaded and available by default as per this being mentioned for jquery and them being in the same place at mw:ResourceLoader/Core modules, which is linked from one of the links included in the section i previously linked to, so i'm assuming it's true for both, but can't quite tell for sure. (If it were the case then the only thing i could think of to test if it would fix scripts sometimes not working (assuming they assume these two things to always be available, then failing if they are not) would be to create a new empty wiki and then replace the skins of this one with the new skins and see if things are executing propperly, provided that that is doable and easily testable.)) Nightsky (talk) 19:22, 14 June 2022 (UTC)

API availabillity[edit]

It's still returning 503's, if with a different text (Still none including for how long.) now; but isn't exactly available again, so the sitenotice text should maybe be changed to not imply that, shouldnt it? Nightsky (talk) 14:10, 2 March 2022 (UTC)

It was enabled for a few hours yesterday when I updated the notice; you are however correct that it's been disabled again. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 18:04, 2 March 2022 (UTC)
Seems it's available again again. Nightsky (talk) 23:14, 2 March 2022 (UTC)

Job Queue[edit]

The job queue's not visible on Special:Statistics (anymore) (unless added there explicitly, by e.g. a user script). Y'all may want to considder changing the link to point to the API directly instead. Nightsky (talk) 16:10, 13 September 2022 (UTC)

Misleading "relative" timestamp[edit]

The sitenotice uses Tuesday, August 22nd at {{UTC time|16:00}} instead of {{Datetime|l, F j, Y "at" H:i "UTC"P|2023-08-22 09:00 America/Los_Angeles}}. This is confusing for any people living in a country where release date is Wednesday. For example, in UTC+12:

"Tuesday, August 22nd at 04:00 UTC+12" (sitenotice)
"Wednesday, August 23, 2023 at 04:00 UTC+12:00" (SotO article).

Can we please have this corrected? --BryghtShadow (talk) 11:04, 21 August 2023 (UTC)

Updated. Hopefully this will help, though given the annoyance of timezones, I'm sure others will be still suffering. Greener (talk) 15:23, 21 August 2023 (UTC)
