Dialogue[edit]

We've heard no news of Cantha in a long time. Those of Canthan descent in Divinity's Reach have been here for generations, and our numbers are few. I hope these lessons help keep our culture alive.
(If in the Durmand Priory)
Talk more option tango.png As a member of the Priory, I'd love to her about the history of Cantha.
Cantha is the land to the south and once held the oldest known human nation. It is a nation closed to us, but it has faced great challenges—the Jade Wind, the Afflicted, and the Ministry of Purity.
Talk more option tango.png Tell me of this Jade Wind.
In 872 AE, the Emperor Angsiyan was slain by his bodyguard, Shiro Tagachi. The release of the mystic energy transformed part of the kingdom into Jade.

Talk more option tango.png Tell me of the Afflicted.
In 1072 AE, Shiro, assassin of the emperor, lingered as a vengeful spirit in that land, eventually using his power to wrap living things and create the mindless Afflicted, which terrorized the land.

Talk more option tango.png Tell me of the Ministry of Purity.
In 1077 AE, The Ministry of Purity was formed to combat the Afflicted.
Talk more option tango.png Did they succeed?
Yes, but they turned their zealous attention to all things they thought were not of Cantha. That belief has contributed to the great empire retreating and closing its ports to others.
Talk back option tango.png I have another question.
Talk end option tango.png Thanks for the information.
Talk end option tango.png Interesting, but I've got to run now.
Talk more option tango.png What happened?
We don't know. Around 200 years ago, trade simply stopped. The tengu settled in Kryta some time later. We may never know the whole story, but we must hold on dearly to the history we have.
Talk end option tango.png Good luck.
Talk end option tango.png Sounds like a noble task.

Notes[edit]

Although the Canthan Scholar says trade ceased around 200 years ago (roughly 1125 AE), Sea of Sorrows depicts Cobiah Marriner trading with and exploring Kaineng City around 1219 AE, shortly before Zhaitan's rise.
