a page named "Home"[edit]

I understand we may have a page named "Home" but shouldn't instance be in parentheses? Taros 20:34, 26 May 2010 (UTC)

I just used the terminology stated by A-net. Home is a rather encompassing term, so I would rather leave instance there until an official source says otherwise.--Corsair@Yarrr 21:01, 26 May 2010 (UTC)
I said I understood having the page names Home instance, my question was shouldn't instance be in parentheses so it looks like Home (instance) like how some other pages had them to be more specific about articles that should have the same names. Taros 21:09, 26 May 2010 (UTC)
I guess we will just have to wait and see if and when we get something else that could be conceivably named "home"--Corsair@Yarrr 21:11, 26 May 2010 (UTC)
I hope this means what I think it does, an actual "house" that you can possibly modify/decorate based on achievements, etc. Arshay Duskbrow 21:26, 26 May 2010 (UTC)
Parentheses are generally only used to disambiguate two terms that have the same name. pling User Pling sig.png 21:43, 26 May 2010 (UTC)
I wondered that too, Arshay, since they really seemed to emphasize furniture in a lot of the artwork (though it could just be for NPC's homes). I know the idea of having an actually "house" can be a bit dull in some games, but I think, if implemented right, GW2 could have a lovely instanced "house" for people to return to. In the new article by massively they talk about the home as actually being physical housing or some sort of "home environment". I quote: "That's right, you start the game with your very own "home instance" in your racial capital. Your home will change and evolve as you do, becoming truly your own and different from all the other houses out there. Let's take a quick "yay housing!" moment" YAY HOUSING! ^_^ --AmannelleUser Amannelle Me.jpg 01:46, 27 May 2010 (UTC)

I know what you mean. :O It was REALLY confusing right here:

"Question: Helping a friend is not only a waste of time, but incidentally throws off something? ? ?

Answer: Absolutely. Who wants to do anything other than players to help with their personal history, can do so. You can earn that way even more advanced equipment."

Huh?? :P --AmannelleUser Amannelle Me.jpg 01:33, 28 May 2010 (UTC)

"Question: So, helping a friend isn't just a waste of time but it also gives rewards?"
That is how I would perceive it :-) --User Phnzdvn sig.pnghnzdvn 01:37, 28 May 2010 (UTC)
Here is a version translated by a member of GW2G, its much less headache worthy, checking the rest of the thread out is also...prudent.--Corsair@Yarrr 01:44, 28 May 2010 (UTC)
Thank you thank you! Lol I was so deeply confused by that. xD --AmannelleUser Amannelle Me.jpg 02:01, 28 May 2010 (UTC)
Ooh, yeah. That worked. That helped. Nice to have access to it. Could we link to that on the page itself...? Zolann The IrreverentUser Zolann The Irreverent Mysterious Summoning Stone.png 20:43, 28 May 2010 (UTC)
Does the wiki have a policy on choosing which of two similar sources would be better? Should we list both?--Corsair@Yarrr 21:01, 28 May 2010 (UTC)

Does This Mean?[edit]

We are going to have to sleep, eat and crap like that?--♥Icyyy♥ 04:02, 31 May 2010 (UTC)

Of course not. That's a rather enormous leap of logic... Arshay Duskbrow 04:14, 31 May 2010 (UTC)
haha well i got suspecious because of the drake egg you can eat it(or so it claims) and if we sleep id be bored lol!like the sims 3 i have to have someone up!--♥Icyyy♥ 04:17, 31 May 2010 (UTC)
Lol I wish we could do SOME household activities, but I think that may be going to an extreme. However, I do like the idea of eating foods; it makes a home so much more homey when you can serve your guests food. xD --AmannelleUser Amannelle Me.jpg 16:01, 31 May 2010 (UTC)
lol if u have to eat and u dont then you randomly die in a battle that would be hilarious to see someone just drop.--♥Icyyy♥ 22:09, 31 May 2010 (UTC)

Woo![edit]

I LOVE this idea, as soon as i started reading it, flashbacks from a few years ago playing The Elder Scrolls: Morrowind started appearing. I killed some merchant, JUST to get my own house, then filled it with all of my swords, crossbows, and other random pieces of things i had gotten. This would be even better if there were, oh say, closets, that i could put stuff in, or just throw my stuff on the ground and it stay there while i shadow step around killing random enemies. I love the idea of merchants and other NPCs too, sort of a personal guild hall. I hope there is a button that sends you there instantly (like the guild hall button), as the similar Command Post in nightfall was very underused. All in all, i simply adore anet for this, and believe that it is the single best idea they have made. . . well ever. Vald Monday User Valdimir newsigicon.png 18:38, 31 May 2010 (UTC)
haha i remember on morrowind(old game, and im 14!)i killed this woman in a lighthouse and then i needed to talk to her...lol!--♥Icyyy♥ 22:09, 31 May 2010 (UTC)
I think it would be awesome to have something almost HoM-y to store/display things that you've accomplished/earned/killed/redused to a mass of disgusting jelly-like substance. Like, when you kill a boss you get the option of having it's head mounted on the wall. Heh, imagine i you could do that for the Elder Dragons, you could just make the house out of it. Zolann The IrreverentUser Zolann The Irreverent Mysterious Summoning Stone.png 00:04, 1 June 2010 (UTC)
I think though, that its just there to store things you dont want like a storage and when you start the game you are at the house(after making your character)--♥Icyyy♥ 01:02, 1 June 2010 (UTC)

Home instance quests[edit]

I'd love to see some special events in home instances. Maybe something like: You've irritated a gang leader and he/she attacks your home with his/her gang, and you have to defend. Or something like that :D SnD'- 19:18, 24 June 2010 (UTC)

I support this idea. :D And on a similar note, I'd love it if there was more incentive to visit your home instance. Currently some NPCs will show up after you complete your personal storyline, but they often don't have anything special to say. I think ANet should make it so that you'll sometimes receive mail from these NPCs, telling you to drop by your home sometime so they can give you a gift. The first time you visit them, they might give you something valuable (ranging from a gem or a salvage kit at lower levels, to something like a unique Gift recipe at level 80), while on subsequent visits they might give you some extra money or materials to help you on your journey. It'd be kind of like the keyless chests in Nightfall; small, possibly diminishing, rewards that you can revisit now and again over time. - Zaxares 02:27, 12 October 2012 (UTC)

Huh?[edit]

What do other characters see in the area where the Home instance is if theirs isn't located in the same location? Like, if your a Norn, and go to the Black citadel, what do you see in the area where the personal instance is? Is it blocked off from you? Like is there a gate that lets specific people in or out? AsuranSylvari 01:56, 2 July 2010 (UTC)

I assume you wouldn't be able to go into another town's home instance area unless you were invited by someone of that race. And at that point you would only see that person's achievements. There's no reason you would be able to enter as yourself. --Kyoshi User Kyoshi sig.png (Talk) 02:03, 2 July 2010 (UTC)

Salma District[edit]

While a logical assumption where is the source for the note that the "Salma district" is the Human home instance.--Lord randy taylor 03:57, 8 August 2010 (UTC) Retracted found it--Lord randy taylor 04:00, 8 August 2010 (UTC)

I read that article and didn't see where it said that humans always start in the Sama district...maybe I missed it. can you perhaps quote the line that states that. Thanks (Usaf1a8xx 16:15, 23 August 2010 (UTC))
On the ingame map, it's labeled "Salma District (Home)"I doubt they would make more than one whole sixth of the city "Home." Just my two gold. Zolann The IrreverentUser Zolann The Irreverent Mysterious Summoning Stone.png 17:12, 23 August 2010 (UTC)
Again just speculation but I don't see it being that hard to make different instances (would only have to be 4 not 6)so that if you chose in your character setup to be Ascalonian by heritage, then your map would say Rurikton (or whatever it was called) was your home area. Unless you can't pick your heritage, then it doesn't fit that if you were of Ascalonian decent that your home would be Sama District and not Rurikton. And that's probably like 4 gold worth not just 2  :-P (Usaf1a8xx 00:20, 24 August 2010 (UTC))
And we already know you can pick your [[Heritage]] (Usaf1a8xx 05:11, 24 August 2010 (UTC))
It doesn't really work if people can have different sections of the city be their personal instance. That would mean for people who picked a different heritage than you, that section of city would either be inaccessible or persistent. Check out this youtube video, where it is explained that only the Salma District is instanced. [1] ~7:30 --Emelend 01:22, 26 September 2010 (UTC)

Grr![edit]

I still dont get this?!?! Whats it for?!?!?!?--Icyyy Blue User IcyyyBlue Elementalist Blue.png 22:46, 16 January 2011 (UTC)

It's so our personal storyline choices can have an impact on a larger area without affecting other peoples personal storyline. ShadowRunner 22:54, 16 January 2011 (UTC)
^That. It's basically an instanced area like HoM in GW1, it changes only for yourself and those you take with you. Others cannot enter your Home instance without you as you cannot enter theirs without them. The Home instance undergoes changes depending on what choices you make in your storyline. - Infinite - talk 22:59, 16 January 2011 (UTC)

Charr Home Instance[edit]

I forget the origin, but I recall hearing the Charr home instance is a barracks in the Black Citadel. --79.97.144.31 12:35, 1 May 2011 (UTC)

Asura vs. Human[edit]

Asura´s only get their lab, while humans get an entire district? That doesn't seem fair... And besides, how are asura's going to fit all of the merchants and everything else in their lab? -- Michiel -talk 09:03, 8 June 2011 (UTC)

We don't know how big their laboratory is, yet. --Xu Davella 09:21, 8 June 2011 (UTC)

Oola;s lab --User:The Holy Dragons 93.186.171.62 11:44, 8 June 2011 (UTC)
Well, it could be an entire section of Rata Sum and your lab is a small part of it. We'll just have to wait and see. -Alcyius

Parties don't enter the home instance of their leader[edit]

In the notes section, there's a cited note that says parties will enter the home instance of their leader. This isn't true. Group leader has nothing to do with it. In betas, the instance was created based on whichever character activated the instancing transport (the door). If player 2 in a party walked up to a door, it would be his/her instance that the party enters, regardless of race. So if a human and charr in a group go to the salma district, and the charr is the second player in the party, but walks to the door to the salma district, it becomes "his instance". This home has no discerning features and has generic NPCs.

More than one inctanced area in a town[edit]

There tends to be more than one instanced area in a town, normally there's your "Home Instance" and then there's also a "council chambers", which is also instanced (sometimes more as well). Not sure how to update this page to reflect that, or if we should take this to Instance. Illiander 09:40, 10 August 2012 (UTC)

Is it possible to explore the area of the council chambers through normal exploration? Or is it exclusively an instanced area? --Xu Davella 09:49, 10 August 2012 (UTC)
You can go in at any point to at least some of them. Haven't checked all of them, but haven't found any that you can't yet. Illiander 16:23, 12 August 2012 (UTC)
Home instances and places like the council chambers are all instanced, but you can enter them at any time regardless of your race. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 17:16, 12 August 2012 (UTC)

Deborah?[edit]

Is it possible to see Deborah again after the Liberation quest? Is she present somewhere in Salma district? cc 18:19, 8 September 2012 (UTC)

Cataloging[edit]

So should we start cataloging the changes that occur in our home instance based on personal decisions?--Indigo121 22:22, 9 September 2012 (UTC)

I'm not sure anything changes at all yet. I haven't noticed anything, at least. I think it's meant for future content. If so, this page and Personal_story#Rewards need to be updated accordingly. Manifold User Manifold Neptune.jpg 18:25, 28 September 2012 (UTC)

Basic Lumber Node Pack[edit]

I visited an asura home and he had mimosa, ekku and tukama sapling.

Resource Node Sharing with Visitors[edit]

It is a significant game feature to share Resource nodes in your home instance with other party members once per day. This "Open House" feature deserves to be highlighted in the opening paragraph not buried in the text below. ~ 1Maven (talk) 07:21, 27 March 2015 (UTC)

Hero Point[edit]

How do you obtain this for your home instance? --175.142.33.214 19:17, 26 April 2016 (UTC)

The Hero Point is a Krait Obelisk Shard. It is unlocked by a Krait Obelisk Shard (item), of which that can be purchased from a Laurel Merchant. - Doodleplex 19:28, 26 April 2016 (UTC)

Cats[edit]

Should there be a link here to the cat "collection" that one can accrue? I think anything that can be added to the home instance (including NPCs and creatures) should at least have a link to it from here. The first I heard about the home instance cats was today, and I'm surprised there's nothing here that links directly to the cat page.144.138.24.160 03:58, 6 October 2016 (UTC)

Math formulas[edit]

Could it be possible to have this : tp price for a home instance node / (the number of stuff yielded on average when mining * the price of the said stuff) . This formula would get us the average number of days required to make profit out of a bought node. Thought that depends on the current price and the fact that you sell/tipp the access to your home instance or not (and average number of stuff yielded, possibly affected by mining bonuses), I think this could be interesting information. Not sure how to do math calculations on wiki.--82.240.45.162 07:29, 22 April 2017 (UTC)

Webby Hatchling?[edit]

I've finished Ep 5 on my main account, and when I went in to check the GW1 character was there, there was also a Webby Hatchling. Since then though I've not seen it. Anyone know how/why/when this spawns? 86.25.107.236 19:46, 6 May 2017 (UTC)

Seems it only appears if you enter your home instance during the night. 86.25.107.236 11:26, 7 May 2017 (UTC)

Node Names[edit]

Why does nodes have their names changed back to the full length ? I thought we agreed few months back that they will be shorter in the list as well as in nav. There was a reason we had it that way --DiegoDeLaHouska (talk) 21:14, 28 November 2020 (UTC)

Noxx is the editor who did the change. If there's a discussion somewhere, they didn't know about it and did what they thought was better is likely what happened, so just point it out to them. - Doodleplex 21:23, 28 November 2020 (UTC)
I missed such a discussion if it happened somewhere, I can't find it on this page anyway, but if I took part in it I would be very much against that. I see no reason whatsoever to use the full names on some of the items and to shorten them on others. I can't think of another example on the wiki where we do that in a table like this and I wouldn't expect it as a user here either, it's just pointlessly confusing... EoD Contract via API[edit]

The End of Dragons Expedition Contract does not get marked off as already owned when you fill in an API key for an account with that node. It doesn't look like black_lion_expedition_board_eod is a valid node ID. I'm not sure what the right one could be though -- is this perhaps missing from the API or am I just not noticing the correct ID in the list? --Owls (talk) 01:14, 1 September 2022 (UTC)

If I am looking correctly, it is indeed missing from the API, and the only thing we can really do with that is to add a note stating that it does not work with the API widget, sadly. ~Sime
Ya, you can see the full node list and there are only four expedition contracts listed, normal (s3), s4, hunters, and industry. --Dak393 (talk) 01:30, 1 September 2022 (UTC)
