Location[edit]
Dialogue[edit]
- Kestrel Market, northwest
- (To non-charr characters)
- We don't need no stinking treaty. I heard this guy saying we could so easily wipe out the charr. So easily, you hear me? I dunno why we ever stopped the war.
- Umm... he said it was so easy. I could go up to the charr delegation and slit their throats.
- Does this sound sane to you? This guy was setting you up to be an assassin who would have re-started the war!
- You've got to be joking. I'm out of here.
Oh sure. Perfect plan. Nothing could go wrong.
- I'm leaving.
- (To charr characters)
- Hey, charr. You're lucky. Soooo lucky. Lemme tell you how lucky yoooou are. So lucky it's...disgusting. All three of you walking through this town like this, like big, lucky, fuzzy blurs of fuzz.
- Yeah, well, this great guy at the bar kept giving me drinks. Told me how I could be a real hero to my people, y'know? Said I could just walk into the charr delegation camp at night...
- He said all I needed wasssss...a knife. Just a knife. So I could go slitty slit slit. Sooo easy. Yeah!
- [sic]
- What? Noooo, never, not a chan...hey-o, wait. He did say something about being a terrific sacrifice for the cause. Great Grenth's garters! He was gonna have me killed. Oh, I think I'm gonna be sick.
- Sober up and put the knife away. You'll feel better. Trust me.
Hold on. You can't walk in to the charr delegation camp like that! You'll get butchered where you stood. This guy, it sounds like he setting you up to be an assassin.
Hold on a second. What are you planning? At least tell me before you vomit yourself into unconsciousness.
Whoa. Stand back a bit. All that booze on your breath is making my fur curl. It's like you went swimming in a tavern or something.
- I'm not getting involved with this.
- Kestrel Market, near waypoint
- (To non-charr characters)
- The queen's going to do it. She's going to sign that treaty and let the charr off easy for all the blood they've spilled. Disgusting.
- You weren't here! You never suffered through constant sieges. I lost both my uncles, by mother, and three close friends. That treaty won't bring them back.
- I know. It's just...hard to let them go. After all this time, I thought victory would make it better. I guess I need time.
- I wish you the best.
Treaties never do anything for the past, just the future. You'll have one out here. I'm sorry for your loss, but no-one else will have to suffer losses like yours again here.
- There's nothing I can say, I guess.
Think of it this way. They've wasted so many lives trying to take Ebonhawke. Both sides lost so much, and soon it will be over.
- I'll come back another time.
- (To charr characters)
- You take your smug face out of here, animal. Your side spilled so much blood, and the queen is going to let you off easy.
- I'd rather have all of you in shallow graves for what you put us through. The treaty means nothing to me.
- That's something I never thought I'd hear a charr say. I still don't trust your kind here, but something tells me you're right about Ebonhawke.
- Time will tell.
It's not supposed to mean anything for us or the dead. It's the next generation who'll benefit. To our children, Ebonhawke will be just a town, not a slaughterhouse to die in. That's something.
It was never easy. We gave up countless lives trying to take this city. If anything, you won. You'll keep this place and witness a rare sight: charr retreating.
- I can't talk to you.
- Middle ring road, near northeast construction site
- The Separatists are the only ones looking out for us. Definitely not the queen. She's bowing down to those beasts who killed our friends and family.
- humans?
- Well, you know, they're trying to keep us safe. They're trying to make sure we have a future out here.
- I guess I never thought of it like that. I...I need to think about this.
- You do that. Take care.
Sure, by terrorizing everyone in Ebonhawke. You call that safe? In the long run, you'll be trading a charr threat for them.
- Never mind.
Aren't they also attacking anyone who doesn't agree with them? Including other - I can't talk to you.
- Middle ring road, near southeast tavern
- I don't care if they sign that lousy treaty. We'll secede. That's show that charr-loving queen.
- You really think so?
- asuran gate, or help from Divinity's Reach. Have fun when winter comes. Or when the ogres invade. Or when something nasty emerges from the Brand.
- Wait a minute. Yeah, I guess I didn't think this through. Just forget I said anything, okay?
- Done and done.
Absolutely. You don't need Ebonhawke, or an - Wow, you're thick. I'm leaving.
Oh sure. Perfect plan. Nothing could go wrong.
- Yeah, good luck with that.
- Inner ring road, just northeast of Fallen Angel Makayla
- (To non-charr characters)
- I'm never going to make peace with the charr! Those monsters can choke on that treaty.
- [sic] From my point of view, your side won.
- What? The Separatists have been saying we're going to lose with the treaty.
- You got a point there. It is quieter in Ebonhawke. You can hear birds even. Thanks for setting my head straight.
- Take care.
Really? The charr aren't killing you, are they? Sounds like a win to me.
- There's no reasoning with you.
Sounds like the charr realize that fighting Ebonhawke was impossible to conquer. - Okay, then.
- (To charr characters)
- I'm never going to make peace with your kind. You can go choke on the treaty.
- [sic], you win.
- This is a charr trick. You're going to march in one night and kill us all in our sleep. I know it.
- legions have pulled back and left you alone. Sounds like a victory to me.
- I still don't trust you, but maybe this treaty isn't so bad. We'll get our land again, but you'll still be on our old land. I guess I'll have to live with that.
- Take care.
What you're talking about would bust the cease-fire and burn the treaty. Your side got Ebonhawke and the land around it. The
Huh? I thought you would like the treaty. My race couldn't crack Ebonhawke. From my point of you
- Inner ring road, just northwest of Fallen Angel Makayla
- You hear that? It's the calm before the storm. I keep hearing that there's a charr army to the north, ready to kill us all.
- But, it's quiet. Like, really quiet. It's like when the charr were reloading and preparing for another attack. I hear people saying we need to kill the charr before they come for us.
- Come to think of it, the guy who [was] telling me about this couldn't prove any of what he was saying. He seemed a little blood-crazed, too.
- There's all sorts out there. Watch yourself.
It's quiet because of the ceasefire, and the north isn't safe for humans or charr. You've been misled.
- You need to calm down. Seriously.
To the north? That's the Dragonbrand. I hear nothing lives up there. Definitely can't store an army up there.
- That's crazy talk.
- Inner ring road, southwest
- (To non-charr characters)
- I head[sic] a rumor that the charr are going to kill the human delegation, then invade Ebonhawke. We need to kill the charr before they kill us.
- Huh? Never heard of that one. Really?
- You know, that makes a lot more sense than an army appearing out of nowhere and marching into Ebonhawke.
- See, there you go. Take care now.
Think about it. The charr are proud; they won't leave without saving face. The treaty gives them an out. They'll march out and leave you alone for good.
- Yeah, that's the big rumor going around these days.
Strange. I heard a rumor that the charr are signing a treaty because Ebonhawke completely defeated the charr.
- I don't have time for conspiracy theories.
- (To charr characters)
- Oh Gods! It's already started. Invader! Invader!
- The Separatists said the charr would storm Ebonhawke. They said you'd kill everyone at the delegation, then come south with blood on your teeth and fire in your eyes.
- You certainly don't act like an invading force. I'll tell you what, being paranoid all the time for an invasion that still hasn't show[sic] up is tiring. I need a break.
- Sure thing. Take a break. It'll do you some good.
It's just me here. I'm not dripping blood. My eyes are clear, and I'm just walking around here. And last I heard, the delegation is just fine. Do I look like an invader to you?
I'm not invading. I'm just walking through the streets here. What's the problem?
- I'll be leaving now.
- Inner ring road, southeast
- (To non-charr characters)
- How can the queen agree to peace with the charr? They're just going to double-cross us, you know that right?
- I've been hearing talk on the tavern. After the treaty is signed, we're going to be killed by the charr as we sleep.
- I don't know. I guess it doesn't make sense without a few pints in you. I think I need to clear my head.
- You do that. Take care.
You trust everything you hear in a tavern? Look, why would the charr sign a treaty, and then break it, when they could just keep attacking Ebonhawke?
- I can't reason with you.
Interesting theory. How did you know this?
- Never mind.
- (To charr characters)
- Get out! You'll never be trusted by us. You may have fooled that idiot queen, but you'll never fool us.
- That so-called treaty. We know you...charr and the queen struck a deal. You get to come here and kill us or take us as slaves while she looks the other way.
- You...you're right. Why would you bother signing a treaty just to provoke another war? That man in the tavern had to have been wrong.
- Must have been.
That's a complete misfire, lady. If we did that, all of humanity would rise up and march against us.
I'll be totally honest with you: I have no idea what you are talking about.
- I can't talk to you.
- Inner ring road, east
- No treaty. Not now, not ever.
- Wait, that's not what I meant.
- Come to think of it, there might be some benefits to the treaty after all.
- Thought you'd see it that way. Good-bye.
Seems if I had a choice between war and peace, I'd take peace. The charr are packing up and leaving, thanks to the treaty.
- Sounds like you need to figure out what you really want.
So, you'd prefer a constant state of siege? Got it.
- Sounds like your mind is made up.
- Center plaza, near the Hawke Heart
- (To non-charr characters)
- The Separatists have it right! How can anyone make peace with the charr? They've murdered our family, our friends. We should skin them all!
- I...I never thought of it like that. The war's been going on for so long. I don't know what's going to come next.
- Yeah...look, I didn't mean to get angry at you. Living out here is hard, but it looks like it'll get easier. Thanks again.
- Take care.
At least you'll get a chance to find out. You, your children, and their children.
- Yeah, I can see that.
Peace means an end to the war. No one else has to be killed. I can't bring back the dead, but I imagine with it you'll have a future out here.
- Sure, why not?
- (To charr characters)
- How dare you come in here? Your kind murdered our family, our friends! If the guards weren't here, you'd be skinned and dumped into the trash, you damn monster!
- No...no, you don't. You don't get to equate our dead with yours! Your dead mean nothing. You're all killers. All of you!
- Gods, you're right. I threatened you and everything. You had every right to defend yourself, but you kept your cool. I really don't know what to say.
- Not much to say. The war's over. Good luck to you.
And yet, here we are. Me and you talking on a street. No weapons drawn, no battle cries. Just two people who lived through war and now get the lucky break to live in peace.
- There's no reasoning with you.
I know what you mean. We lost friends who were close as family, too. I can only imagine your loss. If you ask me, we got the hardest detail of all: we have to live through this.
- I can't talk to you.
