Help Needed

I accidentally made a double (triple?) redirect between mastery insight pages. I need my mess untangled. If it's possible to revert all move changes I made that would be best I think as I'm not sure how to fix it/recover the pages. I had good intentions I promise, just need a hand. Thanks. If you could peek into my history for the pages that would be immensely helpful as I can barely distinguish between the page names as it is. (It's a mess omg) The preceding unsigned comment was added by Erebosio (talkcontribs) at 05:51, 3 November 2015‎‎ (UTC).

I'm fixing it right now.--Relyk ~ talk < 05:56, 3 November 2015 (UTC)

Account Creation Problem

129.119.209.41 (talkcontribslogsblock log) I tried registering on the forums after making a change to the Blueprints Page and when I tried entering my info, the name I desired "Bloodh0und" was considered a spam account name. Just wanted to clarify that I'm not creating a spam account and don't mind choosing a different name. Bloodh0und The preceding unsigned comment was added by 129.119.209.41 (talkcontribs) at 00:16, 13 November 2015‎ (UTC).

Good news is that your account wasn't blocked. Bad news is that the zero in your name was flagged as something spambots often try to do. Bloodhound, without the zero, is available if you'd like to try that. G R E E N E R 00:59, 13 November 2015 (UTC)

Tables and Bugs

I don't want to make a long thread on poor Ventriloquist's page but I don't know where else to put this. The following pages have issues with tables making the bottom part of the pages wonky if you're browsing on anything larger than 800 height as your screen resolution(ie. it looks like the image on the left instead of how it should be with the one on the right: http://imgur.com/zYt5xS1 ):

The problem isn't the table itself, but to do with the setFooter function on MediaWiki:Monobook.js. The js script resets the footer height to fill the rest of the page (for some obscure reason), and only fires when the window is resized or on page load - not after the collapsible tables are shrunk (the page first loads the tables, then it loads the setFooter code, then it shrinks the tables). We used to have similar code on the vector.js page, but we removed it and everything works ok.
Solution: change your skin to vector mwhahaha well shit, monobook default users? >.>
I'll take a look later this evening or tomorrow morning to fix it. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 20:03, 10 February 2016 (UTC)

AbuseFilter request

Hello fellow admins, I'm looking at filter #6 - currently this filter looks at the new_wikitext, but this means that spammers can drop their payload on a page which meets one of the exception criteria already. Can we revise the rule slightly so that it hits on only newly added/changed content? I was thinking of "edit_diff" instead but I don't know, without testing it myself using my ip, whether that'll prevent IPs reverting vandalism. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 18:03, 24 March 2016 (UTC)

Editing own sandbox identified as abuse

Hi admins, sorry to bother

I was trying to copy a wiki page into my own sandbox to try editing that table, but it didn't let me because it was marked as "Mainspace, large removal (not autoconfirmed)" even though I'm not even removing much but adding a whole page. --Lordtyr (talk) 08:19, 15 July 2016 (UTC)

Whoops, looks like a badly setup abusefilter - it should have ignored edits in your own userpage, but it was doing an exact match on your username ("Lordtyr") within the page title (User:Lordtyr/sandbox"), as opposed to a partial match, which would have prevented your issue. Could you try again before commenting here so we can see if I've correctly changed the abusefilter markup?
(also fyi, the bytecount went down because it looks at the size of the raw page, not the output, so if you swap raw template code for the template, it will count as a removal of bytes)
Apologies for the inconvenience! -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 09:45, 15 July 2016 (UTC)

Spam bot uploaded a picture

I know it's probably stupidly rare for a bot to do that, but just in case for the future perhaps image file names should be capped at either 75 or 100 characters? The file name for the bot was 152 characters, and the longest legit file name I've seen (so far anyway) was 67. Also maybe a cap for image descriptions(perhaps 2k?), because lol it spammed 17k bytes in there. - Doodleplex 19:05, 20 July 2016 (UTC)

Wierdly the abusefilter can't check file upload (file names or file text). (back end process is: upload file to database, then upload the text. The abusefilter extension isn't currently capable of cancelling the file upload if the text is rejected. link. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 20:19, 20 July 2016 (UTC)
That's unfortunate. =( Is there a way to cap how long a file title is or how much text/bytes can be on a picture's description? I know certain forms do have such restrictions, is it possible to do so here? - Doodleplex 20:30, 20 July 2016 (UTC)
from the linked page
Edit count of user (user_editcount)
Name of user account (user_name)
Groups (including implicit) user is in (user_groups)
Whether or not a user is editing through the mobile interface (user_mobile)
file_articleid = page id of the image page, or "0" for new uploads
file_namespace = "6"
file_text = unprefixed page name of the image page
file_prefixedtext = full page name of the image page
Action (action) = "upload"
SHA1 hash of file contents (file_sha1)
Whether or not the change was made through a tor exit node (tor_exit_node)
Unix timestamp of change (timestamp)
We're not running 1.24/wmf, we're using version 1.26 of mediawiki, which doesn't include the file_text, or file_prefixedtext. We basically get nothing incriminating. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 21:41, 20 July 2016 (UTC)
Didn't we used to restrict uploads to autoconfirmed, or am I just crazy? Maybe I'm just crazy. Apparently I'm crazy. Anyway, that's a potential nuclear option if it winds up becoming a problem in the future, but probably too heavy-handed for a one-off event that an attentive admin can take care of manually. - Tanetris (talk) 06:52, 22 July 2016 (UTC)
Weirdly spambots don't tend to upload pictures. I'm sure we used to require autoconfirmed at one stage... The config option would be $wgGroupPermissions['autoconfirmed']['upload'] = true; (mw:Manual:Configuring file uploads#Upload permissions) -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 21:02, 19 August 2016 (UTC)

Modified Miniature Collection Achievements

I modified the 3 collection achievements pertaining to miniatures to include the TP prices. Unfortunately I'm not very well versed in wiki programming; so if someone could please make the code neater, it would be most helpful. I've tried to look into being able to loop through #ask calls but haven't come up with anything yet and have currently opted to "brute force" a table with the prices. -76.71.50.123 (talkcontribslogsblock log)

I changed the code using ask and arraymap. Hopefully this fulfill the request. --BryghtShadow (talk) 21:21, 13 August 2016 (UTC)

Background Update in Progress?

I'm looking around some pages, and almost any container page that I purge the cache for seems to immediately lose the ability to find where it is obtained from (see Bananas in Bulk for example). Additionally i am noticing quite a few icons that are not registering and a page purge is needed. Is this expected at the moment, or do I need to grab a pitchfork? -Darqam (talk) 17:09, 15 August 2016 (UTC)

Quick re-edit: error from the {{vendor list}} template: "No results for vendor list. If the item is sold at a vendor, it may not have been added to the vendor yet."-Darqam (talk) 17:10, 15 August 2016 (UTC)

This morning at about 9:30 AM Pacific time I initiated a full rebuild of the wiki's semantic data in order to (hopefully) resolve a technical issue where the Apache processes would occasionally get stuck while attempting to handle SMW jobs. Unfortunately, given how many semantic objects there are in this wiki (about 1.6 million last I checked), this process will take several days, but hopefully as it progresses the number of issues people may encounter will decrease. I do apologize for any inconvience. Justin Lloyd (talk) 17:20, 15 August 2016 (UTC)
Ah ok, in which case I will wait to 'fix' pages until this is done. Chieftain Alex had mentioned this would probably happen in the near future and I wanted to make sure this was the case. In the mean time; to anyone reading this. Think twice before purging the server cache for a page until this is done as it may return empty results for a while. Thanks for answering so promptly Justin.-Darqam (talk) 17:28, 15 August 2016 (UTC)
Would be nice to know if it gets stuck on particular jobs. Database rebuild day is my least favorite day.--Relyk ~ talk < 01:25, 16 August 2016 (UTC)
Wiki stage server took 2.5 days to complete, live has more resources, ergo it should be done quicker. I think it's still running at the moment, as World boss/data was devoid of subobjects. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 06:35, 16 August 2016 (UTC)
It's looking like it may take the whole week. Regarding which jobs it the Semantic MediaWiki gets stuck on, we could only see that it was SMW jobs and that's why we're starting there to see it helps. We understand that it's not ideal, but the current complexity of the wiki doesn't allow us to troubleshoot this issue as well as we'd like. FYI once we've fixed the 2 problems we're currently facing (SMW jobs getting stuck, 502 errors), I'd like to start a public project to see if any cleanup of the SMW information can be done (e.g. eliminate redundancy, useless info, etc.) --Stephane Lo Presti talk 14:36, 16 August 2016 (UTC)

Undeletion request: Bag of Stolen Goods/Drop rate

Back in 2013 this page was deleted for not collecting data. I've seen plenty of blank drop rate research tables that were empty before I added my data into it, so having this page should not be a problem. I believe that undeleting is faster than manually recreating, which is why I opened this request. ThePsionic (talk) 11:59, 23 October 2016 (UTC)

Greater Gift of Candy Corn

Looking to avoid a revert war so I'd like some third parties to comment on Talk:Greater Gift of Candy Corn. User:Spannu seems to be invoking some sort of sunk cost fallacy to state that the entire output of the upgraded node should be used in calculating the rate of return on the upgrade (without respect to the presence of an existing node). At least one other IP tried to compromise by adding both calculations but he also changed that one to effectively say the same thing as his (mathematically incorrect) view. 76.253.2.43 11:31, 26 October 2016 (UTC)

Elize Fairchild

This page Elize Fairchild has repeatably had it's trivia changed to something un-proven/un-demonstrated. A talk page was put up to discuss these changes but nothing seems to have come of it. The IP of the editor has varied over time, so it might be worthwile to put a protection on the page until a proper discussion can be held. -Darqam 20:42, 8 November 2016 (UTC)

159.238.20.43 (talkcontribslogsblock log) might be the problem child here, not the page, as they've been the one reverting things. I think the easiest answer here is to just ask Stephane to see if it's true. - Doodleplex 21:29, 8 November 2016 (UTC)
Fwiw referring to a user in a dispute as a "problem child" does not help resolve the situation. - Felix Omni 19:38, 9 November 2016 (UTC)

Request to flag as bot

Hello, admin friends!

Many apologies if this is not the correct section, but I'm still very much new to Wiki-related things.

I recently got fascinated by the work in his userpage of a friend of mine, User:Kherec, and I decided to wanted to do something similar for my own characters, but through API, so I wrote a Python script to automate it. It currently produces its output only on the User:RaelZero/Characters page.

I created another account for the script, that currently logs in as User:RaelBot. I understand there might be a need to flag that user as a bot. Is this the correct place to ask? Would you kindly do this for me?

I'm currently continuing to develop the bot's script to also make it generate a separate page in my username's namespace for each of my characters, to show my friends what builds I'm using, what dungeon story paths I have, and similar. Am I allowed to do this via the bot? And what if my guildmates and friends decide they want to also have their pages generated like this? Am I allowed to also use the bots for their user pages? Of course, they'd give me their API keys beforehand.

Thanks for the amazing work, and I'm looking forwards to your answer! --RaelZero (talk) 10:43, 14 November 2016 (UTC)

Uh, so let me get this straight, you want to use a bot to edit solely userpages? Just use your main account, without bot rights. How often were you thinking of updating it anyway? -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 18:20, 14 November 2016 (UTC)
That is correct, I only plan to edit userpages. I just wanted to make sure I wouldn't infringe any procedure. I don't plan of updating it too often. Probably, once I get the code right, I'll only run an update once or twice a week. Thanks for the help! --RaelZero (talk)

Deletion request 2016-11-22 update

Temporary Bot Flag

I found a way to add == Licensing == to any image/icon that doesn't currently have it without any hiccups. However there are around 25k+ images, and so far running it under my own account has found 1k, and while I've picked the "off peak" hours to do this so far, it's still nuking the recent change log. While I could ask for somebody else to do this on the Bot Page, it's such a large task that I'd rather not tie up anybody else's bot, as after running that, I'd like to also have it go through just the icons and remove unneeded summaries (Like == Summary== St6/bw3/etc.). I can do this during the weekend as I imagine it'd be easier to get ahold of somebody remove the bot flag can be from the account(which I think should probably be under J.A.R.V.I.S.?) once completed. - Doodleplex 18:28, 1 December 2016 (UTC)

As per User talk:Poke#bot tag for J.A.R.V.I.S., this is now resolved with a permanent bot flag. Please take care ;) poke | talk 21:57, 2 December 2016 (UTC)

Change username?

Who do I talk to to have my username changed here on the wiki? —Horsedrowner (talk) 10:42, 10 December 2016 (UTC)

Hi, you can request a user merge over here. To answer your actual question, only bureaucrats, in this case User:Tanetris and User:poke, can perform such actions. However, a mere name change as such is not possible. You might want to consider creating a new account with the name you desire instead. User Incarnazeus Signature.pngtalk 11:41, 10 December 2016 (UTC)
That was once true, however we have Special:RenameUser now (bcrat only). -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 14:49, 10 December 2016 (UTC)

Can "File:Gw024.jpg" and "File:Gw022.jpg" be protected from being uploaded again? Both have been uploaded and moved at least 3 times. - Doodleplex 02:08, 13 December 2016 (UTC)

It's not really worth it, as the file # corresponds to the image in the GW2 screenshots folder. The same reason could be used for File:Gw002.jpg, which was uploaded four times, or File:Gw023.jpg with a whooping six uploads. —Ventriloquist 17:35, 13 December 2016 (UTC)
