armor skin sets

I revamped those pages. The items being documented are not consumable skins, they are containers that contain consumable skins, so I changed the type in the infobox accordingly. This means they can't be semantically identified as skins of any type anymore, and we should deprecate the usage of "skin type = set". —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 16:22, 23 April 2014 (UTC)

What dyes are those?

while your comment doesn't correspond with ishmael's edit, I assume you're talking about the dye colors used in the armor galleries such as Human female heavy armor.

Spam bots

I'm in contemplative mood. I just stuck a speedy del tag on a spam bot's user page, and you duly obliged with the deletion. Now, you and I both know it's a spam bot - name follows the FirstnameLastname convention and there are a few lines of "bio" - but should I be making that call? Abuse filter is very good at what it does and you sysops are no slouches in that department either. Is there any point in me del-tagging spam bots, or should I try and kick the habit? — snogratUser Snograt signature.png 12:12, 25 April 2014 (UTC)

As much as I'd love to do a filter to block users without spaces in their names (poke, relyk, yourself..) + short userpages, I'm probably not the guy to write a filter ;) that said, I'll give it a shot. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 12:15, 25 April 2014 (UTC)
Hah, you're using my musing as an excuse to do some more funky coding! I was just really asking if it is right for a bog-standard user like me to make the assumption that a user is a bot, or should I leave that sort of stuff to you pros? The system seems perfect, though - I haven't actually seen a bot drop its payload in aaaaages. (Oh, as for that filter: be careful. An old-timer who perfectly fits that criteria would be MithranArkanere) — snogratUser Snograt signature.png 12:36, 25 April 2014 (UTC)
Its alright if mith gets caught, he was always posting gibberish. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 12:39, 25 April 2014 (UTC)
Match: New user
Match: Userspace
Either: Contains text with 3 special characters commonly used instead of normal text (eg cyrillic R replacing latin R)
or: Contains text such as "yrs old, years old, my age, born on, city, live in"
AND text such as "i am, my name, hobby, hobbies, interest, learn"
Basically what I've set as filter #28. Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 12:59, 25 April 2014 (UTC)
Awesomesauce. I had wondered what the story behind those spurious characters was. — snogratUser Snograt signature.png 13:39, 25 April 2014 (UTC)
I wonder if you didn't try to cover too much there. "I am" and "my name" are quite common on legitimate user pages, and it's not uncommon for a user (especially a new one) to list their age. That combination might be troublesome.
I added a condition that it has to be a new page, so it doesn't affect any existing userpages. You could add a negative condition, if ! contains("guild wars 2", "gw2"), that would help to ignore at least some legit new users. You might also want to disable the actions on that filter for now to see what kind of hits it gets, either that or keep a close watch on the hits so you can help any legitimate users. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 14:12, 25 April 2014 (UTC)
(I've done this before...) Too ballsy on an untested filter, I've unticked "block" but left "prevent" active. I'll see what happens.. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 17:41, 25 April 2014 (UTC)
God ishmael :p I was testing the filter on that page xD -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 15:15, 28 April 2014 (UTC)
I was sort of doing the same thing, that's why I fixed the namespace ID in the filter. It still didn't match because it only said "from X" instead of "live in X" or the other variants in the filter. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 16:00, 28 April 2014 (UTC)
Good spot, user talk not so good.
I was thinking of an alternative path involving something like added_lines irlike ("i\sam\s.*\sfrom\s.*\.") (or whatever the regex is that would match on "I am Alex from England.") + something != reddit/guild wars 2/guild wars etc,
or simply "from" in the same added_lines bit as "live in" (dunno how many legit users say where they're from on their userpages.) -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 16:29, 28 April 2014 (UTC)
If there is a little chance of blocking out normal users, it’s not an option. Seriously, I don’t think this is all worth the effort/risks. There aren’t that many spam user pages. poke | talk 16:56, 28 April 2014 (UTC)
speaking as someone who actually ends up deleting the userpage spam that doesn't quite match the current 27 filters, I actually would say it was worth the time putting something together vs this specific pattern. I'd be open to suggestions for a nice regex pattern that matches the use of odd characters ("ɑ","Ԁ","ց","ǥ","Һ","ɦ","ո","օ","ߋ","г","ս","ƴ") in amongst standard latin characters - that pattern often gets through, e.g. 3 minutes ago: while sandinց may caսse the - although I did put this in the above filter, its not quite the same target spam user so should probably be separate. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 11:03, 29 April 2014 (UTC)

Dark Asuran

We have all the icons, they're just used for the inquest weapons. Inquest weapons got new icons. Would it be easier for you to move them then upload the new inquest icons? I DON'T KNOW THAT'S UP TO YOU. Psycho Robot (talk) 20:49, 27 April 2014 (UTC)

Yeah, cloned replaced them all. Its easier by far for me to just upload from scratch (did you know files also get duped smw properties on move? not important for 99%..). I've got them kicking about somewhere in my downloads folder, and if not, the api has them. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 21:12, 27 April 2014 (UTC)

Also not a reply. I need the following redirects deleted, which I made before I realised that you can only move over a redirect if its redirecting to the page you're attempting to move. This message will self destruct. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 08:09, 28 April 2014 (UTC)
This is also not a reply. I made this code to automatically pipe a link that has a suffix, like Nightmare Court armor (light), but I can't figure out where to insert it in armor infobox so that if I input set = Nightmare Court armor (light) it automatically pipes it. So help me!
(}}|}} Psycho Robot (talk) 19:44, 28 April 2014 (UTC)
(surprise: this is a reply) I've wrapped the armor_set var in cname in the armor infobox + applied canonical name to armor set infobox. So don't pipe the link. Easier right? Just about to apply similar code from the armor infobox to the armor set for the skin parameter. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 20:18, 28 April 2014 (UTC)
Easier?! I didn't ask you for that! Psycho Robot (talk) 20:21, 28 April 2014 (UTC)
Piping links that are getting fed to SMW #set things is guaranteed to mess something up. However, here is the code anyway.
( }} | Nightmare Court armor (light) | Nightmare Court armor (light) }}
( }} | Nightmare Court armor (light) | Nightmare Court armor (light) }}
the if with the plus in it is trimming whitespace generated by exploding at the opening bracket. If you're piping something in an infobox (you shouldn't be..) then remove the subst before the ! mark. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 20:32, 28 April 2014 (UTC)
Thanks for doing monkeywork but your way is much better. Psycho Robot (talk) 20:35, 28 April 2014 (UTC)
super work on all those gallery images. you know if you gave poke a list of A->B filenames he could do that for you + save a lot of effort. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 21:28, 28 April 2014 (UTC)
I think it'd be more effort to make this list. I just have to do alt shift m and hit move, since I stole your automove js stuff. The waiting is irrelevant since I'm doing other shit in the interim. Psycho Robot (talk) 21:30, 28 April 2014 (UTC)
New piece of kit for me psycho;
  1. fill out /common.js (I've got it clicking submit now - so provided I don't mess up the file naming in the .replace block it'll be ok. It also no longer throws .js errors on non-file pages so its compatible with other active javascript.)
  2. go to gallery page
  3. show preview with
  4. use "snaplinks" (browser extension) to drag a link box around all of the links
  5. let go.
48 files moved in 2 min xD. crazy shit. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 11:31, 29 April 2014 (UTC)
If you want to confirm the naming scheme for the last bunch of arah armor, I'll move those too. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 11:41, 29 April 2014 (UTC)

aftermath

(Reset indent) ahahaha.. inb4. Do you think that pages using Armor set infobox should be in a category? if so, would it be Category:Arah armor for Accursed armor etc? -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 18:53, 29 April 2014 (UTC)

Inb4 me on the heavy gallery too. That'll show me good. I was thinking that I was going to add the dungeon armor nav templates to the bottom of each page, but first I need to make sure they're all using the same format of <dungeon name> nav. Some of them don't follow that format. And that template will put them in category arah armor. As for other armor sets, I suppose they should probably be categorized too. We could do that with karma armor nav, loot armor nav, and so forth. Psycho Robot (talk) 18:57, 29 April 2014 (UTC)
sounds good. the navs look ok to me, no redirects showing up either. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 19:04, 29 April 2014 (UTC)

Later today I'm going to give temple armor the ol psycho treatment. Can you move the images for me? Aurora for light, Rubicon for medium, and Armageddon for heavy. Psycho Robot (talk) 20:10, 1 May 2014 (UTC)
1done Can I ever.
It would be better still if I had admin rights on AWB Alex cos then I wouldn't be spamming Rc when I did that, but they don't seem to be that way inclined. I'm pretty sure I could do the move+blank bit too with the help of the rollback button also. I need to test if blanking, moving a page, and then clicking rollback triggers moving the page back to the original name, or if it just restores the content. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 20:52, 1 May 2014 (UTC)
Heritage armor's time has come. Can you move the gallery images for me? (Heritage armor/Light Heritage armor/Medium Heritage armor/Heavy) They need to be moved from, for example, Heritage armor light asura both front.jpg to Heritage armor (light) asura both front.jpg. Yeah, it's not a huge difference, I just feel that it ought to follow the standard format. Psycho Robot (talk) 21:07, 7 May 2014 (UTC)

Incredibly (Queen Jennah)

I think it's important to specify exactly how powerful being able to cast this spell makes her. According to this interview, casting a powerful spell can cause fatigue and even be a health risk, so we should take from this that Jennah is an extremely powerful individual and that should definitely be noted on her page. I guess the challenge is finding a way of saying it that doesn't sound too...editorialised? :P --Santax (talk · contribs) 10:57, 1 May 2014 (UTC)

well as long as it doesn't say "incredily" it might be ok :P
it could be "Nevertheless, Queen Jennah is an exceptionally powerful mesmer in her own right, able to..." - I think that the italics are a bit too much. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 11:27, 1 May 2014 (UTC)

(alex blundering about trying to work some ancient plans for template changes into the current conversation)
Dug up the commentary at Guild Wars 2 Wiki talk:Community portal/Archive 9#templates: "item stat", "craft table row" + "prefix attributes". - mostly irrelevant since that template update. I still think prefix attributes dumping the "Gives attribute values" outside of the subobject is wrong though.
The template I was thinking of was Template:Prefix attributes - since I don't see the point of doing the whole "Gives attribute bonus" thing, imo Prefix attributes should directly use Attribute rather than invoke Item stat (which uses → Attribute) -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 17:10, 5 May 2014 (UTC)
Property:Gives attribute bonus is a defunct property as I removed item facts from the vendor template ^^--Relyk ~ talk < 17:46, 5 May 2014 (UTC)

Why are you bringing up that infobox? It shouldn't be using prefix attributes because it shouldn't be documenting final output items. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 18:42, 5 May 2014 (UTC)
Because it is the only legitimate usage of item stat at the moment... -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 18:51, 5 May 2014 (UTC)
Ah, okay. And that's true, because gemstones/jewels follow their own strange attribute progression not based on rarity. I could try adding lookup tables for them if you want. Sooo... per Relyk's comment, I think we can simply remove the annotations from the item stat template and delete . Or is there any reason at all to keep that property anymore? —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 13:57, 6 May 2014 (UTC)
Yeah I don't think we have any need for it now. (could go the whole hog and replace all occurances of item stat with attribute... save that for another time) -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 14:24, 6 May 2014 (UTC)

Are you talking about the #set_internal function? That was an old alternative method of doing subobjects, provided by the Semantic Internal Objects extension. Just curious

You know me, a total knob when it comes to wiki mechanics - but the deletion log totally confused me. Why does it report that you deleted Heritage armor (heavy), (medium) and (light) and Template:Icon when, in fact, they're all still there? Is it some secret, only-works-by-fooling-the-system thing? I R confuse. — snogratUser Snograt signature.png 23:36, 7 May 2014 (UTC)

No problem, good question. Short answer, see Special:Log for a much clearer picture of whats going on.
I deleted Template:Icon at 22:23, and two minutes later at 22:25 I moved Template:Map icon to "Template:Icon" - it had been poorly named + we'd deleted all references to the previous version of Template:icon to facilitate this.
I deleted the Heritage armor (light)/(medium)/(heavy) pages because they were redirects sitting at the move destinations for the galleries that were previously at Heritage armor/light/medium/heavy. I was lazy and didn't feel like typing out "redirect at move destination", though you're right, I should have :P -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 23:41, 7 May 2014 (UTC)

switching subobjects off

hurrrr. You filter by the Is historical property in the actual query. You defined the variable in the first place with a query. If you want to get rid of a subobject from a query, remove the it from the page it was created on. On a related note, I added a historical parameter for the gem store vendor subobject. Maybe we should mark Gem Store/historical as a historical page so the query is the same for querying for both.--Relyk ~ talk < 15:40, 12 May 2014 (UTC)

want to tell me why the appropriate code is commented out then on this template? -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 15:42, 12 May 2014 (UTC)
Because the historical property wasn't defined for the gem store subobject, hence placeholder in the edit summary.--Relyk ~ talk < 15:44, 12 May 2014 (UTC)
To point out the obvious, why didn't you just go and fix the gem store subobject at the time >.> + then no need to comment it out in the first place. fixed with bot. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 16:14, 12 May 2014 (UTC)

You say that, but you did break the historical gem store objects because they point to Gem Store instead of Gem Store/historical. Set to {PAGENAME} instead of Gem Store for vendor as vendor list filters by historical by default. 2fast4me--Relyk ~ talk < 16:35, 12 May 2014 (UTC)

vendor table row

[2]. Like that default parameter implementation? But if the page exists, the information should be updated on the page, not fixed in the vendor table, hence why doing it that way.--Relyk ~ talk < 17:33, 20 May 2014 (UTC)

(Edit conflict) Nah that doesn't actually work as it should relyk. :D
I said that in the summary since I didn't have the item IDs for the aquabreathers and did not realise that I could just type in the name of the subobject to refer to a specific item.
  • if the page exists, then it takes blank smw properties and doesn't use the "default" parameter. (Can't use the other parameters)
  • if the page doesn't exist, then you can use the other parameters (e.g. rarity, level etc)
No way at the moment of overriding the blank smw properties for existant pages with incomplete data. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 17:39, 20 May 2014 (UTC)
response to edited comment: then we lose data if the person cba creating the page. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 17:39, 20 May 2014 (UTC)
Yup, I was just checking the aquabreathers on why you had to do that. If the page exists, you are promising it is an item with correct properties. Of course you can use the subobject name, the id query grabs the subobject name if the id is in the subobject after all. I do want to avoid using the subobject name whenever possible because new editors won't know what it's doing. We don't have a choice with karma vendor items though.
@other comment, I've thought about that too. The only people who remove vendor parameters would be experienced editors who are expected to create the pages beforehand. They will get yelled at by the editor who has to go through page history to get the information or look it up on the API. I don't think I've seen a new editor or anon remove vendor info.--Relyk ~ talk < 17:46, 20 May 2014 (UTC)

I just had the sudden thought that this is wrong and that, against all logic, recipes go on the page of the item they make, not the recipe page. Is that right or has my plot been even more lost than it ever was? (e.g. Recipe: Celestial Pearl Reaver) — snogratUser Snograt signature.png 17:29, 22 May 2014 (UTC)

Recipes are on the page of the item they create, yes. Recipe sheet pages only have a recipe if that recipe is used to make the sheet (i.e. Mystic Forge recipes for bulk/feast sheets). So everything you just did is about to be reverted. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 17:50, 22 May 2014 (UTC)

Ok, then, critique on this: Box of Celestial Draconic Armor. Anything wrong, and what else does it need? If someone could make that pretty, I can go ahead and do the bulk of the rest of celestial. Oh, that's another thing, armor boxes are listed as "bulk" at the crafting station, looks a bit naff? — snogratUser Snograt signature.png 18:08, 22 May 2014 (UTC)

Dammit Anet! you callin' me a nerd?

Honestly, I hate categories in general. They've always felt like the most useless part of a wiki to me. It doesn't help that there were some pretty silly standards in place before I got here, like placing a category-defining page (e.g. Well) only into the category it defines (e.g. Category:Well skills). That's fine, but it should also be in the parent category Category:Skill types - otherwise you're making a lot more work for anyone who just wants to look at the different skill type articles (making them drill down into each and every subcategory to get one page).

Anyway, that's just rehashing a rant I made two years ago that didn't change anything. All I care about anymore is avoiding redundancies (placing into both a parent and a child category; category-defining pages excluded, of course) and inaccuracies. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 14:35, 28 May 2014 (UTC)

"unimpress me more plz"

Regarding Grazden the Protector, I think, if you check it out, there was a page already existing for this NPC under the name Grazden the Protector, hence my copy/pasting the info from the Champion version and editing it there. I am fully aware of the move usage if there is not an existing page for a changed name. If the way it's done is different from "usual" then please tell me so that I can improve. Otherwise this particular "nub" will not learn. Thanks. --Rhynchelma (talk) 11:39, 2 June 2014 (UTC)

the existing page content was #REDIRECT Champion Grazden the Protector. The history was only that single edit: "page moved X to Y, redirect created". You can overwrite redirects created solely by the move function by simply moving pages to the intended title, and the wiki will allow you (non-admin, non-extended editor) to overwrite it.
the "unimpress" edit summary was related to the description " that page already existed" - which I, taking in good faith, assumed was correct. Then I had the hindsight to check the history and found it was a copy-paste move :P -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 11:44, 2 June 2014 (UTC)

what do you think about using numbers for availability? Easier to query with SMW since we can do ::<1 for discontinued + permanent items. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 08:56, 5 June 2014 (UTC)
I was planning for :Has availability::!Historical, which is easy enough. Numbers are harder to remember and don't make sense semantically. We could define item rarity as a number, but people won't remember what rarity has what value for example.--Relyk ~ talk < 17:54, 5 June 2014 (UTC)
True, that works if historical is the only type which you don't want to find, but I think that we also don't want to see unimplemented nor future content turning up in our queries. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 17:57, 5 June 2014 (UTC)

Locations, NPCs and SMW

Is it technically possible to do a SMW query and display the results in this format instead of typing in the locations manually. Anything location/NPC related I think it would be a good idea to do it from a query instead of statically as NPC's have been known to move and die. That and people don't check the what links here when marking things as historical. Anzenketh (talk) 19:14, 12 June 2014 (UTC)

?--Relyk ~ talk < 19:24, 12 June 2014 (UTC)

Apparently Alex did not like that format. I think that SMW query should be used for this so that is why I am asking if it is technically possible in the format he stated on the page. Anzenketh (talk)
I prefer a table because you can sort it, but people don't like that either. I don't like the location outline format and people revert back to the outline format only giving the reason that they don't like it.--Relyk ~ talk < 22:18, 12 June 2014 (UTC)

I don't see a point either. It might be nice to have the image from the guild mission screen ripped out with uMod or something, + then we could use them in the infobox, but those are pretty useless yes. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 20:46, 25 June 2014 (UTC)

As you can see from their edits, all the uploads were taken in less than an hour, with no previous edits or uploads. I noticed the files about a day after, and since then I haven't seen any new edits. Perhaps I could have asked (or should have), but the "damage" was already done. The person clearly had no deeper intentions since they just uploaded the files and then left them in the wiki abyss. --Ventriloquist (talk) 21:09, 25 June 2014 (UTC)

My suggestion would be temporary rather than permanent. The alternative would be to do or (the latter being what I use on User:Chieftain Alex/Templates/Icon replacement table (see source) -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 19:23, 7 July 2014 (UTC)

skin icons

Since the wardrobe update, all items that use a certain skin will share the skin's icon. There are a few exceptions, but the vast majority follow that rule. The icons you categorized are for skins that don't currently have any items, but I think we should categorize them as if they were item icons, just so we don't have to worry about recategorizing them if Anet ever adds items for them. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 13:45, 19 July 2014 (UTC)

I agree. I did the same thing with the Moon Shield at first the icons, in their core, are item icons. Categorizing them as skins is just going into unnecessary depth of the file. Same could be said for any skin, weapon or something else; sure they are skins, but they are primarily consumables. In my opinion, the skins category shouldn't even exist, that would just make all of the equipment icon categories redundant since every piece of equipment has a related skin in the wardrobe. --Ventriloquist 13:51, 19 July 2014 (UTC)

Icon madness

72 minutes later and 338 files later, all of the icons have been properly categorized (with a few exceptions I'm going to list). Now for the clean-up part of the job. Currently there's 80 icons:

1. Roughly 58 of those icons are files for deletion, they're awaiting for your stomp.
2. There are several race/profession icon that I'm proposing should just be user-image'd but not one-hundred percent sure. Your thoughts?
3. Skill.png needs to be edited, at least to Skill icons, since it's a special icon and I can't do it because it's protected.
4. Several wiki-only icons, such as File:Deleted Item.png or File:Game bug.png. Unsure what to do with them.
5. I added all of the overhead icons to Category:Map icons, I'm proposing that we just create another category "Overhead icons" where files such as File:Downed.png or File:Cultural armorsmith.png can go into, since they're not actual map icons - just the icons players see when approaching them.
6. The majority of the currently uncategorized skill icons should go into :Category:Costume Brawl skill icons, rather than being uncategorized in the skill category.
7. Creature icons. Specifically those made by User:Zerebruin a while ago, such as File:Barracuda Icon.png. I've come across these often, not sure how many are there or what their categorization should be.
8. Category:Trait icons needs a massive file cleanup. Basically, all files, besides the actual in-game icons in the Common trait category should either be deleted or historicalized. 2010 files shouldn't really be in that category.
9. It's possible that I've made several mistakes during my categorizing, so consumables/containers/item icons could use a second look, just a note.
10. Armor icons are in need of a heavy fix, there's plenty of duplicates which just make the category messy overall.
11. Ish and I discussed the Skin icons category, just above this post, and I feel that all of the icons there should be moved into their proper light/medium/heavy categories and that the category itself is redundant since all equips are skins, in a way.
12. Category:Gathering tool icons should be only 3 files (and the specific gem-store tools), really. I propose that all of the tool icons only use three files, either the Copper Picks/Axes/Sickles or the Orichalcum one, all of the in between are completely redundant.
13. Last but not least, duplicate files should be replaced by just one file and categorized in the correct categories, if there's more than one type.

There, I believe those are all of the issues I've come across while cleaning up, I hope the wiki feels at least a bit more pure now. --Ventriloquist 09:36, 22 July 2014 (UTC)

  1. 1Yes del: annihilated deletion candidates.
  2. 1Yes prof/race: user images should, imo, also get an ArenaNet image tag, but I suppose it doesn't matter since the sitewide license applies that anyway... I'd like to know where those were actually from. If they were from the anet site, call them icons, from videos = screenshots.
  3. 1Yes locked: We use Skill.png across the wiki and not just for skills so I don't have a problem with it living in the highest icon category level. k
  4. 1Yes bug/deleted icons: leave them there
  5. overheads: hard to tell from the perspective of someone who doesn't play the game which are which.. (most of the map not-overhead files have "map icon" in them I guess)
  6. costume brawl: mk. another time.
  7. creature icons: Dunno if those appear ingame (iirc they do?), whether we want them or not is a question for the wiki not just me :v (ugly imo)
  8. traits: -_- basically its the tier 1-13 generic icons now? Those could all move to the top category I suppose.
  9. 1Yes checking: nah everything is fine :p
  10. armor: yeah I know there are feckloads of duplicates in the armor categories. The purpose of the categories is so we can find them. Save it for a rainy day.
  11. 1Yes skins: k skins moved.
  12. gathering tools: agreed. maybe later today.
  13. duplicates: thats not a task, thats a lifetime of work!
-Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 17:45, 22 July 2014 (UTC)
5. Overhead icons are 128x textures and have a drop-shadow, map icons are 32x textures and don't have a shadow. I think we have some of the former being used in templates for the latter, unfortunately, and they should be replaced.
7. Yes, they appear in the "nameplates" when you select a creature/NPC. They're not static textures, though - or at least I've never been able to find them - so there's no easy way to extract them uniformly. (Probably could grab them with uMod, but I'm not going through that for every different creature in the game.)
8. I-XIII *and* the 8 profession-specific minor trait icons. All the others are from alpha/beta. Should probably keep them for historical interest, just recategorized.

2. Those icons (if you can call them that) are just cropped from pre-release concept art. File:Norn icon.jpg is taken from this concept art of Eir. File:Warrior icon.jpg is taken from the official warrior page and so forth. They're pretty low quality, so I can see why you thought they were found from videos.
5. Like Ish said, they're much larger than actual map icons. I've no idea what should be used with them, perhaps someone can find something worthwhile to be done with them.
7. Oooooh, I've been strongly against the creature screenshots ever since I saw that monstrosity. Basically, Zerebruin took them while the creature was targeted; which makes for a pretty LQ-unnecessary-smudgy screenshot. I see no practical use in this and it just looks messy when in the infobox.
8. I agree with Ish, they do hold a historical value, I mean just look at that sweet Drake icon. Should just be recategorized to make way for the actual in-game traits. --Ventriloquist 10:41, 23 July 2014 (UTC)
Once we decide what to do with those talk page icons, we'll be at 4 icons. Good effort. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 19:20, 23 July 2014 (UTC)

Yeah, it's me again... (family tree template)

So, while I was working on gw1:Elonian royalty family tree back in June, I realised that < and > could be very useful. The tree ended up unecessary wide without it. So I took a long look at the gw1 template, but quickly realised that was way beyond my comprehension and skill.
I managed to get it right on the gw2 template though, first try and all (*proud*). Did you convert the gw2 template over to gww in some fancy way, cause it certainly looks like something out of The Matrix :P --Titus The Third User titus the third.png 19:23, 23 July 2014 (UTC)

Yeah I remember seeing your comment in some edit summary so i added it to gww:Template:Family tree/lower cell + gww:Template:Family tree/upper cell back on the 8th of July. I don't think its exactly the same as what you added today though.
If you remember I had to make everything on the gww templates spread to the little sub-templates, but on this wiki it was alright cos we had arraymaps. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 19:47, 23 July 2014 (UTC)
ah, I'd misunderstood what you were trying to do on gww... sec -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 19:49, 23 July 2014 (UTC)
fixed gww to match the one over here. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 19:55, 23 July 2014 (UTC)
Perfect :) Thanks again. Sorry about not explaining myself properly. It was more of a note-to-self, but I just forgot about the whole thing for some time. Titus The Third User titus the third.png 21:22, 23 July 2014 (UTC)
P.S. using "left" and "right" might have been better ^^. I just saw you used "vvv" for v, so I went with that :) Titus The Third User titus the third.png 21:25, 23 July 2014 (UTC)

Come help me re-establish PvX for GW2 at [3]. I'm pushing the limits of my wiki-skills just trying to set up Build and Archive spaces, i'm probably going to break everything when we try to implement ratings pages. DO EEET.--TahiriVeila (talk) 23:55, 23 July 2014 (UTC)

I won't be helping, I don't gw2, and I have no experience on backend mw. Try relyk?
get #arraymap from there... makes everything easier to wikicode. (particularly the build classification/rating template) I expect you can install that separately by cramming it in the other parser functions file. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 00:33, 24 July 2014 (UTC)
Boo you suck. I'll try relyk, or maybe phen. Any idea how to get in touch with phen? ^___^--TahiriVeila (talk) 00:36, 24 July 2014 (UTC)
sorry I always thought phen was a tit. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 00:50, 24 July 2014 (UTC)
Well so did everyone, but he was the only one who was any good at the mediawiki shit ^___^ Maybe Toraen will help.--TahiriVeila (talk) 00:52, 24 July 2014 (UTC)
Phen is on this wiki but I doubt he will help considering his comment on MetaBattle. poke | talk 12:02, 24 July 2014 (UTC)
Yeah I expected that, he was one of our admins on PvX arguing againt making a PvX2. I think a wiki site has plenty of potential, but it needs a lot of support to get more user-friendly templates + things like mouseover skill descriptions set up. There isn't any way we could get you to help out with that, is there poke? ^____^--TahiriVeila (talk) 13:50, 24 July 2014 (UTC)
Sorry, but I’m kind of on Phen’s side. The comment below his on reddit is mine (my username there is Xiara); I don’t really see a future for MetaBattle. poke | talk 13:59, 24 July 2014 (UTC)
I'm sure my interest will die quickly, but hey what the hell am I doing this evening anyway. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 20:57, 24 July 2014 (UTC)

File madness P2

Since all of the icons are mostly done, I was wondering if I could take a jab at some of the Unused Files? I won't touch any of the User images, just the icons/screenshots of NPCs, maps and so forth that have been unused for quite some time now. If I remember correctly, this was one of your giant projects, so I'd like to at least make it a bit easier when/if you continue, plus I really enjoy cleaning these, for some reason. --Ventriloquist 00:44, 24 July 2014 (UTC)

Its a complete ---- to extract a decent list from the unused files special page, as such I haven't updated the lists in ages. Guild Wars 2 Wiki:Projects/Orphaned files. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 00:53, 24 July 2014 (UTC)
True, I was thinking of starting off small (Getting rid of duplicates, LQ versions, redundancy etc) then working off of the lists you've created. I realize it's a...hefty list, but oddly enough, I enjoy it and it wouldn't be a hassle for me to go through them. Are those lists on the page final or should more be created depending on the rest of the files? --Ventriloquist 01:00, 24 July 2014 (UTC)

Challenge for you and your template/coding skills...

Wardrobe tracker, like you have for miniatures. I think gw2wardrobe.com has the correct groupings, icons, and icon orders for armor and weapons...though I'd have to confirm, but the outfits are missing. It'd be huge and unwieldy, but neat. I tried starting to build one myself...then was reminded that my wiki coding skills suck beyond basics...just like my non-wiki coding skills. Vahkris (talk) 20:35, 31 July 2014 (UTC)

"icon order" - there is a sequence ingame then? :/ I added that parameter to the miniature infoboxes ye. I guess if that site is accurate, then I could create some parameters -_- (slow manual work though)
the main problem (I have thought of this before wierdly) is that the skins don't have icons associated with them... except since last time I've added some more smw properties. I'll have a go and see what turns up eh.
derp missed completely that you wanted this to be a user template :P -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 21:48, 31 July 2014 (UTC)
I'm sure that you noticed how slow that site was to respond. Well the wiki is even slower + produces web errors when pressing submit. I don't really think it will be able to accept parameters but I'll try and simplify it to enable that. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 22:35, 31 July 2014 (UTC)
*looks at above* *looks at Wardrobe template WIP page* Oh god, what have I started... Vahkris (talk) 14:02, 1 August 2014 (UTC)
And by icon order, it seems to be just alphabetical... Vahkris (talk) 14:29, 1 August 2014 (UTC)
Yes, the in-game order is alphabetical, no special sequencing required. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 14:37, 1 August 2014 (UTC)
