"Fear Not This Night" is a song that can be heard at certain points of the Guild Wars 2 Story, including the end credits that appear at the end of the last instance of Victory or Death. An anthem of the sylvari, it is a song of hope sung by the Pale Tree and is symbolic of the hero's journey to defend Tyria from the threat of the Elder Dragons.[1]
Like all other songs composed before release, "Fear Not This Night" was composed and produced by Jeremy Soule. The lyrics were written by Jeremy Soule and Ree Soesbee, and the vocals were performed by Asja Kadrić.
Lyrics[edit]
- Fear not this night
- You will not go astray
- Though shadows fall
- Still the stars find their way
- Awaken from a quiet sleep
- Hear the whispering of the wind
- Awaken as the silence grows
- In a solitude of the night
- Darkness spreads through all the land
- And your weary eyes open silently
- Sunsets have forsaken all
- The most far off horizons
- Nightmares come when shadows grow
- Eyes close and heartbeats slow
- Fear not this night
- You will not go astray
- Though shadows fall
- Still the stars find their way
- And you can always be strong
- Lift your voice with the first light of dawn
- Dawn's just a heartbeat away
- Hope's just a sunrise away
- Distant sounds of melodies
- Calling through the night to your heart
- Auroras, mists, and echoes dance
- In the solitude of our life
- Pleadings heard in arias
- Gently grieving in captive misery
- Darkness sings a forlorn song
- Yet our hope can still rise up
- Nightmares come when shadows roam
- Lift your voice, lift your hope
- Fear not this night
- You will not go astray
- Though shadows fall
- Still the stars find their way
- And though the night sky's filled with blackness
- Fear not, rise up, call out and take my hand
- Fear not this night
- You will not go astray
- Though shadows fall (Still the stars find their way)
- Fear not this night
- You will not go astray
- Though shadows fall (Still the stars find their way)
- And you can always be strong
- Lift your voice with the first light of dawn
- Dawn's just a heartbeat away
- Hope's just a sunrise away

Trivia[edit]
- Instrumental variants of the song play, among other things, in the Omphalos Chamber in The Grove and during a pivotal moment in The Source of Orr mission. The theme's instrumental version is briefly referred to during the Pale Tree's Vision cinematic which is played at the end of The World Summit chapter of Living World Season 2. It was also played during Hearts and Minds in Heart of Thorns.
- The trailer for A Bug in the System, the second episode for Living World Season 4, featured a short, foreboding "Joko" arrangement of "Fear Not This Night" with slightly altered lyrics. Maclaine Diemer both arranged the piece and provided the vocals for it while Tom Abernathy provided the altered line for the lyrics.[2][3][4] On May 4, the full version of the song was released.[5]
- A third version of the song called "Fer Naw This Evenin by The Soggy Joko Brothers" was also released on May 4.[6] According to the official Twitter, "Sometimes things can go in a very, very different direction before they’re final.",[7] indicating that this was likely an alternative version created before the 2018 "Joko" arrangement was created. The creation of this version was discussed in Guild Chat - Episode 63.
- The "Fer Naw This Evenin by The Soggy Joko Brothers" music video features Audio Team members Chris Burgess, Drew Cady, Katelyn Isaacson and Joseph Clark singing and playing instruments with a special appearance of a Gourdon plushie.
