Interwiki'ing[edit]

Thank you so much for helping to connect the various language versions of the wiki pages! Keep up the wonderful work! —Jyavoc 16:37, 16 April 2013 (UTC)

Yeah, but you may want to double check for errors while I'm cleaning up after you :P --zeeZUser ZeeZ Sig.png (talk) 07:49, 29 July 2013 (UTC)
What errors? I'm just copying the interwiki-links from the german wiki to the english one (and from eng to ger) Some links were done with the item-API from ANet. I'm just asking what the errors were because I haven't been on for a week and can't remember which pages I edited last time ^^ I don't want to link wrong pages and don't want to give you more work cleaning up after me ;) --Cloned (talk) 07:02, 5 August 2013 (UTC)

Sovereign Greatbow Skin[edit]

you accidentally the interwiki--Relyk ~ talk < 07:53, 14 August 2013 (UTC)

Thank you for the info, I added the correct link ;) Sometimes the copy doesn't work (or maybe I'm pressing the buttons too fast, idk)... Happened some times to me now but I also noticed many of them on my own and corrected them. I don't like it when this happens either, I'm sorry for everytime this happens! --Cloned (talk) 08:05, 14 August 2013 (UTC)
Should put a section on your user page to flag links for you to repair, that way you can make everyone else check your edits :D--Relyk ~ talk < 08:24, 14 August 2013 (UTC)
Sounds like a good idea, but how do I do this? I really don't have a clue :-) --Cloned (talk) 08:32, 14 August 2013 (UTC)
It's literally a section on your user page telling people to post any interwiki links that are broken or incorrect.--Relyk ~ talk < 08:42, 14 August 2013 (UTC)
Oh a simple solution ;-) But I thought of another (better) solution: I wrote my own user-Javascript that checks for english language links on the english wiki (and german in the german wiki) so that I won't submit wrong interwiki links anymore. If you (or anyone else) notices some wrong links in future edits, tell me, so that I may fix the script. --Cloned (talk) 11:37, 14 August 2013 (UTC)

Image tags[edit]

Hey there. I've been thinking about asking you for a while but I haven't - could you please pick the license option for screenshots from the dropdown menu when uploading images taken ingame? thanks. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 23:29, 30 October 2013 (UTC)

Hey, thanks for the info. Of course, I'll do this. Don't know why I didn't do it before, somehow I thought that this was the standard when uploading an image but I never checked... So this is completely my fault, I'll definitely do this better the next time I upload images. --Cloned (talk) 06:55, 31 October 2013 (UTC)

Petri Dish Delight[edit]

Fairly sure the language link is wrong, it seems to be seller's. OTOH I may well be wrong. --Claret (talk) 19:38, 26 January 2014 (UTC)

You are not wrong, you are right. This was indeed the link to the seller. I fixed it now, thank you! --Cloned (talk) 07:58, 28 January 2014 (UTC)

Instant Trait Reset[edit]

"3 days ago" would place your drop just prior to Friday's update. So you probably received one of the last ones ever to come out of a BL chest, congrats! —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 13:13, 24 March 2014 (UTC)

Oh thank you, didn't notice this update. Sorry for editing the wrong stuff and thanks for correcting me :) --Cloned (talk) 06:27, 25 March 2014 (UTC)
You do an awesome job with the interlanguage links and everything, you're allowed a minor flub every now and then. ;) —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 12:18, 25 March 2014 (UTC)

Krytan Speargun[edit]

Why did you upload over my version of File:Krytan Speargun.jpg with a version that's mostly the same? I ask not because I am petty or territorial, but because I genuinely want to know if you think I could be doing something better. Psycho Robot (talk) 18:27, 7 April 2014 (UTC)

Sorry this comes from the german wiki :) In the german wiki the rule is that no distracting stuff should be seen other than the weapon itself. That way no armour distracts from the view of the weapons. I know that there is no such rule on the english wiki but sometimes when I'm crosschecking for better pictures (I copy pictures from here to german wiki if they are better and the other way round) it can happen that I overwrite pictures such as yours. So sorry if this happens, I don't want to start a war about pictures and I won't revert a picture I upload if someone overwrites one of my (mostly they are not my pictures, they are just from the other wikis) pictures. ;-) Keep up your good work of adding pictures, they are way better than the preview-window pictures. I hope you can understand what I mean. And if you look at the german wiki you can find some of your pictures there.
One good example why the armour with weapons is not good is File:Incinerator.jpg: I don't own one and I don't know if this flame-stuff on the hand is coming from the armor or from the weapon. --Cloned (talk) 07:07, 8 April 2014 (UTC)
In this case, I think the brighter lighting on the prior version makes it a better image. I don't think the character's armor is distracting at all since it's dyed a neutral gray color. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 12:27, 8 April 2014 (UTC)
Then you can revert my upload, I have no problem with this. I'll try and be more careful with the images I upload, I don't want to anger anyone. I was just too used to the german restrictions/rules that I forgot you are not so strict here :) So sorry and I will be more careful in the future. --Cloned (talk) 13:00, 8 April 2014 (UTC)
I ain't even mad. I was just wondering what the rationale was and if there was something stupid in my version that I wasn't seeing. P.S. the fiery bits in the incinerator picture that you mentioned are part of the weapon's graphic properties. I do realise that armor can be distracting and take steps to minimize it when I can. If an image I upload does have distracting glowy armor, its because that was some random player who happened to be standing there, and I took a screenshot of them as they were. It's better than having a preview panel image, even if its not ideal. Psycho Robot (talk) 17:08, 8 April 2014 (UTC)

--Cloned (talk) 09:00, 23 June 2016 (UTC)

Re: Good pictures?[edit]

Sorry lol I'm new and confused, I can take new pictures if you'd like, do you have a nice bright place you can recommend? I just chose the guild hall because it's easy to use pumpkins for scale. Eggbug (talk) 15:43, 27 June 2016 (UTC)

Removing Metadata from Pictures[edit]

I'm wondering how you do that. It seems useful. - Doodleplex 21:33, 20 July 2016 (UTC)

In the german wiki all images should be without metadata, that's why I learned how to do it. It is really simple with Irfanview. If you open an image with Irfanview first press Shift + J or select "Options -> Image Lossless Rotation" (sorry, I only have the german version, there it is called Optionen -> JPG Verlustfreie Rotation. Then Press Alt + L or select "Clear all APP Marker" ("Alle APP-Marker löschen" in german) and hit Enter (Or "Start" ... "Starten" in german). After this two steps metadata is gone, no need to resave the image. Just close Irfanview or open another picture, whatever. If you resave the image you may add more Metadata back. It's also possible to remove it with other programs but I found this to be the fastest. --Cloned (talk) 06:01, 21 July 2016 (UTC)
Edit: This only works with jpg, for png there is png-stripper but I don't like this program very much it takes some tries until it removes everything from png-files. But since most of the images are jpg, irfanview is the way to go ;) --Cloned (talk) 06:02, 21 July 2016 (UTC)

Event interwikis[edit]

Hey Cloned, I was wondering where you were getting the interwikis for all of those events. Is there a source? Or are you just pulling them yourself off of the API? G R E E N E R 17:24, 22 August 2016 (UTC)

Hey Greener, I made my own source ;) I took this API Endpoint and wrote a little html (and js of course) page to get all events in all languages. If I have the time I will also do this with the map-api. I'm not hosting this anywhere, it's just a local file. If there is demand I could put it in the wiki, but it's not very pretty or something. No filtering (meaning, many events are multiple times in the list, list is not sorted at all,...) --Cloned (talk) 05:30, 23 August 2016 (UTC)
Ah, gotcha, thanks for the info. No need to worry about hosting it, unless you're looking for additional slave labour. G R E E N E R 07:56, 23 August 2016 (UTC)

Localization updates[edit]

Hey Cloned, were you using a particular method to see if an item's name has been updated? If you've found a method to do so, let me know and I may be able to help from time to time. G R E E N E R 17:20, 12 October 2016 (UTC)

Hey, unfortunately I don't know a method to do so. I knew about all the ascended stuff (from a few weeks ago) because the sites in the wiki didn't match the items ingame (and once I checked a couple of items and noticed a pattern I realized most of them got renamed). With all the new stuff from the last few days, Darthmain on the german wiki compiled a list of renamed items for 2015. Don't know if he will do a new list, but I doubt it. How he did it: He stored a dump of all the items and then compared it to a newer version and listed all the differences. --Cloned (talk) 05:55, 13 October 2016 (UTC)
Ugh. Alright, thanks for letting me know. G R E E N E R 17:26, 13 October 2016 (UTC)
One my favorite sites, www.gw2services.com, used to track new items entering the API and would repost an item that had any data changed. You had to figure out what had changed on your own, but you would know to look. They've been defunct for a while now, though. SarielV 20 x 20px 15:25, 19 January 2017 (UTC)
That may not be true any more... ironically they have listed a recipe without the NoSell tag whose value we don't have recorded ;D SarielV 20 x 20px 15:31, 19 January 2017 (UTC)

User page[edit]

With all the interwikis you do, I'm really surprised you don't have an interwiki for your user page... just saying. -Darqam (talk) 13:42, 19 October 2016 (UTC)

Haha never thought about it, just added it. Thanks for the idea. Didn't think it would work (but why wouldn't it) --Cloned (talk) 13:51, 19 October 2016 (UTC)
I'm glad it worked, fits nicely! And now for a completely off-topic question. That new event interwiki page you have, would it help at all if it was hosted on a webpage? If you want I could throw it up on http://mymeanderingmind.com/GW2W_Easy_Mode/ with a header pointing to your user page as creator of it. If it doesn't help, forget about it; if it does it would take me virtually no time to do. Up to you. -Darqam (talk) 13:56, 19 October 2016 (UTC)
Yes, you can put it up, but maybe add some info text (like on my page), because I never really tested it for errors. But apart from making many api-calls nothing should happen. And if someone would like to make a couple of api-calls at once there are better ways to achieve this. If the site should get more traffic, I could also expand it (to make a selection to the preferred language maybe?) .... And if you host it, maybe change the default output from german to english (If you don't exactly know how, I can tell in more detail). --Cloned (talk) 14:05, 19 October 2016 (UTC)
Ok it's up at http://mymeanderingmind.com/GW2W_Easy_Mode/event_interwikis.html. Changes I've made:
* Slight CSS change so interwiki boxes would not overlap top disclaimer.
* Changed all instances of "Englisch" to "English".
* Made English the default lookup instead of German.
* Also (obviously) added that block of text at the top from your initial page (with minor tweeks).
I hope this is alright. As for the site getting more traffic, I honestly don't think that will be much the case given that the only purpose for it is to make certain parts of wiki editing easier, and there just aren't that many people that could make use of it. That said, if you want to ever update it, I am more than happy to comply. -Darqam (talk) 15:43, 19 October 2016 (UTC)
Thank you so much! :-) --Cloned (talk) 17:36, 19 October 2016 (UTC)
And I found the first bug and a minor inconvenience. I'll list the change here (and also add them to my userpage-code-site). First (this is not the bug), the "Clear LocalStorage" button should also clear the list to indicate that it's gone: <button onclick="javascript:localStorage.clear();$('#test1').empty();"> Clear List</button> (i also changed the wording from clear LogalStorage to clear list). Now to the bug: after the GW2.EventNames = function(){ Part, set variable i again, so that it acutally builds the list when you click the button: Add i = LANGUAGES.length - 1; (Would be line 73 on your server). If you don't see it here I'll post it to your userpage too in a couple of days. --Cloned (talk) 06:34, 20 October 2016 (UTC)
Done. I've also added your project page to my watchlist, so hopefully I catch any changes. -Darqam (talk) 13:28, 20 October 2016 (UTC)

Recipe values[edit]

Before I go plowing through your current project, I was curious if we are now posting vendor values for things that cannot be sold. In the past, no "value" value was supplied for these because it didn't apply. SarielV 20 x 20px 15:43, 18 January 2017 (UTC)

It's not really a project (yet) because it's tedious and takes some time :D I have added the value from the API, but should I stop this? I added the value here or there on some point but only did it this week with more recipes. Only because I'm going through the recipes in the german wiki and this is more of a byproduct. Is there any way to see from the api (or somewhere else) if the value is relevant? --Cloned (talk) 16:58, 18 January 2017 (UTC)
If the item can't be sold it has the "NoSell" flag. So that means even though it has a value, you can't sell it to merchants. The consensus on the wiki (so far?) has been to not list values of NoSell items to avoid confusion I believe.-Darqam 17:00, 18 January 2017 (UTC)
You learn something new every day. Even after 4 years of playing (ok the api isn't that old ;) ). Didn't know about the dontsell-flag. Ok I'll go over my edits tomorrow and fix them. Thanks for letting me know before I add many more useless prices. Thanks for letting me know! --Cloned (talk) 17:03, 18 January 2017 (UTC)
In particular, I had to remove the value of Ponder the World because this item is being added to Astralaria I: The Device collection automatically and never appears in the inventory, so it cannot be used or sold in any way. It looks like you have added the values to all items in this collection at once, which was a mistake. --109.252.108.239 09:25, 22 July 2017 (UTC)
I hoped that I reverted all changes regarding the nosell-items. Sorry if I missed some :/ But yes, if I added the value, I propably added it to all the items in a collection. Sorry again for everything! --Cloned (talk) 11:25, 26 July 2017 (UTC)

Out of sight and out of mind[edit]

Heya, if seeing that page is really an eye-sore on you, you can try adding `$('a[title="User talk:Serge Yseron‎"]').closest('tr').addClass('hide');` to your User:Cloned/common.js. I did a similar test with the page Pointy Stick here. Doesn't make it go away, but you'll never see the page in RC. -Darqam 16:12, 3 April 2017 (UTC)

Great idea, I'll add this. Just not in my common-js, I have my own, local javascript file. Just added this to avoid confusion on why my common.js file will always be empty. --Cloned (talk) 08:45, 4 April 2017 (UTC)
