Alright, now it isn't just a carbon copy of the ninja jungle timer, where can I link this prominently from? Quick links? -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 18:14, 18 November 2015 (UTC)
As the original author of the jungle timer, I'm cool with usage on the wiki btw. Happy to re-license the code as GNUx/MIT/CC/etc if required. -- Fam (talk) 18:43, 18 November 2015 (UTC)
I mainly wanted to see if I could get the local time working properly. It is a lovely representation of the event system so a big thanks to you two for putting the excellent base code together on the ninja and fiddle. -86.137.119.202 23:18, 18 November 2015 (UTC)
Next step is to see if I can shoehorn the world boss data into this too. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 18:01, 19 November 2015 (UTC)
That was the first thing I thought of after you created this. Although, I seem to remember there was some reason I thought it wouldn't work (which of course I can't remember now), which is why I never bothered to mention it. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 18:24, 19 November 2015 (UTC)
Dude. Too awesome. You get a sitenotice. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 17:22, 22 November 2015 (UTC)
High praise, thanks! Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 23:31, 22 November 2015 (UTC)

Flip the current time tab once it reaches the edge so it doesn't bleed off the screen.--Relyk ~ talk < 08:36, 23 November 2015 (UTC)

Parameterize the current time in the widget, have query form [[Form:Event timer]] with button that displays +2 hours, stick it at the top of the template.--Relyk ~ talk < 20:53, 23 November 2015 (UTC)

Version 2[edit]

Hi guys, I've created an updated version with a checkbox that users can set to determine whether the timer starts with an even hour or not.

If anyone feels like taking a look, its at "User:Chieftain Alex/sandbox4" (it uses "Widget:Event timer test").

The checkbox is in a section on its own immediately below the timers. If you view it during an odd UTC hour, then you can change the appearance by toggling the checkbox underneath - the page will reload if the hour is odd + the checkbox state changes. The timer will retain the information on whether you want to start with an even hour or not using your HTML5 localStorage + this persists between browsing sessions but should be deleted when you clean your cookies etc. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 18:48, 13 February 2016 (UTC)

For me, this is one of those cases where I never knew there was a problem until it was fixed. I'm all for fancy buttons etc., and I've always thought this page is slick (I use it all the time), but is the checkbox there to help people do mental math more easily? Or is there something else I'm missing? (Curious just because teaching/learning/thinking techniques are my passion). G R E E N E R 20:06, 13 February 2016 (UTC)
Well I had an email from stephane asking whether I'd be ok with sharing it with the other wikis (of course...), and this paragraph was at the bottom of it:
"I have a question about it: when I (and a few other people here) look at the page, the “red line” for the current time is on the right-side of the page, so it shows more past events and less future ones (even after reloading the page). Is this normal and is this something that can be changed (to be able to see more future events, or even adjust the timescale as needed?)?"
I'm pretty used to it being a two hour cycle and I expect the event bars to be in the same place every time I visit this page - but I admit that it seems stupid to have 50% of the page for expired content. Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 21:00, 13 February 2016 (UTC)
Ah! Gotcha. Perhaps renaming the checkbox to something like "Toggle start time" or the like? Something which indicates the benefit for the user if they check the box or not? Something better than my quick suggestion, hopefully. 96.48.126.129 22:26, 13 February 2016 (UTC)

Names[edit]

Simple question, which originated from "Why is the Auric Basin timer called pillars?" Shouldn't the names on the timer for the Auric Basin and Tangled depth events be the same as their meta names so those can be turned into links and clicked on for more info like the world bosses? Verdant Brink couldn't hurt to be linked to it's map meta events either. Just curious if that can be done, as I think it'd be helpful and I have no idea how to do it myself. - Doodleplex 23:23, 6 April 2016 (UTC)

I'm fine with wikilinking the sections to the corresponding map meta event sections.--Relyk ~ talk < 00:38, 7 April 2016 (UTC)
Last time this was raised I didn't link the meta names to articles because the meta articles were very weak. Would you be able to list exactly which meta/map events you want linked from each bar, then I can think about doing it when I get back from work. I have renamed "Pillars" to "Pylons" though, I think that is just a translation issue from the original ninja timer. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 06:09, 7 April 2016 (UTC)
We can once our articles have appropriate sections I think.--Relyk ~ talk < 14:26, 7 April 2016 (UTC)
I worked on a template for the map meta pages which I hope will be able to flesh them out more so they can be linked in the event timer. See my last comment here with the examples. - Doodleplex 23:54, 7 April 2016 (UTC)
My current proposal would be to link to the map meta section on each of the zone pages, since those are looking fairly fleshed out imo. Example: link "Pylons" to Auric Basin#Defending Tarir. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 06:21, 8 April 2016 (UTC)
I think we need to figure out the templates for the map meta event and link it to those, as it keeps it consistent due to the events in Dry Top getting linked to the meta event and not the Dry Top page. Not to mention the reset period A Moment's Rest isn't linked on that page and the "Canopy boss fights/Night Bosses" doesn't have it's own section either and I have no idea about the prep period before the Chak Gerent, I didn't even know that was a period of time, but then again I haven't spent much time in Tangled Depths either so, I think figuring out the map meta page template will solve this one(or so I hope). - Doodleplex 20:21, 11 April 2016 (UTC)

(Reset indent) All map meta event pages have been fleshed out. Can they be linked now to the Event Timer? Also not sure how Bloodstone Fen works entirely but it does seem to have a day and night cycle, can that be added or is it not possible? - Doodleplex 23:36, 22 August 2016 (UTC)

I know the nighttime is shared with Verdant Brink, but I don't think the other two metas have a timer - rifts are ongoing and jades depend on IP, as far as I know. —Ventriloquist 23:41, 22 August 2016 (UTC)

Ley-Line Anomaly[edit]

Any way the ley-line anomalies could be added to this? The preceding unsigned comment was added by 76.104.212.162 (talk) at 05:21, 16 September 2016‎ (UTC).

Late response but done thanks to Whowantblood's comment + times. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 18:02, 25 October 2016 (UTC)

Dragon's Stand timer[edit]

The Dragons Stand timer could use some labeling in compact mode, probably could just name it 'Dragon Stand Start' --Ruby437 (talk) 19:15, 31 December 2017 (UTC)

Whilst I agree "Start" is ambiguous, I don't like the idea of putting the name of the zone in the bar - none of the others have this. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 19:29, 13 January 2018 (UTC)

Domain of Istan Events[edit]

moved from Widget talk:Event timer

Event timers for Domain of Istan would be nice, should be uneven hours XX:40 for Palawan and even hours XX:15 for Great hall The preceding unsigned comment was added by Ruby437 (talk) at 17:32, 13 January 2018‎ (UTC).

Try and keep suggestions in one place. I've seen this suggestion before, and whilst we can add the Palawadan event, which has timings we are certain of, the Great Hall event has been requested with several different times, making me think we're not sure about the time of it. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 19:29, 13 January 2018 (UTC)
The GH event starts every hour at xx:20 and has a duration of 15 minutes (it is possible to start it outside of that schedule though - earlier). The Palawadan event takes place every hour, too - depending on the map state. --Smiley™ de: user | talk 10:34, 25 January 2019 (UTC)

Thunderkeep metas[edit]

moved from Widget talk:Event timer

I do not have permissions to edit this widget, so: - both Thunderkeep metas start 45 minutes past full hour; - Thunderhead Keep occurs at odd hours (server time); - The Oil Floes occurs at even hours (server time). ❄The F. Prince❄ (talk) 21:18, 9 January 2019 (UTC)

See Talk:Event timers#Request_for_addition_of_Thunderhead_Peaks_metas for the durations, waypoints and meta page names (Thunderhead Keep is a map region and a meta so I assume map region takes priority for disambiguation) Fam (talk) 21:38, 9 January 2019 (UTC)
Yes, it does. I sent the above comment before I added meta page to the nav. ❄The F. Prince❄ (talk) 08:41, 10 January 2019 (UTC)

a request to improve a function[edit]

moved from Widget talk:Event timer

Hello, I'd like to request a function to improve. I often use the Compact View option, which makes it shortened with blowing up all map name lines. but sometimes I found myself out that I forgot where they were since I blew up all names.(I know I just could bring a wp link to the chat.) I believe there will be some people like me. I'd like to explain what I want to suggest now. When we bring a cursor on a timer, a tooltip message appears (ex: 2:15 PM - Death-breaded Shatterer). If a map name appears at the tooltip as well, We'll be really good to identify them. (ex: Jahai Bluff \n 2:15 PM - Death-breaded Shatterer). Thank you for reading. --Targal (talk) 05:43, 14 April 2019 (UTC)

Done, thanks for the suggestion. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 07:59, 14 April 2019 (UTC)
This is really cool! Thank you! --Targal (talk) 14:17, 16 April 2019 (UTC)

Verdant Brink use [&BPUHAAA=], which is actually WP frorm Tangled Depth The preceding unsigned comment was added by Avalon.6893 (talk) at 12:01, 30 June 2019‎ (UTC).

Excluding from search results[edit]

What do you think is the best method to exclude the contents of the script tag from appearing in the search index? Where should we put this: class="navigation-not-searchable" (help docs). In a span element? In this template? In the widget itself? -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 06:32, 20 September 2021 (UTC)

Seems like it's appearing because those pages are transcluding this template. So either in this template or the widget itself would work? Probably in the widget would be better because the code is in the widget? --BuffsEverywhere (talk) 11:22, 13 October 2021 (UTC)
I had forgotten about this, thanks for the prompt. Just tested by adding in a span on the template (with the class around the widget), and the search results appear the same atm (weird). I will wait a few hours and see if Crystal Oasis vanishes from the search results. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 18:19, 13 October 2021 (UTC)
I'd like to point out that having the widget sourcecode be searchable is helpfull to e.g. find things one missed to replace. So if this when placed inside of the widget itself excludes it from the search then i'm not in support of adding the tag in the widget source. If that's the case then adding it inside of the widgets asociated template would seem to make more sense to me.
Also, are search results found for chat code searches that usually auto redirect and aren't visible anyways unless you opt to go back to the page before the redirect at all relevant? I'm having a hard time trying to think of a usecase where someone searching the wiki for a chat code would opt to go back in their browser history even though they've already been redirected to the page associated with the chat code they're probably looking for. Suggestion for audio prompt[edit]

Per discord: "Would it be feasible to add sound notifications for events." I assume they were referring to this widget, but could also have been for the other boss countdown timer. Another user provided a link to HTMLAudioElement/Audio as a potential method.

Things to think about:

  • When would it trigger? Every 15 minutes? Specific event bars? All event bar transitions? Only non-reset event states?
  • What audio clip would play? Where would it be hosted?
  • How would users choose whether or not to have audio - presumably a checkbox at the bottom combined with a speaker icon on each row or something.

-Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 20:54, 15 October 2021 (UTC)

It's a good idea.
  • Perhaps options to trigger at 15 minutes prior, 5 minutes prior, and at event start? Some events require you to be early or the map will be full.
  • Are there any sounds that don't require hosting a clip? Like making the browser beep? Would it work with mobile devices?
  • I agree with that.
--BuffsEverywhere (talk) 23:13, 15 October 2021 (UTC)
  • Only during none reset event states sounds good to me. Not sure about how much prior or not though.
  • I'm not sure about what sound would play but it could be hosted on the wiki. Simply data url it into the widget source. So really anything could be used, as long as it's not to large of a file probably, to keep the data url somewhat manageably short, and it's wiki licence/term compatible. And i don't see why it wouldn't work on mobile.
  • Sounds good, though it might need more than one icon for each row or alternatively at the end to chose how far prior to start if that is something that ends up being included. Also, volume might not hurt to include as a setting as well. Nightsky (talk) 04:17, 16 October 2021 (UTC)
