Talk:List of pet locations

why?[edit]

Seriously, the intent behind this page is somewhat ridiculous. Who really cares that you can charm a brown bear in Fields of Ruin when you can get one much more easily in Wayfarer Foothills, not a minute's walk from Hoelbrak? The Juvenile Brown Bear page already lists all the possible locations, there's no need to combine all that info for all pets on a single page. Pet/Locations is already good enough for telling people the easiest place to find each pet. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 22:26, 27 December 2012 (UTC)

Some may find it useful, not me but some might. There are very many duplication/triplications and more of all sorts of information throughout the wiki that I can't for the life of me see the point of but obviously someone does. Where you draw the line is difficult. Bernardus 23:12, 27 December 2012 (UTC)
This page is an infodump overload, any utility it might have had was lost when the author copy/pasted the Location section from every single pet onto it. No one needs to see all of this info at once, it's pointless. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 01:48, 28 December 2012 (UTC)
I don't feel this article is superfluous per say. However, the redundancy of the individual headers in comparison to the big, much cleaner table is something that I feel should be addressed to make it a valuable article (for ranger players). I have often found myself wondering why I would have to navigate to the individual pet articles to find their locations, while a single article makes so much more sense (we have skill lists, trait lists, so why not pet lists, was my reasoning). - Infinite - talk 11:30, 28 December 2012 (UTC)
Pets appear in multiple locations and levels and have different families, that makes it much different to list. I'd rather have this page list the most accessible location for each pet as if it were a checklist, then have the area pages handle the pets that exist in those areas. Anything else won't be nearly as useful to players. I would say make another article and grab the pet lists from zones and list all the pets by zone (which are listed by area), so someone can grab all the animals in a given zone.--Relyk Christmas sig.jpg talk 11:54, 28 December 2012 (UTC)
The table here was originally copied from the one I made a long time ago at Pet/Locations, which did focus on "the most accessible location for each pet". —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 15:55, 28 December 2012 (UTC)
Just expand that table to be all-inclusive then, and we can redirect this page to it (maybe). - Infinite - talk 20:08, 28 December 2012 (UTC)
I made this page in regards that you can sort the table by location so that if you can charm multiple pets within the same location. Also it is fast to navigate to each you want. I am also going to eventually add pictures to it in gallery format so it is much easier to find each pet. As well Pet/Locations does not find the most accessible locations for each pet based on the fact that several of the pets in that table are much easier to get via Lion's Arch. Saves people money when they do not have to Way point all over the place when they can just find one closer.Suddenflame123 02:21, 8 January 2013 (UTC)
This page is VERY useful to those of us wanting to quickly acquire all available pets in a particular zone... the reason it is more useful than the other page(s) is the ability to sort by zone. I can go to a zone, come to this page, sort by zones and quickly see every pet I can tame in that zone. In this way I can acquire every pet in that zone in under 5 minutes assuming the zone is already explored. All of the negative comments about this page assume that a player first decides which ONE pet s/he wants to tame, then looks up that ONE pet and goes after it. For that methodology, the other pages cited are as well or better suited. But for the "I don't care which pets I get today, I want all of them in this zone that I'm currently exploring" this page is indispensable. HoggyDog (talk) 18:39, 28 August 2014 (UTC)
Which pets, specifically, can be found in LA that are not listed there? Krytan Drakehound and Pig are listed as DR, sure, but if you can get to LA, you can get to all other cities with very little effort. If there is a more accessible location for a pet than is listed there, that's perfectly acceptable to change. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 03:04, 8 January 2013 (UTC)

Pet and locations[edit]

Celebration for over 10,000 views of this article.

It seems to me so far that i am the only one adding to the list (with pictures and new locations). If anyone finds any new pet locations please add them into the list or place them in the talk so i can do it.

Side note: There is some such of the river drake that appear in the borderlands but are hostile. Since i already have them i can not determine if these hostile ones are charmable. If they are charmable please leave a message to me here about it so i can write it into the proper locations. Suddenflame123 01:35, 1 February 2013 (UTC)

Hostile creatures are never charmable, charmable creatures are never hostile. It's mutually exclusive. And all charmable creatures are "juvenile". —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 02:29, 1 February 2013 (UTC)
That would be true expect that in the Borderlands there is a hostile juvenile river drake and a hostile juvenile forest spider. As well there is a white lvl75 juvenile blue jellyfish. Suddenflame123 03:54, 1 February 2013 (UTC)
I created a new ranger character and checked it out. The juvenile river drake that is hostile in WvW borderlands is indeed charmable along with the juvenile blue jellyfish that is white. Suddenflame123 04:01, 1 February 2013 (UTC)
Have I mentioned how much I hate Anet's inconsistency? —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 04:15, 1 February 2013 (UTC)
LOL well i got the pictures up along with location of them now i just need to place anomaly signs for them. Suddenflame123 04:17, 1 February 2013 (UTC)

Most of these seem outdated[edit]

Went pet hunting on my ranger, and a lot of these entries seem to be no longer accurate, especially those for lower level range zones :( The preceding unsigned comment was added by Rapthorne (talk) at 21:01, 12 September 2014 (UTC).

Starter zones got completely overhauled with the feature pack, not surprising. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 22:16, 12 September 2014 (UTC)

September Feature Pack 2014 New Pet Locations[edit]

So all know a lot of these locations have been changed since the Feature Pack. I've seen it pop up on reddit twice now and it ocured to me that Juvenile Pet locations in starting zones (when rangers have the fewest pets unlocked) would be a highly desired bit of info for new players. I'd like to update this list as many of the pets on it will be in starting maps (because that is going to be one of the easiest taming locations and it did change). For the brown bear (no longer tameable in Borialis Forest) I changed it to Gendarren Fields because I figured the one in WvW would be more complicated for a lot of players. Traveller (talk) 08:06, 21 September 2014 (UTC)

So I'm changing the pet locations lists for all the level 1-15 maps. I don't believe any pet locations in other maps were touched and I think only pets in low level areas on 1-15 maps were touched. As an example, Juvenile Marsh Drakes were removed from a level 10 area in Metrica Province but they are still there in a level 14 area in Caledon Forest - both of those maps are level 1-15 maps. For the accessibility list I am using the lowest level area available, I am excluding WvW locations (wolf will remain unchanged as it's the only spawn to my knowledge) but I'll leave blue moa (technically spawns after a Caledon Forest event, I'll check to see if they changed it) and I'll change the lynx because the one in Ebonhawk at Wynn's memorial is technically the easiest to reach imo). Traveller (talk) 09:05, 21 September 2014 (UTC)
I'm done updating the pets in the "Most accessible pet locations" list. All that's left now (assuming only low level zones had pets removed) is finish checking the other juvenile pet locations in Queensdale, Metrica Province, Wayfarer Foothils, Plains of Ashford and Caledon Forest. Traveller (talk) 10:04, 21 September 2014 (UTC)
Thanks for doing this, it was desperately needed. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 13:05, 21 September 2014 (UTC)
OK my brain is fried but I think I got everything. I checked every pet location in Caledon Forest, Metrica Province, Wayfarer Foothills, Queensdale and Plains of Ashford. Most of the juveniles were removed and some maps have no juveniles at all. I fixed the wiki pet locations on the zone page, the area page, the pet page and the master list on this page. I also altered the accessibility list to accurately reflect the changes made and I added the lynx and krytan hound found at Thyst's grave. I think September Feature Pack changes have been completely documented and corrected now (still haven't checked the blue moa at Ventri Bay) so you can probably remove that tag. If I made any mistakes please correct me, I am fairly familiar with all the pet spawn locations and I didn't search for new ones but I think all of my edits were accurate. Heart of Thorns Update[edit]

So with the heart of thorns and the new Borderlands we will need to update the lists again. I dont even know if there is any juveniles in the new borderlands or not. The preceding unsigned comment was added by Suddenflame123 (talkcontribs) at 09:43, 6 December 2015 (UTC).

Feedback 2016/05/04[edit]

I found a few juvenile jungle stalkers near Spekks's Laboratory west of Bay Haven Poi in the Maguuma Jungle region. --173.23.32.36 07:25, 4 May 2016 (UTC)

Change for Dragon Stand Tiger[edit]

I tamed the Tiger today, while the events were ongoing. There was no need to wait for the Mouth Of Mordremoth event to end or even start.Darcy (talk) 22:21, 8 May 2016 (UTC)

Level column for new rangers collecting?[edit]

Could we add a Level column to the chart at the top? The preceding unsigned comment was added by 24.71.33.65 (talk) at 08:38, 17 June 2016 (UTC).

Path of Fire[edit]

Has anyone found the new Path of Fire pets yet? The trailer shows at the least a Juvenile Fanged Iboga pet (which I guess would be found closer to Elona). 174.1.100.32 05:11, 24 September 2017 (UTC)

Found Juvenile Jacaranda at Glowering Overlook SW Domain of Vabbi, and the Sand Lion is easy to find near Kusini Crossing, Crystal Oasis. (One Lion near Sifuri Sand Sea HP as well) Any other sightings would be wonderful to know about. --Skekzyz (talk) 05:16, 25 September 2017 (UTC)
Juvenile Sand Lion in Crystal Oasis just east of Southern Way Station. Also just before the broken bridge on the way to Talatat Quarry heading North from Amnoon Waypoint. ~Mervil User Mervil Sig.png 22:56, 26 September 2017 (UTC)
Juvenile Fanged Iboga pet is located in grassy area southwest of Highjump Ranch WP, Desert Highlands. --UnfairOphelia (talk) 03:35, 28 September 2017 (UTC)
Juvenile Rock Gazelle pet is located close to Joko's Domain WP, The Desolation. From WP, jump down to the southwest, then use springer to repeatedly jump up to reach small plateau quite high up, gazelle is on top (due west of WP). --UnfairOphelia (talk) 03:05, 6 October 2017 (UTC)
Juvenile Cheetah pet is located east of Olishar's Oasis Camp WP, Elon Riverlands. From WP, head east to the border of the map at Whispering Grottos. There will be a small hidden crack in the stone (NE of Dragoon Hearst PoI) that leads to an underground cave/mine filled with Corsairs. Follow the tunnel down until you reach a pool, where the Cheetah pet is. --UnfairOphelia (talk) 03:43, 6 October 2017 (UTC)

Feedback 2018/06/17[edit]

Regarding the changes today, especially the removal of the full list here:

I find the overall changes very good and it's nice to have the animals sorted by their species. However, I don't like the overview removal. There is no place on the wiki listing such a concise overview and especially I didn't find any place where its concisely listed which pets can be charmed in any specific zone (the zone articles don't list this kind of information). And while it is good to just include Pet/Locations, the name is a bit misleading: Instead of listing all possible locations, it just lists the most accessible locations, which is a different thing. Additionally, the first paragraph still mentions "The article begins with an overview of all locations", which links to List of pet locations#Overview which doesn't exist anymore.

Still the changes seem to be good and I guess clutter removal is always a good idea -- I was just surprised when I fired the page up today to see which animals to charm in Elon Riverlands and I couldn't find the list. I am not sure if it would be good to reintroduce the full list in some way again, or if it's just not that important... But for now I will fix the link in the first paragraph. --Faedrivin (talk) 21:23, 17 June 2018 (UTC)

Thanks for the feedback. I do agree that some work needs to be put into this article. I would argue that firstly we need to check all the information covered on this article appears on the respective pet articles, then we can look at a better solution (it took me ages to remove that first table simply because I've gone through and ensured no info was lost overall).
I believe that all zone articles list which pets are available - e.g. Elon Riverlands#Pets / Mount Maelstrom#Pets, but perhaps this isn't terribly obvious. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 21:01, 18 June 2018 (UTC)

Feedback Dec 18, 2020[edit]

I like the list but would like to sort the list by any heading. Particularly I'd like to sort it by Zone so I can effectively locate and charm all the available pets. Listing multiple locations would be nice as well since I have found better places than some of the ones on this list simply by accident. Flaccid Coleslaw Dec 18, 2020

Heya! Just wanted to say that under "Most accessible locations" the phoenix is missing. Don't know if intentional or forgotten. --84.115.238.56 13:48, 6 November 2022 (UTC)

Hi, great spot, now added (I've checked the other Cantha pets are all in the table too). -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 14:12, 6 November 2022 (UTC)
