Shift beyond reality to confront the crazed doppelganger is a level 80 event that occurs in Elon Riverlands. A doppelganger, with the same looks, skills, traits, and name as any randomly chosen character in the event area, will spawn and try to hunt that character down. The spawn radius is the same as the prior event, Disperse the wild magic that escaped from Augury Rock, which covers most of the zone (only the southernmost reaches are not affected).

This is the final event of The Path to Ascension meta event.

Walkthrough

As the doppelganger appears to only spawn around the mountain making up the Hall of Ascension, it is recommended to wait near it following completion of the preceeding event.

During the event, players inside the event area will have the  Beyond Reality effect applied. A random player in this area will be designated as a target. For this player, an announcement message stating "Something is coming for you..." will then appear in the center near the top of the screen, while a message stating "A crazed doppelganger now hunts <Character name>!" will similarly appear for everyone else in the event area.

Only the targeted player will be able to see a red boss icon () on their map, indicating the location of the doppelganger which has to be reached within a short window of time in order for the event to progress. Contrary to what the "Something is coming for you..." announcement would suggest, the doppelganger will not purposefully come after the targeted player, so the targeted player must head towards the doppelganger as fast as they can. A roller beetle or other mount is recommended. Note that in cases where the doppelganger spawns on the opposite side of the mountain and also isn't moving towards the targeted player, it may be quite difficult to make it to the doppelganger in time. Note also that waypoints will be unavailable () while targeted.

One of the easier ways to reach the doppelganger is to mount a sand jackal with Shifting Sands mastery and take the sand portal southwest of  Hall of Ascension — POI (south of Follower Dawnwynn).

If the doppelganger is not reached in time or the targeted player dies or leaves the event area, an announcement reading "The doppelganger has returned to Augury Rock. <Character name> is no longer hunted." will appear and 30 seconds later another target will be chosen.

If the doppelganger is reached in time, it will turn hostile and its location will be revealed to everyone within the event's range. Players must defeat the Legendary Doppelganger, which spawns various clones, to complete the event.

Notes

• Prior to a patch in May 2021, the doppelganger would spawn near the targeted player and hunt them down, so the targeted player did not need to chase the doppelganger.
