Guild Wars 2 Wiki:Reporting wiki bugs/Loading problems
Summary[edit]
After moving to a new server on 17th August 2010, pages have been intermittently hard to load. That's pretty much the problem in a nutshell.
Trouble loading pages since server move[edit]
- → moved from Guild Wars 2 Wiki:Reporting wiki bugs
2010[edit]
I'm having trouble with page load times/getting pages from the wiki (gww seems to work most of the time) since the server move. I'll hit reload on RecentChanges and I wait and wait for a page to load (if at all, usually it times out) and then I hit refresh again and I get the page fine and fast and then hit refresh again and I'm waiting again for the request. I'm just using recent changes as an example as happens on any page I try. Ping to wiki.guildwars2.com is pretty consistent and without packet loss. This is a problem from both home and work, I'm having no problems with other websites and don't seem to have problem with refreshing the www.guildwars2.com site.
Is anyone else suffering from the same? -- Aspectacle 07:39, 17 August 2010 (UTC)
- Same here, but the issue is new to me. Immediately after the database move, it worked fine for at least 2 hours. At this time, the URL to access the wiki was wiki.gtm.guildwars2.com though, and now it's going back to wiki.guildwars2.com so there might be some DNS changes in progress. Just be patient IMO. - As long as I'm not alone in this strangeness. Thanks Chriskang. :) -- Aspectacle 09:31, 17 August 2010 (UTC)
- Im getting some dodgy lag aswell, but mine involves sig pictures and toolbar-in-editmode-pictures not apearing. well, that and Srs lag.--Neil • 10:23, 17 August 2010 (UTC)

- When I go here (after having none of the pages opened) or when I reload pages after a few hours. It takes a long while to load, once loaded it goes smoothly. Ariyen 23:52, 17 August 2010 (UTC)
- Lol I seem to have to different accounts with the same name since the server move.--Emmisary 01:04, 18 August 2010 (UTC)
- Emmisary, you should probably make a new section to have those addressed, lol. At least the intermittency has subsided for me. Pages are loading like normal. Venom20 01:08, 18 August 2010 (UTC)
- No, you're just using two different accounts - Emmisary (talk • contribs • logs • block log) is different to The Emmisary (talk • contribs • logs • block log). Note the "The". pling 01:10, 18 August 2010 (UTC)
- Anyone else still have intermittent issues loading the pages since the move? most of the time I have to hit refresh 2-3 times because the loading of a page just hangs. It only happens with this wiki. Upon an NSLookup I found the IP to be 64.25.35.206, after pining (for 50 responses) I noticed high response times. No packet loss and an avg ping time of 104ms. Compared to a google (173.194.32.104) ping, the avg time was 17ms and yahoo (69.147.125.65) was 43ms. Not overly high, but I'm wondering if others are still experiencing this. Venom20 02:54, 20 August 2010 (UTC)
- To compare, a ping to GWW (64.25.35.205) yields an avg time of 89ms Venom20 02:56, 20 August 2010 (UTC)
- The problem cleared up for a while, but I've had intermittent load time problems again - maybe for a day or so. -- Aspectacle 03:04, 20 August 2010 (UTC)
- I've noticed that earlier in the day it seems to lag for me at different times of the day, but late at night I don't experience bad lag. Ariyen 05:52, 20 August 2010 (UTC)

- If it takes too long to load (e.g. if I wait 5 seconds and there's no response), I stop and reload, and the re-queueing seems to work somehow. Just a suggestion. --Kyoshi (Talk) 22:43, 13 September 2010 (UTC)
- I emailed Emily a couple of weeks ago and also sent messages to Anet accounts on twitter. Didn't receive a response from either, so today I sent more tweets and I'll see if msn works. I believe a month is enough time to wait before pestering people more often and perhaps personally. I've also sent an email to Support. pling 23:06, 13 September 2010 (UTC)

I wonder if the reason why this problem is worse now has something to do with the fact we have just uploaded a lot of new images, due to the guardian reveal. Erasculio 20:52, 29 January 2011 (UTC)

- I wasn't using the wiki over the weekend, but today and yesterday it has been seriously unusable. Everything that does load loads slowly. Many things will not load at all... Is this still related to a server move last summer, or is this something new? - Alice 18:56, 15 February 2011 (UTC)
- The symptoms are identical to those immediately after the server moved. Periodically terrible slow to respond and other times fine. For a while there I though the problem had been fixed - over January there wasn't any sign of the problem. Yesterday evening I had a terrible time, there was a period of an hour or so where I couldn't get any page to load for me in a timely fashion. Their lack of acknowledgement or apparent action on the issue to be frustrating. ArenaNet's apparent inattention makes me wish we had more control over the server/hosting side of this wiki operation. -- aspectacle 23:12, 15 February 2011 (UTC)
- Agreed, I figured that if one page is loading, (after it attempts to redirect to the saved version..) I just exit and get back in through a new tab. - Lucian 3:46, 16 February 2011 (UTC)
- sigh, just sigh. On a somewhat related note, when saving comments on a talk page or something. After you hit save, just watch the URL. When submit has vanished from it and the URL looks like a section of the page, you can just close the tab. I almost never wait for the page to show up anymore. It's like attempting to preview it, not happening. Venom20 14:21, 18 February 2011 (UTC)

- All my reports of this bug are located in the Netherlands, are also experienced at other people's locations from across this country (at least those I have witnessed first-hand), the time interval spans an x amount of hours during the day (but is usually spanning multiple days non-stop), can fluctuate in severity but persists nonetheless, affects the whole wiki and my and other locations' internet connection(s) has been checked everytime before reporting this issue. I hope this information helps. All other knowledge I have on this issue is third party information and they should elaborate on their own accord. - Infinite - talk 20:33, 7 April 2011 (UTC)

July 2011[edit]
It's only saving pages that's causing me trouble. In the recent changes I've got an edit to a talk page listed three times for the same edit. I clicked the button to save changes and waited about a minute or two. I then clicked it twice again and it worked. Browsing the wiki and loading up the edit page works perfectly, however. Oh, and I'm using chrome. --Xu Davella 11:55, 2 July 2011 (UTC)
- I came her to say the same things. I can browse perfectly fine, all pages load up quite speedily. When I press edit, the page loads up normally (good timing). But when I press save, it take over a minute to make the changes. For example, I tagged a vandal page for deletion, and the save took 74s. I am currently using FF5 and reside in eastern Canada. Venom20 09:41, 5 July 2011 (UTC)
- Saving takes an insane amount of time. Again, hitting the save button multiple times achieves nothing but display of impatience as multiple same edits ;) Just wait it out. --zeeZ 09:58, 5 July 2011 (UTC)
- At the moment things are fine. Saving takes some time, but only max 20 seconds. I use Internet Explorer 7. -- Cyan 10:09, 5 July 2011 (UTC)

August 2011[edit]
Even with consistent reports every month, I am still confident that it will be fixed soon. :) Like I stated last month, everything works fine except for when it comes to saving the pages. I have grown accustomed to opening up multiple tabs for editing while waiting for original articles to update my edits. Time can vary from between a few seconds to nearly a minute before the server responds with the requested changes. I also check Recent Changes while the page is waiting to be loaded and it doesn't actually show up until the page refreshes. I use Chrome. --Xu Davella 14:53, 11 August 2011 (UTC)
- This issue is directly related to the currently updating sylvari page on the official site and should be resolved when that update is officially live (which it is not at this time, but for certain viewers it is updated already). - Infinite - talk 14:55, 11 August 2011 (UTC)
- After a few months of not having any problems I'm back to intermittent failures (socket timeouts, unexpectedly long load duration) on page/image loads and saves. Often I will open several pages, one will "stick" (taking extra time) and all other page requests made after it will progress slowly. If I close the first slowly loading page often the rest of the pages I requested will immediately start loading properly and retrieve quickly and without any problems. I can date my problems to sometime after the most recent bot vandalism round and the admin changes to the wiki automatic blocking scripts. -- aspectacle 06:14, 19 August 2011 (UTC)
