Normal rank always displaying[edit]

The other ranks seem to only display if it finds a page but normal rank will create a red link. E.g. the large Chak, I think they're always veteran or higher.

I've changed the template to add the same check that applies for the veteran, elite etc. versions for the Normal rank page as well. —Nefastu (talk) 17:06, 8 December 2016 (UTC)

Candy Corn NPCs[edit]

This template works quite nicely for just about everybody but Bite-Sized Candy Corn Elemental and Veteran King-Sized Candy Corn Elemental who sadly gets left out of the Candy Corn Elemental family, as putting {{Creature nav|Candy Corn Elemental}} doesn't include them due to not having the exact same name/duplicates of same rank. There's also Champion Family-Sized Candy Corn Elemental, but it's historical, and I'm not sure if it should be included, as that one could be added by doing the rank thing so this is more of a "should we" than "could we". - Doodleplex 23:36, 19 December 2016 (UTC)

I don't think this is possible with the current set of properties on the wiki, but as you wrote, that's what the rank parameters are for. One could add a property something like ?Has creature family or that only has the different ?Has NPC rank variations, but I don't think it's worth it for the (I believe) few creature families that would need that property. —Nefastu 03:08, 20 December 2016 (UTC)
Alright, then probably the best option is to either write it out manually on each page or create a separate template just for the few, well this might be the only group, NPCs that have odd naming schemes. Thanks for answering! =) - Doodleplex 04:02, 20 December 2016 (UTC)

NPC pages with NPC in name[edit]

Is there a way that NPCs that have the same name as their race, and as a result have "NPC" in their name, to not have the "(NPC)" part show up on the table? For example Shark (NPC) has "NPC" in it because there's a shark race, and it shows up with "(NPC)" part in the nav which feels a tad redundant. - Doodleplex 22:49, 4 January 2017 (UTC)

The template now ignores anything after "(" is found in the name for npc family name and normal rank page alt text, so (NPC) should no longer appear on there. Links to the other ranks are not affected by this change - if this change is necessary for these links as well, let me know. —Nefastu 23:32, 4 January 2017 (UTC)

Could we have an option to override the normal rank creature like we can the other ranks?[edit]

E.g. I can do:

{{creature nav|Arrowhead Hatchling|veteran=Veteran Arrowhead|Champion=Champion Arrowhead}}

But then the Nav is called "Arrowhead Hatchling". I think something like

{{creature nav|Arrowhead|base=Arrowhead Hatchling}}

would be simpler and better. —Azurem 19:30, 10 January 2017 (UTC)

I've added a family param that overrides the heading: {{creature nav|Arrowhead Hatchling|veteran=Veteran Arrowhead|champion=Champion Arrowhead|family=Arrowhead}}.

The most fun one yet....[edit]

Had to do this:

With additional links of:

Because Anet and naming consistency for what is effectively the same dang NPC... (talking about the three non-Sovereign champions, 100% identical except for name) Konig (talk) 22:45, 13 January 2017 (UTC)

Could we have new field for youth/youngling creature version?[edit]

There is a lot of creatures that have younglings and currently only way to include them in "Nav box" is manually filling out "Blank nav" template. Ex. Spotted Hyena Pup, Wolf Pup, Bear Cub. Simek (talk) 12:52, 25 October 2019 (UTC)

Kinda late, but I added the parameter young which can be set to the young prefix/suffix.
{{Creature nav|Rock Gazelle Fawn|young=Fawn}}

Note that for the parameter young usage, in general one doesn't need to specify the unnamed parameter 1. However, if the young name cannot be created with prefix/suffix, then the parameter young name can be used instead and the unnamed parameter 1 must be set to the normal NPC name on the young page only (all others are able to extract the NPC name automatically).
{{User:Tolkyria/Sandbox2|Fanged Iboga|young name=Iboga Sprout}}

Broken??[edit]

I'm not an expert when it comes to coding this stuff but from what I can see, something seems to be broken. I've seen plenty of pages lacking veteran rank and maybe more. Desert Bandit and Mountain Hyena off the top of my head but there's more I'm sure. Just figured I'd let people know. In case it wasn't known already. Nero9012 (talk) 09:22, 2 October 2020 (UTC)

The reason that the creature nav doesn't show veteran and other ranked foes is because those pages don't have the rank set in the infoboxes. I've fixed the issue on the two pages you listed (at least it seems to be working now) but if you find any more, please add the rank to pages for the veteran (or higher ranks) foes. Sunlion (talk) 09:27, 2 October 2020 (UTC)
Also, sometimes even after adfing the missing rank, you need to purge the page for the change to show. ~SimeUser Sime Maraca Choya.pngTalk 09:28, 2 October 2020 (UTC)
Ah, the rank infobox makes sense. I'll keep an eye out. Nero9012 (talk) 09:51, 2 October 2020 (UTC)
