Is this still necessary?[edit]

At time of writing, the key-mappings section is just an out of date version of the "Control Options" section on Options. It may be useful to keep the first image of the GW2 manual page for historical purposes, but otherwise this page seems entirely unnecessary (i.e. delete?) Xmasreturns (talk) 00:34, 30 December 2015 (UTC)

Given that the most recent patch (2 August 2022) has messed up some players' key bindings (swapped Q<->A and E<->D, and overwritten any special actions customisation that they may have made) - yes, it's very useful having an independent reference to what the default bindings ought to be. Where things get more complicated is waiting to see whether or not ANet reverse the change, or leave things as they are (in which case, this page will be incorrect). Movement Keys (keyboard shortcuts)[edit]

Am I the only one who cannot find an article or paragraph on the keyboard movement keys or the list of shortcut keys?? And does running, jumping, and dodging at the same time perform a mid air flip? Rudhraighe 23:16, 19 March 2012 (UTC)

Controls, though page needs updating. There is this video which should help to that project. User Mattsta Sig1.jpgUser Mattsta Sig2.jpg 23:57, 19 March 2012 (UTC)
Thank you I did some work on it i hope i did not mess things up too much. Someone will need to do some cleanup and then link this page Controls back into User interface somewhere please. Rudhraighe 03:12, 20 March 2012 (UTC)
Awesome. Made it into a table to clean it up and got that link back to User interface via the See Also section at the bottom. User Mattsta Sig1.jpgUser Mattsta Sig2.jpg 05:22, 20 March 2012 (UTC)
Oh, when you want to insert a reference... You did the reference section with the
<references/>
correctly to list the references, but for the actual references you put in
<ref>[link Explanation]</ref>
next to the text you want referenced. User Mattsta Sig1.jpgUser Mattsta Sig2.jpg 05:26, 20 March 2012 (UTC)
Stellar Work Thank You! i know i'm gonna do some remapping after 8 years i'm kinda stuck with the original GW controls like:
Reassign Current Keys
B - Open Scoreboard panel to - <,
N - Open PvP information panel to - >.
Map Unassigned/reassigned keys
U - Hide UI
R - Automatic Run
S - Move Backward
W - Move Forward
Q - Strafe Left
E - Strafe Right
_- - High-Res Screenshot
+= - 3D Screenshot
N - Friendly - Next
" '- Hold Lock
B - Reverse Camera
J - Personal Story Journal
K - Show the Kennel Dialog
C - Foe - Nearest
X - Walk/Swim down
Z - Stow/Draw Weapons
L - Free Camera
Mouse History Forward Button - Reverse Direction
Mouse History Back Button - Push to Talk Teamspeak/Ventrillo or F / Interact
mouse in right hand for movement, left hand on left edge of keyboard for commands ;) Rudhraighe 05:49, 20 March 2012 (UTC)
Yeah, it surprised me that it has the arrow keys mapped as the move keys. I am definitely going to be switching those back to asdw. I am just too used to have my left hand on the left edge of the keyboard as well. :) User Mattsta Sig1.jpgUser Mattsta Sig2.jpg 06:00, 20 March 2012 (UTC)
Definitely going to be reassigning keys back ... especially since I have accounts I intend to keep active (could be mildly fatal to try to do a GW2 key in GW1 .. or vice-versa, for that matter). Algonda 10:49, 24 April 2012 (UTC)

Suggestion for Template Addition[edit]

I have an idea for adding another template to improve the (Template:Key) by adding another for template for Unicodes. ie Template:Unicode

This would then allow for Keys to have symbools on them, ie. ↵ Enter on Enter and ← Backspace on Backspace.

Just an idea. The preceding unsigned comment was added by Shealladh (talk • contribs) at 16:42, 5 April 2012 (UTC).

Might be useful, it depends on whether there's a need to put in those symbols. It might be better to suggest this in the talk pages of Controls or Template:Key. -- ab.er.rant User Ab.er.rant Sig.png 10:18, 5 April 2012 (UTC)

We cannot remove/rename for everyone's keyboard remap[edit]

Just because you see it on U-Tube does not mean it is the DEFAULT keyboard setting. Players remap to suit their OWN playing styles. What is documented here is the DEFAULT keyboard settings and Undocumented but DEFAULT Keyboard commands. DO NOT change this unless you can DOCUMENT that it is a change to the DEFAULT. And especially not from a U-Tube video that is Three MONTHS outdated. The V key is still DODGE. (Need to document Ctrl+Shift+H remove UI) and (Toggle graphs: Shift + F10), (Targeting: Foe - Previous" (default: [ or SHIFT+TAB)) as well as (Skill and Target "CALLING" like in GW1 [controls]) Rudhraighe 15:52, 3 May 2012 (UTC)

If I remember correctly from last BWE, my dodge key was unbound when I first logged in. I actually had to bind it to a key myself before I could use it. -- Level100 17:03, 20 May 2012 (UTC)

Auto Approach?[edit]

Does anyone know if there is/will be a way to auto approach things? Something like, if you have an enemy selected and click on a melee skill, your char will move into melee range before using it. Or, if you have a merchant or other NPC selected and press F or double click on it, you will move to it. I looked on the these last two stress tests but saw nothing but quite possible that I overlooked it if was there. User Tytan Crow Crow.jpg Titan Crow 18:10, 11 August 2012 (UTC)

AFAIK this is what the 'click (on ground/target) to move' removal has totally done away with, thus you must actually move to where you want to be. This aspect is what makes this game feel more like WoW to me. --Skekzyz 03:16, 13 August 2012 (UTC)

I hate that click to move has been done away with. Seeing as the maps on GW2 are so much bigger than they were on GW1, an easier way to get around becomes very important. Anet, why you do this??? I tried binding M1 to "interact" but it didn't work either. StormcrowX 05:15, 5 September 2012 (UTC)

Double Tap Dodge only forwards and backwards?[edit]

Works for me only for up/down arrows. Double tapping A or D just rotates the camera.

Double tap is not very responsive for some reason, and since I never use the turn right/left keys I have no idea what they do if you dbl tap them, try dbl tapping the strafe right/left keys, if you are auto running it makes you roll slightly right/left while still moving forward, if you are standing still it makes you just about dive-roll sideways at a 90 degree angle. --Skekzyz 03:31, 13 August 2012 (UTC)
I'm with OP on the double left/right tap. While standing, double Q and E dodge left and right. While moving forward , double Q and E dodge forward left and forward right. Double A and D only turn the camera. I'm on a mac though, so I would like to confirm before editing. Myth0s 17:55, 26 November 2012 (UTC)
You have to double tap the strafe keys, so either Q and E or A and D if you're holding down right mouse to manually control the camera Dogmantra 12:09, 27 November 2012 (UTC)

Controls are account based?[edit]

Should it mentioned that key bindings are account based, not harddrive/install based? I had to install GW2 on a different hard drive after my original went bad, but found that my custom key bindings were all the same. I think the other options items had been reset though.152.7.16.116 17:23, 30 August 2012 (UTC)

when are we going to get click and point movement bacl. The controls keys are tedious, and I dont want to have to use them just for walking

Next Target[edit]

How does the game choose, what the next target is? -User Mikkelet Eme.jpgikkelet 16:33, 18 March 2015 (UTC)

Did some testing today and recorded it on Options#Control Options. Btw shouldn't we redirect this page to that section? Seems redundant. --Kazerniel (talk) 14:06, 5 February 2018 (UTC)

Information Dialogue[edit]

What exactly is it? Hitting N doesn't seem to do anything for me. - Doodleplex 01:21, 7 August 2017 (UTC)

It gives instructions about stuff like Bell Choir, snowball fight, clocktower, etc. I know in Winter Wonderland it gives a score screen so I'd assume it does that in PvP too --Gimmethegepgun (talk) 01:26, 7 August 2017 (UTC)

Feedback 2017/09/26[edit]

There is now a mount section in controls. --172.243.135.174 10:52, 26 September 2017 (UTC)

Feedback 2020/08/24[edit]

I came here looking for the hidden/unlisted controls, such as splitting a stack of items in your inventory by holding alt and dragging the stack to another spot in your inventory. I know there are various combinations of alt/control/shift with mouse clicks/drags, but haven't found a place where these are documented.

Well the lead section of Item has the alt drag to split a stack (3rd line) and ctrl/shift to ping links to chat (4th line). Would it be useful to repeat that information on this page, perhaps at the bottom in a notes section? -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 20:51, 24 August 2020 (UTC)

Removed Mac specific keybinds[edit]

I've removed Cmd+Enter from "Toggle full-screen" since the mac client is no longer supported. --Whiteaden (talk) 19:36, 13 January 2022 (UTC)

Feedback 2022/03/01[edit]

The image showing the keybinds is way out of date for things like mounts and new specialzations. --Books are your friend (talk) 15:55, 1 March 2022 (UTC)

other options[edit]

twice on this talk page undocumented keybinds are mentioned yet none are listed, so i thought i would start a list here is one "Movement - Deploy Glider" you can see it for yourself by unbinding "Jump" then rebinding it to "Space" There are real problems with both this page AND with the bindings themselves. until now, i have been able to use my mouse to jump/glide or dodge/glide without ANY keyboard interaction. so i could dodge back off of a cliff and instantly deploy glider, saved my ass many times in WvW. now when i jump or dodge near a drop off, i die. also i could ascend on skyscale by holding the jump keybind button down, or do a long leap on raptor. i now have to klick once to jump, lose altitude, klick a 2nd time to hover and then am UNABLE to ascend. the altitude loss has also left me stuck several times, or on raptor/warclaw i do an aborted mini jump And can no longer leap. i suspect that one or more of the hidden options has changed. it is mentioned above that dl'ing and reinstalling does not perform a reset, so what does? currently when asked "should i buy gw?" i say only if you intend to use it in a well lit room so you can see your keyboard and o btw, just throw your 200 dollar mouse in the trash, its useless. since i play in the dark "immersive experience" gw2 is currently a fail. and even if i were to play in a well lit room, its STILL a fail as my keyboard is out of reach. this is a GUI boisngrlz NOT a 1987 text based DOS game. it may be time to go back to gw1 for a while which as pointed out above, is so much more advanced than gw2 that the keybinds do not exhibit these obtuse behaviors. and when asked why i came back, point them to this info block.
