Candidate statement[edit]

First off, I would like to thank you for the nomination and for having faith in me. It really means a lot to me.

Before delving in medias res and explaining my reasoning behind my RfA, let me begin with a little anecdote.

When I first joined the wiki in 2015, my very first project involved rendering/cutting out images to fill the then empty clothing tonic galleries. While I was able to purchase the cheapest tonics in-game so I could model them for screenshots, I soon hit a wall when it came to the more expensive ones. That’s when I first encountered the greatness of a community of like-minded individuals and the benefits of collaboration in a wiki environment. I was baffled when Tyndel (who is responsible for all the awesome miniature images) offered me to borrow the missing clothing tonics so I could finish my little endeavour. It is truly amazing what a group of people can achieve together by helping each other out.

Over the years I have had the pleasure to be a part of and help with various projects — e.g., the legendary weapons collections back when Heart of Thorns launched, the continuation of the equipment images legacy project and more recently the AMA on Reddit. Throughout this time I grew very fond of the people who constitute this community — namely all of you.

I am certain I am not alone in wanting the wiki community to thrive and to grow. And grow we certainly did (which is also thanks to initiatives like OWOG)! Hence why there is a need for new administrators. Over the last few years, we had a steady influx of new editors and yet, we haven’t had a RfA since Doodle’s and Greener’s in 2017. Our admin team is amazing, but after all this time of them pouring so much work and love into this wiki, they could use a break. I hope that if I step up, others will follow, so that we can lessen the burden for our current admin team and allow for more diversity in opinions and actions.

I strongly believe that the wiki presents a great opportunity: it offers room for personal and social development. By interacting with others, you learn how to function in a team, reaching consensus and making compromises along the way. Because of this, I want to help ensuring this wiki stays a positive and safe space for every user.

While I lack technical abilities and expertise, I can offer you level-headedness, empathy and knowledge about the community. The role I can see myself in is that of a mediator and promoter. I want the wiki to be accessible as well as transparent and a pleasant experience for both readers and editors. As an admin, I would strive to prevent heated situations from arising let alone escalating and ensure the well-being of our community members as well as stand up for people who might find themselves on their own. I would also lend an open ear (or eye) for people to vent and confide in me about problems with other users or life if they feel okay with that.

Granting me the respective rights would primarily enable me to participate in admin discussions dealing with user conflicts, and thus making it possible for me to weigh in with my opinions. They would also allow me to execute the usual maintenance work (deleting, blocking spam bots and changing the wiki’s design on certain occasions), instead of having to bother others about these tasks.

I hope I was able to explain myself properly — should there be any questions left, I would be happy to elaborate.
Thank you for your consideration. User Incarnazeus Signature.pngtalk 15:45, 15 October 2019 (UTC)

Discussion[edit]

  • Explanation of why the candidate should or should not retain rights/be given additional rights.
  • Strong support, obviously. In the past we've had people who become sysops mostly for access to the tools the role provides- they want to move and delete pages en masse, or respond more quickly to vandals and spambots, or fiddle with widgets and the site layout. While these tools are technically the only thing that separates sysops from other users, I believe the community expects more than just technical proficiency from the people it entrusts with them. I think Inc represents the full package. As I said when I nominated her, I have no doubt that she would use the tools responsibly, would handle user disputes fairly, and would represent our community in the best positive light, both on the wiki and off. - Felix Omni 14:52, 15 October 2019 (UTC)
  • Strong support. From their presence on the Wiki Discord up to the recent Reddit AMA, Inc has shown how deeply they care about the Wiki and its community. ❄The F. Prince❄ (talk) 15:05, 15 October 2019 (UTC)
  • Strong support. Yass Queen! (Felix said i can say what i want!) --Smiley™ de: user | talk 15:26, 15 October 2019 (UTC)
  • Strong support. Her recent AMA on reddit has left me feeling pretty proud of the community we have here and what we've been able to accomplish, and I hope we can continue to foster a friendly atmosphere that encourages teamwork and supports our newbies. Besides the fact that we currently only have a handful of admins who could use some help in their duties, I feel that bringing in more admins who have a desire to focus on community would be a boon. Inc definitely counts among the users I'd like to see brought into the fold. —Idris User Idris signature.png 15:57, 15 October 2019 (UTC)
  • Strong support. My "feelings" regarding Wiki Admin is that it SHOULD be more concentrated on the PLAYERS and NOT the technical aspects of the game. ANET already HAS staff to cover that portion and having WIKI admin "dabbling" in this area is just a "heavy rainstorm on an already over-saturated field", leaving everyone wading through the hip=deep mud. Dealing with player concerns and issues is a MUCH needed apparatus to keeping this game interesting with high vitality for all. Myself, I'm a PvE and WvW player, so my concerns are in those arenas. undouble 13:52 15 October 2019
    • Undouble, you do know that Wiki admins are not ArenaNet staff members and just players like you, right? - Doodleplex 21:19, 15 October 2019 (UTC)
  • I support this as well. I've not been massively involved in the wiki recently (though I'd like to change that), but from what I can see from Inc's history and the things others say, it seems clear that she is a strong candidate that the wiki would be better off for having. • Neutral/Loose against. I like Inc, and I once believed we got along well, and she does a good job around the wiki, but I'm iffy about someone who steps into a dispute by insulting one side of the dispute so as the other doesn't feel isolated becoming an admin as that is not a proper approach to disputes. Konig (talk) 18:38, 15 October 2019 (UTC)
  • I support the request. Inc is a dedicated, capable and empathic editor whose feedback I really value and I'm certain she would make a great admin. Tyndel (talk) 19:23, 15 October 2019 (UTC)
  • I don't know if I'm allowed to write a comment here, but: I barely know this cutiepie, I don't remember when we started talking, but she is extremely friendly and I think she would do an amazing job. ThomasStarr (talk) 12:47, 15 October 2019 (UTC)
    • Everyone's allowed to participate! I can't vouch for anyone's cutieposity though. - Felix Omni 00:59, 16 October 2019 (UTC)
      • I'm always joking with her, but I should probably have said just girl instead. Oh well.ThomasStarr (talk) 13:08, 15 October 2019 (UTC)
  • No support. While I've seen User:Incarnazeus around, I don't think they or anyone else would benefit much from the extra privileges. --— Cronos 01:53, 16 October 2019 (UTC)
  • I support. They have a history of active contributions to the wiki. We also need a diverse range of people in the adminship role. For example, non-English speakers can ensure that wiki content is understandable by ESOL people. Hesione (talk) 12:03, 19 October 2019 (NZDT)
  • Support. I've watched Incarnazeus do great work with weapon skin images as far back as 2016, and she helped me run On Wiki of Gold while I was at sea for two weeks in February 2019. From my interactions with her, I believe she would be a capable admin. -- Dashface User Dashface.png 12:05, 19 October 2019 (UTC)
  • Neutral - Inc's a great editor and has certainly steadily driven the quality of the gallery images up on the wiki over the years she's been here. She's very friendly and has helped to present the wiki in a positive light with the recent AMA. That being said we've got dozens of very approachable editors. I can't really think of any reason why Inc would make a better sysop than any of the others and, as an example, I'm struggling to find any stand-out contributions on talk pages. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 16:20, 19 October 2019 (UTC)
  • Support. - Inc has proven herself to be an extremely capable editor, with her tireless work in the Gem Store department over the years. As evident from the question I asked her in the talk page, she is also willing to take a stand against what she believes is wrong, and most importantly, stand up for users who she feels have been misjudged, which is both admirable and honest. Even though she hasn't been involved in too many disputes over the years, I believe she can definitely help mediate future confrontations between users, and show understanding for the involved parties. —Ventriloquist 20:27, 20 October 2019 (UTC)
