I was surprised not to see one.

When I last left Lion's Arch, the arena was all anyone was talking about. Though I suppose a lot can change in five years.

What happened to it?

Torn down. The asura made a breakthrough in their attempts to open a portal to the Mists, and the arena was removed to make way for the gate.

I wonder why they didn't just move the arena.

The same question has occurred to me. Though I've heard that the Lionguard and the Vigil are preparing the courtyard as a staging arena. Something to do with Orr, I'm sure.
