Wanted Pages

So, I was lurking on the wikis (here/GWW) and I found the Wanted Pages project. I think I asked about a specific instance awhile back, but would it be okay for me to attempt to clean up Wanted Pages? Most of it links to defunct policies, uncreated userbox categories, or unused and deleted sig icons. I would assume that GW2W:Administrator should redirect to the list of admins, and most policies would redirect to the superceded (or whatever the word is) policy portal, but otherwise it would require fixing/removing links as necessary. Neil, I know its just a conglomeration of red links, but most of them aren't necessary. Redlinks should, at the very least, be able to tell us what we need. Things like deleted policy proposals, links to moved images or deleted sig icons that were in use before deletion really don't help us find potentially important redlinks. WantedPages, while being a good mechanism, is inherently broken on wikis. It is not possible to create all pages from that special page; for example one reason you have just showed yourself, Neil (i.e. just linking to a random page). The fact that pages come and go all the time, and people still talk about them (and discussions are kept), makes it worse so that things like orphaned-image-notices (i.e. "hi, your image xy is unused and will be deleted if you don't keep it") etc. add up as well. And as you mentioned yourself the wiki's behaviour to keep old pages, like policies and their discussions, around, doesn't help either.

The only working way is to simply ignore WantedPages altogether.. poke | talk 08:18, 3 January 2011 (UTC)

Category discussion

Pling, you had mentioned a while ago how you think our category structure is too complex. Infinite and myself have been discussing a redesign of the entire wiki category tree (the current tree is a very big mess) here, I would ask you to take a look and share some of your opinions so we end with a system that isn't unnecessarily complex (of course we won't change anything without input from a considerably large number of users, especially at this time of the year). Maintenance Project stuff

So, in my eternal quest to find a possibly unnecessary but possibly useful projects, what is your opinion on archiving all talk pages to prepare for what (hopefully) will be the year of game release? Aquadrizzt (talk)(contribs) 02:07, 14 January 2011 (UTC)

I don't think it's necessary (:P). As usual, archives should be made when pages get long and the old/stale discussions are in the way. (I also doubt we'll see Guild Wars 2 released this year...) pling 18:59, 14 January 2011 (UTC)

Professions reveal

Despite the notice, Talk:Professions reveal is still a mess of speculation. With over 232 kb of speculation, (mostly due to the fact that users are unsure if they can archive an active discussion when it is speculation. This leads to other users continuing the discussion, making it increasingly questionable if we are allowed to archive.) Are we allowed to quick archive speculation discussions and/or moved them to the original posting user's talk page? And, as to prevent future speculation, may I bring up the way Salome did it with the Feedback:Game updates. It seems a bit harsh, but a slightly toned down version of that could be useful for "repeat offenders." Aquadrizzt (talk)(contribs) 04:26, 22 January 2011 (UTC)

Link Roundups

What changed is that someone disagreed with their worthiness and edited the page. I thought the relatively minor things like links to fansite articles get in the way of the major things like profession announcements or book releases. pling 19:49, 29 January 2011 (UTC)

Nornbear champion of Jormag

Read the talk page, your question was answered. It's stated in EoD that Svanir was Jormag's question. Doubt the other Sons of Svanir are currently his champions, because there are stronger minions (Dragonspawn). Though before his awakening, they could of been. I don't think it was, but the page needed splitting up - the introduction shouldn't contain as much as it did. If you want to add a spoiler tag at the top of the section until a consensus is reached, go ahead. pling 21:06, 10 February 2011 (UTC)

Str right and the other related templates. I can easily chop off characters from the left, but I don't know how to do so from the right without incorporating trim right, which uses str right and a few others. Considering this is my first contribution ever

and that I was promoted on the basis of an off-hand comment on IRC once upon a time, you might want to demote me to make being a sysop on this wiki less of a joke. I have no intention of contributing within the foreseeable future and if that situation ever changes and I want to be a sysop, I can get it through a reasonable pathway. Since near enough all sysops were promoted in the same way (grandfathering from other wikis), I don't think you need to be individually desysopped. There'll inevitably be some kind of reconfirmation process in the near future for these sysops. Unless you want to be specifically removed, I'm fine with leaving you there until that reconfirmation. (Removing you on the basis that you were grandfathered and aren't active, as opposed to you not wanting to be a sysop, would mean I would need to remove many other sysops, and I'm not going to take that decision on my own.) pling 13:36, 28 February 2011 (UTC)

G'day Pling. I was wondering if the new captcha was an added benefit of the update that was recently performed. While I think it's a good idea to prevent outside links being added to internal pages, I was wondering if there is an exception list that can be created. For instance, any time {{ArenaNet image}} is added to a page, it's asks for the captcha (assuming that it doesn't like the GFDL link). Venom20 13:21, 1 June 2011 (UTC)

Moving pages

Apparently I get "Action Throttled" when I attempt to move too many pages files. I can only move 5 pages at any given time before I have to wait to move more. Is this anti-spam measure intended for all users? Venom20 21:12, 24 July 2011 (UTC)

Hmm, I'm not sure. I remember we had some trouble with move-vandals on GWW which led to the throttle, but I can't recall who it was meant for, and I can't find the discussion. Um... ask poke or Tanetris :P. pling 22:00, 24 July 2011 (UTC)

And of course I find the relevant thing straight after I click save. gw1:Guild Wars Wiki:Requests for technical administration/Configuring page move limits. It was just a strange occurrence. According to that post, the limit is 10. Seems reasonable. Also it appears that only autoconfirmed members can move things (as a lower bound). You are of course free to create such subpages (as well as any other subpage) of your userpage. Note though that there won’t be some mechanism that automatically switches to the correct localized version of your userpage, so you’ll have to redirect your visitors to those subpages yourself (e.g. by putting up a note with links at the top of your page). poke | talk 23:54, 6 October 2011 (UTC)
