Yay, a fresh talkpage! Mediggo 13:16, 14 July 2011 (UTC)

Trine

Beautiful game. When I bought this, I instantly thought about the Trine spell from FF7. :D --Xu Davella 09:07, 29 July 2011 (UTC)

Trine is Finnish btw. :P Can't wait for sequel, it seems much better, especially with online coop. Also, love FF7. :3 Mediggo 09:13, 29 July 2011 (UTC)

Character Template

did you make a copy of Shew's character template and keeping it because Shewmake is deleting his? If so, I'm going to take it, xD Fabian 03:13, 31 July 2011 (UTC)

Yes, it's right here. It should work as long as Shew does not make tremendous changes to some elements of the template (which are still under his userspace). Mediggo 12:42, 31 July 2011 (UTC)
It'd be helpful if you'd upload them to your user space (eventually), though, 'cause I'd like to be able to delete them once everyone has either changed to yours or something else.-- Shew 12:44, 31 July 2011 (UTC)
Awesome! :D Fabian 17:40, 31 July 2011 (UTC)
Yes, I'm going to do that later. :3 Mediggo 17:42, 31 July 2011 (UTC)

Yay for guardian and elementalist!

Or was it added yesterday? :P User:GlastiumGlastium | talk 12:55, 31 July 2011 (UTC)

I did Guardian last thursday and elementalist friday. I also started necro, but scrapped it. Mediggo 14:01, 31 July 2011 (UTC)
Btw your character template looks very nice. Watchlist'd. Mediggo 14:02, 31 July 2011 (UTC)
Seems you've finished first draft of necro. Hmmm... Bug found! Looks like you failed to mention guardians can't wield axes. :D Well generally I feel a bit farfected in the comparison but who cares? It's still Ultimate Evil vs. Ultimate Hero!. (Bad joke? Yes?) User:GlastiumGlastium | talk 15:29, 31 July 2011 (UTC)
Oh one thing I forgot... thanks for your interests on my character template! User:GlastiumGlastium | talk 15:30, 31 July 2011 (UTC)
Yeah, ofc Guards can't use axes, and necros can't use shields nor torches and so on... I only mentioned axe as one melee weapon of necromancer, like one of Guardian's ranged weapons is the staff. They have approximately as many alternative play styles: Guardian is more melee and necro is more ranged, but they can still do both. Mediggo 16:30, 31 July 2011 (UTC)
But most can do both melee and ranged. The reason why necros seem like counterpart to guardians is, in traditional sense (a.k.a. I wildly guess what you were thinking :P), necros put on conditions while guardians put them off. There're lots of other professions can match those 'various reasons' you mentioned, like engineers are also support-oriented, can summon turrets as pets which have chained skills (overheat) as well, give various conditions and/or boons through exlixir guns and other kits. User:GlastiumGlastium | talk 09:13, 1 August 2011 (UTC)
Uh, there's a lot more "countermeasures" than just conditions and removing them. Which I all listed on the rant page.
Melee/ranged roles: Engineers totally lack melee attack capability (compared to necro axe skills and guardian melee). And when it comes to applying conditions and boons, engineer takes somewhat of a middle ground between guardian and necromancer, because they can do both at the same time. You make a good point on summoned allies (turrets, minions, spirit weapons), but engineer is still different because turrets are immovable and preferably not expendable like minions (Taste of Death, for example) and weapons (Command dismisses the weapon). Anyways, those are my reasons on comparing guardian and necro especially. :) Mediggo 09:24, 1 August 2011 (UTC)
Well, I can't argue compared to other professions, guardians are the most likely to be necro's counterpart but still not close enough imo.

(Reset indent) Besides, you don't need to rush to complete all 7 professions! :P User:GlastiumGlastium | talk 08:39, 2 August 2011 (UTC)

lol. I'm not rushing, I'm just bored. There just isn't whole lotta information about the real game experience available until the game's out, so there isn't so much to write about. Many skills and aspects of game are still subject to change. That's why I didn't feel like writing about how necromancer is supposed to play, for example. There's just too little information for full-scale analyzation. Mediggo 08:58, 2 August 2011 (UTC)
yeah, you got a point. But as what Eric, Martin and other ANet staff mentioned several times, you'll play a profession because you like it. I myself interpret it as you'll play a profession since you love the lore, the cool animation and the mechanic about it, but not the actual/practical how you play the profession. Maybe in this perspective you can write something. IMHO. Yeah. User:GlastiumGlastium | talk 09:30, 2 August 2011 (UTC)
I think all the professions are credible lore-wise, they all got their distinctive style, etc. However, it is more important to me how the profession actually plays. It has something to do with the unique profession mechanics: I don't want a single mechanic rule how I play (ranger, elementalist and thief) but I don't want it to be too subtle and not have as active role in combat (necromancer, engineer, elementalists with favorite element) as other mechanics. That's how I feel about them, anyways. That's why I'm going to play warrior. I have already quite much pictured in my head how my character will be like and what he or she does in her off time, and I'm totally set on playing norn as well. They are obsessed with glory and making name for themselves (which gives credible lore/character background reasoning for almost anything!) and they are different but not TOO different from humans at the same time. They are also spiritualistic and wise, and not entirely barbaric, arrogant or war-like. Oops, looks like I went to great length about what I'm going to play, sorry! Mediggo 09:55, 2 August 2011 (UTC)
No need! I'm a fan, too. User:GlastiumGlastium | talk 10:54, 2 August 2011 (UTC)

Unknown Warrior

I say you name "him" Mediggo, because it's unique and cool :D Fabian 00:35, 3 August 2011 (UTC)

I'm still thinking about restrictions when it comes to naming characters. :) But since most asura and sylvari have just first name, it seems likely that there is no longer need to use full name (two names). I'm going to think and fashion my characters very thoroughly before creating and naming them, and 'Mediggo' would be a more fitting sylvari name, because I can't think off any last name to couple it with. Mediggo 05:02, 3 August 2011 (UTC)
What about Meddigo MadEgo? :D J/K User:Glastium Glastium | talk 05:08, 3 August 2011 (UTC)
I was going for that, but it struck me that they wouldn't allow upper case in the middle of name. Mediggo 05:22, 3 August 2011 (UTC)
Well, I guess that's a problem. But Brimstone doesn't care his s is not be capitalized. People will tell. User:Glastium Glastium | talk 05:55, 3 August 2011 (UTC)
Hm, was there an interview or something where the latter part of his last name was capitalized? Mediggo 06:00, 3 August 2011 (UTC)
Nope, none of I recall. User:Glastium Glastium | talk 17:37, 3 August 2011 (UTC)

GOGOGOGOGO LOOKING FOR ENGINEER TO GO TO DUNGEON SELF INVITE!!!!!!!!!!!!! --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 95.180.38.187 (talk).

Yeah, if anything, it seems that Engies will be the new 'bring me in your party or be a nub' profession.. but, who knows- multiple other professions have support abilities, and the healing power of an Engie may be no better than that of a water ele or guardian. NALANA 21:35, 25 May 2011 (UTC)
NOT healing, SUPPORT. REMEMBER. >8C Zolann The Irreverent 02:01, 30 July 2011 (UTC)
No matter how much Anet tries, it seems to me that some profession or other will end up being the most effective at healing others, and that profession will come to be seen as mandatory for all challenging content. Arshay Duskbrow 22:49, 29 August 2011 (UTC)
Didn't happen in the demos, didn't happen in the Fan Day dungeon runs, didn't happen in the PvP tourney matches. Consider that five players who can actively deal damage and control enemies (and keep their own health in check) is more effective than four effective players with a "dedicated" healer who has five weak heal skills (six with the heal turret) on long recharges. --ஸ Kyoshi User Kyoshi sig2.png 00:34, 30 August 2011 (UTC)
Of course it hasn't happened yet, people have had zilch time with the game and there is no "meta" for either PvP or PvE. But there will be. I sincerely hope you're right, and there is some logic to it, but I don't trust the masses to not create and enforce some kind of healer role, no matter how unnecessary it is. Arshay Duskbrow 03:10, 30 August 2011 (UTC)
"If you need to heal you're already losing."
Obviously there will be certain roles in which some profession or professions excel. But GW2 isn't tied to limiters like primary attribute, profession-specific armor, or even fixed player stats like attack power, critical chance, health and armor rating. Because every class can keep themselves alive, there will not be meta healer, but rather meta team/builds which emphasize teamwork. There's simply no need to heal others. It's all up to you to keep your own health bar up. But if you're taking a beating, and your heal is on cooldown, that's when your allies come in and give you a hand by controlling foe or giving boons like Vigor and Regeneration. That's called support. Needless to say, it goes both ways. If your pal is in a pinch, you shouldn't hesitate to help them.
Anyway, I'm moving this discussion because it has nothing to do with documenting Med Kit. Mediggo 06:13, 30 August 2011 (UTC)

Vunerable

Hehe sorta a fail on my behalf, thought it was spelt the same as in spanish, and thought well it would be a good idea to have it redirect, then when I redirected I realized I had spelt it wrong, but couldnt really figure out how to delete pages, and thought meh may as well leave it. But yeah just thought i would explain motive. User Jnew Sig.png 17:57, 31 August 2011 (UTC)

Yeah, we don't really keep redirect pages for other languages either. This is an American English wiki by preferred language.
If you're keen on reading, you could also head to GW2W:PP for some common wiki practices, like deleting. It's all a tad confusing at first, but at least we don't have all the policies and such rules from GWW. Yet. Mediggo 18:43, 31 August 2011 (UTC)

  1. "less than 60 mins" - I don't think so. You're saying 10 minutes shy of 1 o'clock in the afternoon is "less than 60 minutes" after 10 o'clock in the morning? You quite clearly somehow misinterpreted what I said, but how you did it I don't know. In any event it has been hours since that account has edited the wiki.
  2. No, I'm not "happy now"; but thanks for asking. You don't remove other peoples comments because you feel like it. Thanks for notifying me. I was thinking about the time interval between user creation and creation of that spam page. I apologize for misinterpreting your comment, as well as coming up with such blunt summary. I was in a hurry because I had an appointment to keep.
However, I still fail to see how time has anything to do with the issue. The page was created by a vandal and the page's contents were spam. Your comment on the noticeboard, on the other hand, was largely irrelevant to the issue, and Admin noticeboard is clearly not a place for discussion whether the vandal's edit was advertising, spam or whatnot, at least as far as I know. The user issue was clear, and content was unwanted. "As this is a noticeboard and not a talk page, please refrain from discussing." I only wanted to keep the section simple and clear for usability. This made me remove your comment from the page. I was thinking about discussing the matter, but as I was in a hurry, you made it first. Mediggo 13:51, 13 September 2011 (UTC)

Black Ops care packages actually take 5 kills, so l2p. 4 in MW3. And blops is actually pretty terrible game with poor performance and overpowered guns. MW2 has balance problems too, but at least it runs in high FPS. Mediggo 17:54, 14 September 2011 (UTC)

Professions

You definitely need to make your professions' skill lists similarly to this, so we can see what each skill's supposed to do ^^ -Alarielle- 10:50, 15 September 2011 (UTC)

I agree, but at this moment I prefer the lists to be exactly like how all the real professions' skill lists appear. I like Noxx's list, but it has some difficulties to present skills which are affected by profession-specific abilities and mechanics, such as attunements and engineer kits. I have some skill ideas for bard and berserker skills, as I didn't just copy them over from GW1 and other games, and will work on them probably next week or later. So stay tuned... :) And thank you for your feedback. Mediggo 11:07, 15 September 2011 (UTC)

Do you know if the ? image for the "unknown"/locked professions from the demo is uploaded onto this site, and if not since you appear good with images, can you upload it? (I suck with cropping images properly, and would love to use this for templates.) Danke in advance! Konig/talk 20:58, 25 September 2011 (UTC)

Me? Good with images? Thank you, sir, but I think you're mistaken. :P Haha. No, really... Yeah, I know what kind of image you're looking for, but I'm not very good with manipulating... well, I probably could do it, but I'm a little busy with work atm, for at least following six (6) hours from now on. I'll see to it after I'm officially available, if I remember. Aquadrizzt and Nisador have been uploading icons and such on their own earlier, so it might be better to ask them, too, if this is an urgent matter. (looks at timestamps) Oh well. Right icon, but I was hoping for something like File:Necromancer icon.png and the others - that is, no background if possible. Konig/talk 16:26, 26 September 2011 (UTC)
I can crop the background off, alright... but it looks like shit imo. I don't know how to make it blur nicely like with that necro icon. I took a good quality video as a source, but it doesn't help much, at least me. Mediggo 18:50, 26 September 2011 (UTC)
Locked profession.png
This one by Infinite looks much better. Referring to file history comments, I suppose I could provide the original screenshot of the video, but it's pretty dark already. I only convered this to greyscale because original had somewhat dark red tint also (I think the player was selecting ele as profession or something). There might be better sources out there, but I cannot look for any right now. Mediggo 06:57, 27 September 2011 (UTC)
I never actually considered this logo for uploading to the wiki, but I should've all the same. I am sure there is a high quality source out there that we can extract a brighter version from. - Infinite - talk 11:53, 27 September 2011 (UTC)

Kind of merge guild and birthdate on one line. Thought it may be a little bit weird. Any better idea? User:Glastium Glastium | talk 19:31, 3 October 2011 (UTC)

I think it now looks like the character joined the guild at that date. Maybe if birthdate came first, then guild? Mediggo 04:23, 4 October 2011 (UTC)
I made the change myself, since you're awfully busy anyways. =] The template as a whole looks pretty bad in my current resolution on laptop, but I think it's good on a decent screen. Mediggo 07:41, 4 October 2011 (UTC)
My concern is: will it make the guild name too insignificant? User:Glastium Glastium | talk 19:32, 4 October 2011 (UTC)
From a character's personal perspective, their date of birth is far more important than any group they associate with. It is a permanent value of a person, it determines their age and can be used for identification. From regular video game play perspective, of course it is your guild that is more important. It really depends whether you want your template to proclaim the originality and personality of the character or their gameplay attributes and abilities. Mediggo 20:52, 4 October 2011 (UTC)
I guess I'll add a parameter to satisfy those who wants the two reversed. User:Glastium Glastium | talk 18:01, 6 October 2011 (UTC)
