Hi folks.

This is something of an open letter so to speak. I'd ask as a courtesy that you refrain from editing my user page. If you take exception to my usage of the f word on my user page, let me know here and we'll talk about it - odds are I'll remove it; I've no plans of upsetting / annoying people.

It's not directed at anyone, it's just... me expressing myself. So, yeah that's about it. Not many policies here and I don't really know the powers-at-be, so I thought I'd write this just in case.

Sig redirects

Inactive proposals are just that - proposals that didn't get consensus, so haven't been implemented. When the wiki was created, there was a rush of creating proposal after proposal. GW2W:NPA as a policy isn't enforced; the concept of not making personal attacks to disrupt situations or derail discussions is. Policies

Inactive Policies does not mean they don't have support or opposition. Inactive means that it's just not interesting to people or I should say - a policy for the wiki. I do think we should have some on this wiki and decide more on things like that. Especially if so many of us want to be different from gww... Why are we trying to use their policies? What's wrong with stacking bleeding?

I've no problem spending frankly rediculous amounts of time planning my main character, but I'm not going to obsess over everything when I won't get my hands on the game for a year. I... I just want to be happy and satisfied with my first character. I deleted my main - Obsidian armor got salvaged, others merely de-Runed - to get the Survivor Title. I didn't regret the decision but... when I heard about the changes to Pre Searing, I was slightly disapproving of them. Needless to say, I did not recreate him all over again. I suppose +1 is enough for the God Walking; I don't need +2. Just it'd be nice. I do wish they'd tell us these kind of things in advance. They never seem to.

That's mostly off-topic, apologies. My point is, I want to be happy with all my choices regarding my first Necromancer. My first character in an MMORPG is always special. I like to keep them around; and if I'll be playing Guild Wars 2 much, it'd make my time more enjoyable if I could keep him. A F K When Needed 08:19, 22 April 2011 (UTC)

I feel the same way. My main/first for any applicable MMORPG (or just RPGs like D&D, don't hate) has always been a human ranger. Even if it takes completely breaking it so that it barely resembles a ranger, I will make it useful just to keep it. That may be more extreme, but I do understand how you feel about your first. I'd like to finish a whole campaign/story before having to split my attention between characters. It keeps the flow consistent, and I enjoy consistency in any story. Due to not having enough character slots to have one of every profession, plus another, I deleted my first instead of keeping him around.

I don't regret starting a new character, getting Survivor, and making it my main, but... the game wasn't as fun after deleting my first. I attribute it to being one of the main reasons I stopped playing. A F K When Needed 08:35, 22 April 2011 (UTC)

I came rather close to deleting my main in GW1, but chose not to. Fat lot of good that did me, since my 5th year was a stupid Manta (raged). My closest other is almost two years old. Dynamic Trait list on Gorani's page

Thanks for offering the help. I am not sure if you got the initial reason for the dynamic table (which is probably my & not your fault). Noxx's tables for skills are great, because the dynamically collect the info from every single skill page (e.g. Flamewall) and add that to the table. So if the skill Flamewall will get changed in the future, there is no need to manually change values (e.g. the duration of burning) on each table you use. The Dynamic effect does that for you. The same should apply to Trait lists too. I should dynamically fetch the info from every single trait that is listed there and keep icons, effects etc. up to date. The table you have left on my Userpage needs manual input every time something is changed with a single trait. That would require the user of the table to keep up to date with every change, while I would like to see a dynamic component do the work for me. I hope I was as precise as possible, with the idea & intention behind the trait table (& perhaps I don't need that right now anyway, since hardly any traits are known today) Gorani 13:27, 8 November 2011 (UTC)

Let's stop playing petty word games

Fixed width at least works to a reasonable degree on static websites, but on wikis, that don't have a custom fixed width skin, or even those that do have a custom fixed width skin, they are dumb. Look at the mass exodus of gaming wikis from wikia when they implemented it... You can't use the same design rules on a wiki as you can on a static website, and to try is bad. -- Wyn talk 21:10, 24 January 2012 (UTC)

Perhaps I was mistaken, but I thought we were talking about what is aesthetically pleasing. I do not find fixed width websites aesthetically pleasing. Please refrain from trying to invalidate my personal preference on other fixed width websites(which is, at best, a tangent of the real discussion) just because it is different to that of your own.

I'm becoming more and more sure I never should have commented on that tangent. I was making two points. The first being that I don't particularly mind one page on the wiki having a fixed width. The second - unrelated - point being that I draw no distinction between fixed width wikis and other sites; the majority look horrible. Since you passed a comment on them I thought I'd thrown in my $0.02, but I'm thinking that was a mistake.

Anyway, until it is modified so that Tanetris likes it or a new design is agreed on it's probably not worth talking about. Although I do still contest your accusation of "petty word games". You passed comment on something, I responded to it. After that, I can only assume you forgot you'd mentioned other fixed width sites or misinterpreted what I said. But whatever. To be honest, I'm not sold on the headers. Perhaps if the icons were moved to the right (may look odd, probably not as bad if the headers were as tall as the icons), or if the icons had plain borders. The headers are tarnished and faded on the right, the images are on the left and looking tarnished.

I've always liked the way your icons look, but I feel at the moment the only bad thing I can say about the page is that the headers suggest you're not sure what to do with them. The headers are intact on the left and faded and worn on the right. The icons are on the left of the headers, and look scratched and tarnished. If it was later in the day, I'd be capable of using more appropriate words, but I hope you get what I mean.

The strokes are okay. Personally I think I prefer the editcopy style strokes (of whatever colour), but yours also fit the GW2 theme in a different way.
