Fine Transmutation Stones[edit]

So it appears that Fine Transmutation Stones can now be a part of the drops. I added the data and table section for them, however it is unknown whether anyone previously got any in their chests, so I put question marks until either they update it or its agreed that its zero. Or if we find out that their drop rate has changed in the boxes or something. On another note, should we create separate totals and percentages if Arena Net changes them at all? Kenright 07:37, 15 September 2012 (UTC)

I would assume that if nobody added FTSs to the table before then nobody got them before. Whether or not it was possible to get them before I don't know, and I don't think ANet is going to say anything if/when they change drop chances for the chest. If they do say that they changed something, though, then I do think that the drop research should basically be restarted. No point in using confirmed outdated data. --Isaac20 11:40, 15 September 2012 (UTC)
Alright, today's update changed Black Lion Chests. See here. Tonics are now all the same Mystery Tonic, removing any need for us to possibly record drop rates for specific tonics. Endless Mystery Tonic is still a possibility, as I got one (A furniture one, to be exact) from the second chest I opened after this patch. I also got a single-use Black Lion Trader Express, which didn't seem to be possible before, and Instant Repair Canisters seem to always come in stacks of 2 now. Lastly, the three times I got Fine Transmutation Stones they were in stacks of 5. I don't know if that's how it was before as I never got any FTSs before, but I assume that's the standard now. In light of this myriad of changes, I think it's time that we restarted the drop research. I'm going to remove the old table and start a new table with my 16 chests opened and the anonymous 11 chests opened that was put up today and seems to have come from post-patch results. --Isaac20 12:04, 25 September 2012 (UTC)
Upon closer inspection, Mr. Anonymous's results do not seem to add up correctly, so I won't be taking them to the new table after all. On the bright side, I have 8 more chests to add to my results. I'm also going to rename a few of the boosters since the names that are currently shown on the table are horribly outdated, and don't even reflect the proper bonuses. --Isaac20 13:35, 25 September 2012 (UTC)

Tonics[edit]

Could it be of interest to investigate drop rates for which type tonics are most common from these chests? It seems almost certain by the little drop research here, and the in-game description of the chest, that the chests will always contain a stack of tonics. If so, perhaps a separate table for that would be in order, as adding 20+ fields to this table would certainly make it look like havoc? Hakiki 08:26, 31 August 2012 (UTC)

That sounds like a good idea, perhaps having the tonics area below the main table, and within the main table a "See Below" where the tonics currently are? After all, you're guaranteed to get at least one stack of tonics (and it appears that you might get that weird mystery tonic, but eh) Kenright 05:30, 5 September 2012 (UTC)

Data dump userspace page[edit]

I was asked on Reddit for an easier place to dump raw data that will then be added to the table by somebody else, for those that find editing the table on the proper page too intimidating. And so I made it. However, I am unsure of whether or not it's acceptable to link to my page from this article. Any opinions? --Isaac20 08:49, 26 September 2012 (UTC)

Exactly what I needed, thank you. The current page is too confusing, and doesn't have all the needed fields. I'll be adding to your page momentarily. --Miktar 16:46, 23 November 2012 (UTC)

Halloween 2012[edit]

Guess we'll have to make a separate table for Halloween 2012 data.

Miniatures[edit]

A 3-Set of Miniatures (Set 1) dropped out if my BL Chest last night. It was soulbound or I probably would have sold it. I was quite surprised as I didn't even know it was a drop. I recieved two blue quality and 1 green quality miniatures. Lost Vestige The preceding unsigned comment was added by 174.226.135.161 (talkcontribs).

Names and pics would be great. --Chieftain Alex 17:57, 13 November 2012 (UTC)

December 3rd update[edit]

The December 3rd update added the hair and makeover kits as rare drops from chests, according to the patch notes. In the interest of statistical accuracy, I feel this requires us to start a new table, else any recorded drops for these kits will be significantly misrepresented. Adilor 19:43, 5 December 2012 (UTC)

Since the hair and makeover kits were added to the chest drops, shouldn't we add them to the table? Razgriz3 19:18, 6 December 2012 (UTC)
I agree with OP: just adding them to the table doesn't account for the fact that prior to 3 Dec, they had a 0% drop rate. 75.36.176.77 19:44, 6 December 2012 (UTC)
I'd forgotten to add the new items to the end of the row when archiving the previous ones. --Chieftain Alex 20:24, 6 December 2012 (UTC)

December 14th update[edit]

http://imgur.com/zuTnm,axbDK#1 Here is the results of 100 opened on 12/14/2012 at around 11 pm pst. This is after the patch. One picture is sorted one isnt.

I got 1 Karma Booster, 5 Fine Trans stones and 1 Unidentified dye from one chest. If someone could add dyes to the drop table that'd be nice. Razgriz3 07:42, 15 December 2012 (UTC)

Received a Trading Post Express[edit]

I received a Trading Post Express, but there isn't one listed. (Not the perm. version.) Daddicus (talk) 04:23, 5 June 2013 (UTC)

Transmutation Crystals - one rather than five?[edit]

Just opened a chest, received one Transmutation Crystal rather than five. Normal? ~ Mia ~ 23:36, 23 January 2014 (UTC)

Not normal, but they did just update them. I will edit the drop rate page to indicate that they apparently don't drop in lots of 5 anymore. Psycho Robot (talk) 23:39, 23 January 2014 (UTC)
It is possible it was changed; I'll keep an eye out and update here if I get anything different. ~ Mia ~ 00:04, 24 January 2014 (UTC)

Mystery Tonic[edit]

I had the worst chest drop just now, with a Booster (Gathering) and 2 Mystery Potions and then 1 Mystery Potion. This could either be a bug, or the Mystery Potions do not necessarily come in stacks of three all the time now. I will be counting them as two separate drops of Mystery Potion. ~ Mia ~ 00:22, 27 January 2014 (UTC)

I will just change the header to show that mystery potions work like dyes and so you can record it as 3 drops of mystery potion. Psycho Robot (talk) 00:24, 27 January 2014 (UTC)

4/15 changes[edit]

Trait Resets are no longer available in BLC and transmutation crystals are now transmutation charges--134.3.125.114 20:21, 2 May 2014 (UTC)
Also, now we've hit 1000 entries, can we agree that booster multipacks do not drop from BL chests? — snogratUser Snograt signature.png 13:30, 10 May 2014 (UTC)

Mini mayhem[edit]

I hit "edit", then hit "back" because that table makes my brain hurt. There are two mini Caithes - the first one is, obviously, Marjory Delaqua - but I can't even find where the actual table data is. Halp. — snogratUser Snograt signature.png 22:23, 7 May 2014 (UTC)

I feex. The table header data is stored in Black Lion Chest/Drop rate/Header Psycho Robot (talk) 22:26, 7 May 2014 (UTC)
Somehow I knew it would be you. Thanks, Psycho. — snogratUser Snograt signature.png 22:29, 7 May 2014 (UTC)

Boost Enchantment Powder[edit]

A question: Does the 3 random drops also drop Boost Enchantment Powder?

I ask this because I see that the Boost Enchantment Powder drops is higher then the Items opened in some instances. Argos

Ok I Had a look at your data entries and see the following:
|Power = x | looks to be the the one that updates for Boost Enchantment Powder
|Booster = x | shows the total boosters on the table.
These values doesn't always reflect the right values when I look at the data If you opened 35 chests the | Power | can only always be 35 and the | Booster | can be what ever the total amount is this is of course what if the Boost Enchantment Power Doesn't drop in the random drops
Argos
According to the update notes, every chest opened until next Tuesday will contain 1 guaranteed BEP in addition to the 3 random items. In those 3 random items, it is possible to roll for a stack of 4 BEPs, so you could currently get 5 BEPs from one chest. It looks to me like people aren't taking the guaranteed BEP into account and are reporting it in their totals, since the BEP numbers on the page are not divisible by 4. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 12:23, 12 June 2014 (UTC)
By subtracting the Total opened from the Powder count, every line returned a number divisible by 4. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 12:30, 12 June 2014 (UTC)
Sweet that looks allot better and more accurate. Something else that now comes to light is the following: if you add op all the "Per container " values you should get the value of 3 or something close too it(I know we lose some data here because of the rounding) since there is 3 random slots. The value as it is now is 3.337. So sins the chance of a "4X Boost Enchantment Powder" is just one item shouldn't the values be 6 5 5 1 2 this gives you a value of 0.l33 "per container" and the total "Per Container" is now 2.9239. Argos
That said had another look and these items and they are ten to one responsible for not getting to 3 exactly
Instant Repair Canister (1-2)
Custom Arena Time Token (5 or 10 )
Unidentified Dye (1-2)
Mystery Tonic (1-3)
In the end to get the data 100% right one should have to have a drop rate column for each possible random drop and that then of course makes the whole thing crazy complicated and its starting to split hairs then :)

Royal Pass[edit]

I received a Royal Pass (2 weeks), but it's missing from the drop rate research data form. Can someone with more know-how add it in? --Lnxam (talk) 22:13, 5 July 2014 (UTC)

Royal Pass (2 Weeks)[edit]

Hey everyone, today I got my second Royal Pass out of a BLC, but it seems as there is no tablecolumn for it, just wanted to state this if someone got the time to add it I would be glad to correct my entries.

Booster's millions[edit]

The booster column is out again, thanks to Ajihadistalri's 10/25 and Linaomine's 28/250. Unless boosters aren't guaranteed anymore, in which case everyone else has been guessing ^_^ — snogratUser Snograt signature.png 20:14, 1 August 2014 (UTC)

I have a feeling that they didn't read the text above the table and just saw the icon of the XP booster, counting only those. I asked Linaomine about it but considering this page is their only contribution, it might take a while before we get an answer. If that would be the case, we could just max out that number since they apparently didn't get a booster multipack, but if it isn't, we might unfortunately have to remove that line. Ajihadistalri's row doesn't seem correct either, but at least it doesn't have such a big impact on the final results. User Noxx Sig.png 10:36, 2 August 2014 (UTC)

Items that drop in multiples?[edit]

Hi, I'm sorry if this is a noobish question to ask but this is the one and only wiki page I've ever edited, so I'm not sure of conventions. :) For items that can drop in multiples -- time tokens, unidentified dyes, boost enchantment powders, mystery tonics, repair canisters -- what is the number we're meant to enter? The total that we end up with, or the number of times it showed up in one of the 3 chest slots? Things like the powders seem to only ever drop in groups of 4, whereas dyes can be 1 or 2, so I wasn't sure which value to use. I've gone with the total count of each item (e.g. if I get one instance of powders, I will enter '4') for the moment. Please let me know if I should be using the other value system and I will edit it.

Also, just thought I should let you know that I got a stack of 10 mystery tonics dropping in one chest slot, so the "1-3" info on the original Black Lion chest page is incorrect now. I figured I'd let someone with more know-how edit that page if they think it's necessary. :) -- Ylvae (talk) 18:53, 29 November 2014 (UTC)

Always totals, although I've stayed away from this page since the three slot confusion started. Looks like the tonics are going to be another of those "1-3 or 10" dealies, as 1-10 would be misleading. — snogratUser Snograt signature.png 01:32, 30 November 2014 (UTC)
Thanks, snograt. :) -- Ylvae (talk) 11:40, 30 November 2014 (UTC)

Metabolic Primer not incrementing?[edit]

I've entered a value of "2" for "Primer", which I assumed to be the metabolic primer, since it was right before "Utility" (which IS the utility primer) ... however, it's displaying as 0 in the table, and I'm not sure why. Has the name of this value changed? Or have I done something wrong? -- Ylvae (talk) 11:40, 30 November 2014 (UTC)

Worked out what went wrong. That variable was supposed to be 'Metabolic', not 'Primer', according to the header page. So I've A) fixed all the incorrect 'Primer' references in the actual table, and B) changed the template that everyone's supposed to copy so that it also uses the right variable. It is now displaying correctly. -- Ylvae (talk) 16:17, 7 December 2014 (UTC)

Teleport to Friend[edit]

This new consumable was added in the Seeds of Truth release, December 2, 2014. It has not yet been added to the Black Lion Chest wiki page, nor has it been added into the table for this page. Could someone with a little more wiki mojo add it in, please? I had a look at the code for the header table but I'm reluctant to mess with it as I don't understand what the central column is for, nor how to link a thumbnail pic. Already had this item drop once for me, so wanted to add it in with the rest of the chest values. :) Thanks!

P.S. It should probably go under the Services section along with the express things and revive orbs. -- Ylvae (talk) 16:17, 7 December 2014 (UTC)

Discrepencies[edit]

I found a bunch of discrepancies between this table and the set of lists on the main BL Chest page.

These were found on the BL Chest main page, but not in the drop rate table:

  • Ancient Wood Logging Node
  • Armor Booster
  • Beast Mystery Tonic
  • Celebration Booster
  • Crafting Booster
  • Crimson Lion Dye Kit
  • Elder Wood Logging Node
  • Endless Monkey King Tonic
  • Forest Mystery Tonic
  • Furniture Mystery Tonic
  • Gathering Booster
  • Ghost Pepper Harvesting Node
  • Glint's Winter Dye Kit
  • Killstreak Experience Booster
  • Lotus Harvesting Node
  • Magic Find Booster
  • Mini Kasmeer Meade
  • Miniature Hawk
  • Miniature Raven
  • Miniature Snow Owl
  • Mithril Mining Node
  • Omnomberry Harvesting Node
  • Orichalcum Mining Node
  • Orrian Truffle Harvesting Node
  • Parrot Mail Carrier
  • Permanent Trading Post Express Contract
  • Platinum Mining Node
  • Plush Tybalt Backpack Set
  • Raven Mail Carrier
  • Rejuvenation Booster
  • Shadow Dye Kit
  • Snow Truffle Harvesting Node
  • Speed Booster
  • Strength Booster
  • Teleport to Friend
  • Unopened Beast Endless Mystery Tonic
  • Unopened Forest Endless Mystery Tonic
  • Unopened Furniture Endless Mystery Tonic
  • WXP Booster

And these were found on the drop rate page, but not on the main BL Chest page:

  • Booster Multipack
  • Custom Arena Time Token
  • Deathly Dye Kit
  • Lion's Arch Commemorative Dye Kit
  • Metallurgic Dye Kit
  • Minis 3-Pack (Set 2)
  • Permanent Black Lion Merchant Contract
  • Permanent Black Lion Merchant Contract
  • Skill
  • Skill
  • Skill
  • Toxic Dye Kit

The 2 extra Perm. bank contract lines and the one called "skill" are duplicates, probably from my accidentally keeping the name of the picture rather than the text. But, the rest seem to be exceptionally rare (first list, above) or no longer existing (second list, above). Daddicus (talk)

Items with no entry[edit]

I received 3 items for which there was no entry:

  • Glint's Winter Dye Kit (2)
  • Snow Owl mini (1)
  • Toy Miniature Egg (3)

How should I add these entries? Daddicus (talk)

I really could use an answer on this. I tried entering them, but they didn't show, so that says to me there's a master list somewhere, and these aren't in it. Please help. Daddicus (talk)
The template is hard coded to limit it to 50 items... and we already have 50 items. More items than 50 seems ridiculous >.> do we need to list every type of possible dye kit? -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 22:31, 1 September 2015 (UTC)
My opinion is that we should lump all dyes together. Separate them only into single-dye and multiple-dye packages (i.e. the ones you get X dyes, not the ones where you get one chosen from X dyes).
If we did that, that would save a few columns. I'll go dig and see if I can discern any other candidates, too. ??? Daddicus (talk)
  • The four on the left all have about the same odds, and they're all what we could call "portable services". They could be lumped together.
  • Goofy backpack skins could be an item. Daddicus (talk)
Given _a_ booster is always guaranteed, why is there even a column for "any booster", it'll always (or should be) the same as number of chests opened, the fact it currently isn't suggests someone goofed on entering their data --BramStoker (talk, contribs) 07:43, 2 September 2015 (UTC)
You CAN get two boosters, though. Perhaps we should say "enter # of boosters beyond the first", and include something explaining that. ??? Daddicus (talk)
Curious, I'm pretty sure the statistics (before the table layout was updated today) were showing <1 booster per chest average, if the above is true, that average should be 1 or greater ... I must've got lucky in my small sample size, no double boosters so far, that'd really suck --BramStoker (talk, contribs) 20:29, 2 September 2015 (UTC)
Instead of boosters, Booster Bonfires and Booster Multipacks could drop instead, which explains the missing boosters. But I think those have been removed as drops with the latest booster overhaul. Tyndel (talk) 20:33, 2 September 2015 (UTC)
It's possible they separated boosters when they made the recent booster changes. So, it may be that the second one I received was considered a different category, and that's why I got it. Unfortunately, I do not remember which two boosters came together, but I'm pretty sure it happened twice in the 51 I opened. So, it's either not uncommon, or I got very lucky (or, unlucky, depending on your perspective). Daddicus (talk)

Change the Table to Modern Times Maybe[edit]

I went to try and add what I got to the table and it's horribly long and messy and...kind of out dated? It lists things like Boost Enchantment Powder, Custom Arena Time Token, Communal Boost Bonfire(I know the bonfire has been long gone), and Metabolic Primer which, according to this page, no longer drop from the chests. Can we update it modern times or is that impossible? I see above there's a limit to how many things you can list, if anything perhaps maybe change things from 'mini a mini b mini c' to just 'minis' or 'Permanent access x' to just 'Permanent contracts' something like that so we can have more options? - Doodleplex 20:02, 23 February 2016 (UTC)

Changed entry?[edit]

I went in today to update my totals, and I found that they were all wrong. Not even close. I think someone overwrite everything I had previously typed. Can this be fixed? Or, is it even worth it, considering how ancient some of the data is? Daddicus (talk) 14:48, 21 May 2016 (UTC)

What happened?[edit]

All my numbers are wrong. WAY wrong. Last time I was in, I had 217 entries. Now I have 59? Did we have to restore from an ancient backup or something? Daddicus (talk) 05:04, 31 July 2016 (UTC)

Still waiting for an answer on this. Daddicus (talk) 00:08, 2 September 2016 (UTC)
