Talk:Beta
True?[edit]
It says in the FAQ:
So can I beta test instead?
You bet. Just like the Original Guild Wars games there are going to be public beta tests. ArenaNet have announced these will start in the second half of 2008. Biscuits 07:40, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
- It's doubtful, and I don't think it was a solid announcement either. Either way, there's no point having a separate article for it at the moment. -- Pling \ talk 11:11, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
- There is definitely no solid information on the beta test. The stuff quoted by Biscuits has been said in the press (way back in April/May of last year) which makes it as true as anything else we've got at the moment. :) A page on the beta test has been recreated several times under several different names - perhaps it is something which people are interested in when they visit here so we should provide it? --Aspectacle 22:35, 3 June 2008 (UTC)
- A redirect to Guild Wars 2 would suffice for the time being, in my opinion. -- Pling \ talk 22:54, 3 June 2008 (UTC)

- FYI, the beta has been moved forward to an unspecified date now:

Stress test[edit]
There was one on april 13th, and it was more than just a rumor. [1] [2]--Lania 14:25, 16 May 2012 (UTC)
Norn Glory[edit]
was this just a thing to make people want to play the event, like a back story of it or something... or Is Reputation coming back? I know that the "no-grind-is-necessary-if-you-don't-want-to" thing is in, and that was kinda the thing, race rep in Gw1 wasn't forced if you wanted to be good, it only made some skills (like the title skills) a bit stronger, it didn't give your character have any advantage in pvp. it was like a sec attribute system... so.. speculation or proof (with link). Norn Glory? will there be Asura Reputation too? will this make you able to buy, upgrade, sell, do things (like a mini dungeon) you normally couldn't without the reputation level? or is it only a fancy grindy title for hardcore gamers who wants reason to keep play? I count on some elite armor-skin, maybe some elite wep skins to (but doubt it) together with a title to keep track on which rep-level you're in. Zora★Diem 20:42, 25 May 2012 (UTC)
- It was just a bit of fun, probably put in so servers could brag about who got the most kills. Not linked to any title. --Eerie Moss 20:51, 25 May 2012 (UTC)
is Pre-Purchase not Pre-Order[edit]
Pre-Order Registration
You entered a Pre-Order serial code. We are currently only accepting registration of Pre-Purchase serial codes.
If you intended to pre-purchase the game, please contact your retailer. For more information about the difference between Pre-Order and Pre-Purchase, visit:
http://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/game-faq/#forty-three
beta is only for Pre-Purchase --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 129.44.172.216 (talk).
and is Digital Pre-Purchase not physical Pre-Purchase[edit]
physical Pre-Purchase can't play the Beta
"Digital Pre-Purchase" is the only Pre-Purchase that can play the Beta --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 129.44.172.216 (talk).
- Not so. Physical pre-purchase (white box) gives you a code which gives you beta access and 3 day headstart. Physical pre-ORDER (black box) gives you 1-day headstart and no beta access. --Eerie Moss 17:28, 3 June 2012 (UTC)
- it is before june 1 no matter Pre-Purchase physical or pre-ORDER physical will only get the 1-day headstart and no beta access or anything, thx to me i talk to the retailer and anet so now they just fix it --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 151.199.39.38 (talk).

Beta vs. Live[edit]
Is it true that all characters, accounts, items, etc will be erased with a clean slate when the game goes Live? 71.51.54.140 15:22, 27 July 2012 (UTC)
- Your characters and items you created/got in the beta will be erased, and will not be transfered to the actual release. I'm not sure about your contactlist, that might be transfered. -- Cyan 15:27, 27 July 2012 (UTC)
- The only things retained are your contact list and the gems you purchased in BWE3. Gnarf 15:29, 27 July 2012 (UTC)
Where's the feedback page for stress tests?[edit]
I feel the need to yell at them for using facebook as a notification system, when they have perfectly functional official blog and news sites. Which are linked from the main GW2 website. If they actually wanbt to test their system while it's under stress, they should be trying to tell as many people as possible, and the GW2 website will get more attention than some little note on another companies website. Grrr..... </ rant> Illiander 07:42, 9 August 2012 (UTC)
- And the people who wanna get into these stress test will be lookong on everypage not just the guildwars2 homepage. I've got the force on my side, no joke, guys nick name is the force and he is always checking gw2 hompage, twitter, facebook, and so many others on GW2 info. <---Neji was here---<<< 13:16, 10 August 2012 (UTC)
- Would you find it useful if the wiki added a sitenotice (like the current one about a wiki bug) when stress tests are imminent? pling 15:04, 10 August 2012 (UTC)
Stress test[edit]
I opened my beta launcher and it downloaded something. So I assume there will be another stress test these days. Or is that a false assumption? If the beta launcher won't be needed anymore, it wouldn't need to download data, am I right? — Gnarf ~ El Psy Congroo ~ 19:48, 18 August 2012 (UTC)
- The client is the same for both beta and launch so it will continue to be updated regardless of further testing. --Valshia 19:53, 18 August 2012 (UTC)
- Wut? The client's the same? Okay, didn't know that. Sorry for false alert. — Gnarf ~ El Psy Congroo ~ 20:39, 18 August 2012 (UTC)
- WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO STRESS TEST!!!!!! i think from now on i will play guild wars at odd hours for only 4 hours when it launches because i'm so used to this! 94.171.120.138 09:16, 21 August 2012 (UTC)

Wrong time zone[edit]
You pick wrong time zone for some countries for continental Europe - during summer it's not UTC+2 but UTC+1, thus, beta starts at 20:00h not 21:00 :/--83.27.135.17 18:34, 4 September 2015 (UTC)
- The timezone that you're seeing on the page under Beta#1.4.2 BWE2 — September 4-6, 2015 is calculated on the reader's end. You many want to check your browser settings. The 19:00 UTC should be correct. G R E E N E R 19:45, 4 September 2015 (UTC)
What time (in server time) does the EoD Beta 1 event end?[edit]
On 21 Aug 2021. --161.142.238.225 13:44, 20 August 2021 (UTC)
- Please note that the beta characters will disappear on August 21 at 10:00 p.m. Pacific Time (UTC-8) at the end of the event, and any gameplay progress earned while playing on them will not be saved. https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/play-the-virtuoso-harbinger-and-willbender-today/

- If you're wondering about the discrapency between the August 17, 2021 patch notes and the news post; since the patch notes are more accurate with the timezone and offset in this case (since they state PDT and UTC-7 in there, which match and (unlike the UTC-8 in the news post) are accurate for the dates in question) and as usually when they mix up the UTC offsets (or the names for that matter) like this they mean at that date and time at the offset applicable for them. In other words they ocasionally don't know which offset will apply/applies for them at that/the moment.
- Based on this, to answer your question, the first EoD elite specialization beta event will end on August 22, 2021 at 05:00 server time (UTC).
- Or in other words and numbers (unless you're observing UTC; in which case it will be mostly the same): The first EoD elite specialization beta event will end on August 22, 2021 at 05:00 (UTC+00:00) your time. Nightsky (talk) 15:31, 20 August 2021 (UTC)
Beta equipment[edit]
Beta characters are completly split from normal charcters: any progress made is not carried over from beta characters to live characters. Hence, documenting beta equipment in normal terms gets awkward pretty fast as they store the SMW properties in the same way as actually obtainable items. Currently, the beta equipment appears for example in the templates skin list or contains upgrade component which is obviously not true. Beta equipment is not available in-game to normal characters and thus cannot be used for any purposes the templates suggest.
In order to provide proper wiki documentation, these beta equipment pages should take this into consideration by setting it to unimplemented (not sure if this is even enough, both technically and documenting-wise) or by even completely disabling any SMW property declarations.
For the related beta equipment, see these edits. For an example see the skin page Exalted Masque (skin) or rune page Superior Rune of Divinity which are listing the (for normal accounts unobtainable) beta equipment: Marauder Exalted Masque. --Tolkyria (talk) 11:14, 4 December 2021 (UTC)
- Could we do some sort of "
status = beta
" parameter to separate it from items which were originally meant to actually be normally obtainable? Sunlion (talk) 11:16, 4 December 2021 (UTC)- And then clutter all related templates with availability not beta-exceptions which are completely redundant for 99.9% of the cases with no beta in sight for the next years. To be precise, currently there's still a beta event running but this ends today, so the next beta will be in two years (HoT -> PoF), or even five years (PoF -> EoD), idk..., pretty much editing effort for all the templates (also for all newly created templates in the future) for content that never was obtainable in the live game at all. For me the only really reasonable option is to fully disable any SMW declaration on those pages. --Tolkyria (talk) 12:55, 4 December 2021 (UTC)
