Guild Wars 2 (Chinese: 激战2; pinyin: Jīzhàn 2; lit. 'fierce battle 2') developed by ArenaNet and published by KongZhong. It was officially launched in Mainland China on May 15, 2014.

This article provides an overview of the Chinese release of Guild Wars 2 operated by KongZhong. For global release, see Guild Wars 2.

The buy-to-play business model was acknowledged by the Chinese market after pre-purchases topped 500,000 copies sold in the first month of operation.

Purchasing[edit]

The original Guild Wars 2 (激战2) and the first expansion Heart of Thorns (决战迈古玛) content is free to play and does not require an initial purchase of the game or a subscription fee to play.
The second expansion Path of Fire (烈焰征途) needs to be purchased from the Official KongZhong Store.

Monetization Model[edit]

Web Store[edit]

The website is a little confusing, and the majority of the purchases are made using KongZhong Points (coupon tokens), a currency unique to the Web Store. The exchange rate between RMB and KongZhong Points is 1:20.

  • Official Store - activation keys
    • Gem Mall - gems
    • Skin Mall - skins for mounts
  • One Percent Mall - highly discounted items such as Black Lion Key, Bag Slot Expansion, Bank Tab Expansion. Updated weekly, limited to one purchase a week.
  • Queen Jennah's Treasure Trove - aside from the almost permanent Royal Titles, the categories of items sold vary greatly, ranging from cheap to expensive. Frequently sell unusual items. Updated weekly.
  • Item Shop - more valuable and expensive items, such as equipment skins, mount skins, high-level infusions, ascended equipment, and even legendary equipment. Updated weekly.
  • Crystal Dragon's Treasure - the update frequency is very low, and the use is relatively small. The items sold are relatively cheap.

Gem Store[edit]

Gem Store items available only on the Chinese server.

  • Dye Identifier (染料鉴定器)
    • Unidentified dyes, regardless of how they were obtained, must first be identified using the Dye Identifier - a single use Account Bound consumable item available in the Gem Store or as a level reward.
    • Unidentified dyes can not be used in the Mystic Forge.

Web Events[edit]

Web Events in Guild Wars 2 China are limited-time activities that take place on the official website and award players with rewards. Some events include exclusive Web Store purchase privileges that are not available after the Event duration has ended.

Types of Events include:

  • Daily Web Check-in - After accumulating 1 hour of online play time, players can sign in every day and receive Mystic Coins, Laurels, Crafting materials, Tome of Knowledge, etc.
  • Deep Sea Expedition - Entering online prize draw allows players to win Crafting materials and goods from the Gem Store. Each accumulated hour of online play entitles players to one lucky draw entry, for a total of three chances per day.
  • Daily Web Tasks - Every day, players can earn points by completing a few minor tasks. Points can be redeemed for a variety of useful items after accumulating a sufficient number.

In addition to the three activities listed above, the official website will frequently conduct recharge/consumption activities on weekends.

VIP Royal Title System[edit]

Royal Club or Royal Title System - VIP status or premium membership, can be activated for 30 days by purchasing the "Royal Title Time Emblem" for 1250 gems in the Gem Store. When activated, the color of the player's name changes to pink.
