Joining[edit]

I am interested in joining the guild, but it depends on what I decide once the game is on my computer. I guess I'll go for a "maybe" User Spotina heart.png Spotina ~Talk 22:11, 29 August 2011 (UTC)

Well, we are certainly glad that you are maybe going to join us. :) -User Eive Windgrace Harbinger of the Deceiver.png 22:52, 29 August 2011 (UTC)
I'd also like to join the guild, although I'm not sure with which character, but probably my male Norn. Chad 17:23, 30 August 2011 (UTC)
Hey! I'm back again, and definitely interested in joining. I would love to be a part of it! Thanks! User Spotina heart.png Spotina ~Talk 19:08, 25 April 2012 (UTC)
Add your signature (three tildes) to this list! (OR WE WILL!) :P - Infinite - talk 19:39, 25 April 2012 (UTC)

To those interested in joining us :)[edit]

I'd like to point out that in GW2 you can join as many guilds as you would like per account. When ever you log in, your character may choose which guild he would like to represent at that time. So you will not need to dedicate only one toon to a guild :) The new system allows for you to have multiple circles of friends to hang with. --Moto Saxon 18:02, 30 August 2011 (UTC)

Really? Yaaaaah! My main can be in the Roof Runners too!--User Necro Shea mo signature.jpg Necro Shea Mo 20:45, 30 August 2011 (UTC)

Welcome![edit]

I would like to welcome everyone who has joined in recent days (Chadarian, Jnew, and the readdition of Amanda). Usually I would make a section on their talk pages, but there have been several, and not only would I feel rude adding the same message to several people's talk pages but also lightly spamming the RC, not to mention that I wouldn't want the guild to get yelled at when we're barely legal as it is, so instead I'll just say it here. So, as I was saying, welcome new members! -User Eive Windgrace Harbinger of the Deceiver.png 00:10, 2 September 2011 (UTC)

Rules[edit]

Okay, so, I have a few questions and debates about rules of guilds. This discussion is not necessarily aimed to the Roof Runners in particular, but to all guilds which enforce some kind of rules on their members. I'm starting this discussion here, because the rules mentioned on the guild/userpage incited my thoughts about the subject. To a degree, some of the following facts and opinions apply to this wiki community as well.

Guild Wars is a game rated T for teen in the United States and other countries of N. America, PEGI 12+ in Europe, and for mature audiences in Australia.

As you know, this is mostly due to violence which is present in many online games, and we also know that Guild Wars is pretty tame when it comes to violence. However, in my country and possibly many others, it is a matter of law that these age ratings are not recommendations, and must be abided strictly. You cannot buy a 18+ game if you're underage, for example (of course this is not enforced thoroughly, but it is an example). That said, I have a reason to expect you are all older than 12, and that people don't start crying about occassional penis jokes (some people do have different sense of humor), mildly offensive language towards object of discussion (NPA is a good practice), and so on. If somebody, who is over 12 years old, has never heard the word fuck or penis, it's about damn time. A healthy-minded teenager of that age will not start spamming those offensive words on every channel and forum. I stress the word healthy-minded. It's just as people play Call of Duty, and not every single of us gamers are crazy killers, stealing guns and doing school shootings. There is a reason for every one of us to expect some level of maturity, level-headedness and perspective from each of us, including ourselves.

Now, as a part of online community you know that there exists different people who hold different values and have different opinions about everything. Somebody is going to call someone an ass at some point. And this, as I have witnessed myself as a part of various gaming communities, is where everything usually goes wrong. In the game, personal attacks, harassment and offenses should be reported to the support. Many communities, when finding a member of the guild or such, will immediately remove the player's position in the community, even if they necessarily were not breaking any rules of the game. For instance, responding to an argument in a particularly offensive manner is not necessarily an offense against other people taking part in argument, but the players with authority (officers and guild leader) in a guild have deemed them offensive towards their own little community and removed the player from the guild without actually paying heed to them. Of course you I have pretty high expectations from each other, here and in game, and most of us have no reason to expect this kind of attitude or behavior from any of you. But if you're going to enforce some adequate rules on your community, which is fine, you need to take into account that some people will use those rules to gain a better standing in an argument or position in a community. In a nutshell: If it's against game terms, you don't need a rule about it. Just quiet report.

Hence I am strongly against any rules which strictly prohibit the following:

  • Cussing and swearing,
  • Mildest political, religious, sexual discussion,
  • Racism (it's a matter of perspective, and why declare anyone a racist and ban them from community if you can reasonably counter their false logic)
  • Questioning of leadership or community rules,
  • Arguing against strategy or course of action chosen by fellow players,
  • Telling others your own opinion or point of view.

Mediggo 10:02, 29 September 2011 (UTC)

Well, those are all good points. I agree those would be stupid to block/ban people over.--User Necro Shea mo signature.jpg Necro Shea Mo 11:37, 30 September 2011 (UTC)
In my whole GW "career" as officer and leader (I switch regular between that with others) I've only banned one person, and that was because he literally asked for it. If someone exceed a certain line, a border, or how you want to name it, I always solve it with a little bit of an old friend called communication. Mostly its all about interpretation from one side, and a matter of displacement of other feelings from the other. Banning is not a solution, and most guilds are way too strict in their rules. Amen. -- Cyan User Cyan Light sig.jpg 12:27, 30 September 2011 (UTC)
Without common sense, we require common rules. Without common rules, we require common sense. - Infinite - talk 14:37, 30 September 2011 (UTC)
In my personal experience, guilds without rules hold the least issues. Ironic as it may be, even guilds who pride themselves on "no drama" hold the most amount of what they want none of - simply because they want none of it. Konig/talk
My GW1 guild has 0 rules. We've never had a problem ever.--User Necro Shea mo signature.jpg Necro Shea Mo 01:09, 1 October 2011 (UTC)
As far as I know ArenaNet does not have adverts on television or kids magazines, probably the only places where you could encounter 100% "pure" teens. All the future GW2 gamers will have been in touch with the internet to know about GW2, and subsequently with the many aspects that go against "think of the children!" It is backwards to even attempt to restrict topics every single one of us is confronted with daily. It's better to accept it as normal and have moral code and common sense regarding them, lest will there be unruly behaviour (frankly, because of the lack of explicit rules). There is a reason why "rules are made/meant to be broken." What you outlaw turns against you. As long as there is some form of common sense, rules are unnecessary. Even when they *are* necessary, they should be in the background. If you tell someone to *not* do something, odds are they are 200% more motivated to do it. Worse even, they will only do it because you told them not to.
Like with all things, acceptance is the answer. - Infinite - talk 01:35, 1 October 2011 (UTC)
I would be also be against any rules which restrict the topics that Mediggo brought up with the exception of racism. I don't believe that people should have to listen to that kind of baseless crap simply because it's too stupid to deserve prohibition. Now, should people be banned for a poor taste bad joke? Of course not, nor would an instant ban for anything (racist or otherwise, ultimatums are ripe for abuse in any community) be an appropriate response, but everyone should be discouraged from being a racist prick, and even more discouraged from attempting to spread those kinds of views. Then again, that's more of a personal issue on my part, and one of the many reasons I avoid positions of power. -User Eive Windgrace Harbinger of the Deceiver.png 03:47, 2 October 2011 (UTC)
Racism is just another belief, whether or not baseless. If one said that, "All Finns are depressed, suicidical alchoholics," it would not be entirily baseless because many Finnish suffer from those symptons. Even today, it's still more difficult for colored or foreign people to land a job when there are "more suitable" candinates to be chosen. If you take discrimination out of racism it's just another opinion, no better or worse than fundamentalism or homophobia. If two people were having a discussion of racist subject, you may butt in and say I don't wanna hear/read this or you may stay out and walk away or turn off the chat channel. I don't like evading an argument when there's one, but it certainly is easier to ignore baseless accusations. Discussing on the subject in non-offensive manner is how I try to go. If it turns offensive (breaking the in-game rules or even laws) then there's time to contact authorities (officers, Support, etc.) "Member conduct: You agree not to use the Service to take any action or upload, post, e-mail or otherwise transmit any content as determined by NC Interactive at its sole discretion that is harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, tortuous, defamatory, vulgar, obscene, libelous, invasive of another's privacy, hateful, racially, ethnically or otherwise objectionable..." Every one of us has an opinion, but trying to force them on somebody who don't agree is stupid. Likewise, there's little point to argue against an opinion unless it's causing problems like gameplay choices (Flare sucks, but some prefer using it) or community hate. If a gaming community asks certain requirements from its members, such as appropriate experience, in-game progress or 3rd party communication device such as Vent or TeamSpeak and language ability, then so be it. There's plenty of guilds out there, after all, and if you hate TeamSpeak and don't speak Spanish, the odds are that you'd feel pretty out of place in the guild anyways. Cultural differences do not excuse discrimination nor disrespect towards opinions and beliefs of fellow gamers. Our ability to communicate and work together as gamers does. Mediggo 12:51, 2 October 2011 (UTC)
Made for a nice read, ill admit.
The roof runners is just a simple semi-small guild with teen humour and preferably a laid-back calm attitude to playing the game (I would nudge an age requirement of 13, but i dont want to deprive entry to the guild to anyone) . I talk to many of my different nationalities (Danish/German/Dominican/Canadian/American) of people and am not, in any shape of form racist- aside from weak stereotypical assumptions. Even if someone is signed up on the list, there is nothing stopping me/moderators from kicking them out if they have done something to deserve it. I do give second chances to people on a regular basis, so they arnt permabanned (unless of course, screwing up their second chance). I've got nothing against occasional swearing such as "Oh why the fuck did you do that" or "oh fuck." because those are not often targeted at people aggressively. Obviously I'm open to leadership criticism and i dont mind what goes on in the chat as long as it isn't directly offensive to anyone online at that time. (From what i've learnt, you cant have a happy community without the occasional talking-behind-their-back issues.) Tl;dr of course towards release I'll have more rules. Thanks for the questions, though.--NeilUser Neil2250 sig icon5 Anti.png 02:33, 16 October 2011 (UTC)
Ill make the thing I say here simple: not adding rules because some retarded people would just draw more attention to doing it because of that, would cause a bigger group of retarded people to say "I didnt know that, it wasnt in the rules" when they actually break you "secret" rules. Also, if you would only want a normal guild, you could just simply say: the same rules are here as for anywhere. As well, the only one following the age requirements are those whom are older than it. There will always be some kids sneaking into your guild. Lhimez 18:45, 20 October 2011 (UTC)

Strange, i too seem to get the page fine. Possible connection problem? But yeah. The video itself is someone attempting to jump from a roof to another, but instead falling through one.--NeilUser Neil2250 sig icon5 Anti.png 02:33, 16 October 2011 (UTC)

Id like to join![edit]

As you can join how many guilds you want, Id rather sign up as maybe for this one, while we arent spammed by random dudes. (which we are going to be at release) So, ehm... Do I only edit the page, writing my name, hm? :) Lhimez 18:56, 20 October 2011 (UTC)

yes that's all you've got to do to join this guild. --you like that don't you..The Holy Dragons 18:59, 20 October 2011 (UTC)
Yep, that's all you need to do, and welcome to the Roof Runners! On a side note, I doubt that number of random dudes joining at release will be too high, I can only surmise this group is easily findable if at least having been a wiki member for a short time and are familiar with the names of fellow members. -User Eive Windgrace Harbinger of the Deceiver.png 23:38, 21 October 2011 (UTC)

I've added myself as well =) see you all in game, on a side note. If Guild Wars 2 supports different servers to make a character on, it's best to let people know asap where the guild is being formed. Tomoko 07:44, 25 October 2011 (UTC)
Welcome welcome! Although you raise a good point, they've said switching worlds would be simple to allow players from different worlds to easily play together. Although it would be for the best to pick one for our characters in this guild to primarily reside in. -User Eive Windgrace Harbinger of the Deceiver.png 01:14, 26 October 2011 (UTC)
Fair point! Now! Hopefully we'll meet soon in-game =) Tomoko 12:28, 9 November 2011 (UTC)

I'll be there as well. Think I'll be on the Sorrow's Furnace server. -User Eive Windgrace Harbinger of the Deceiver.png 03:28, 11 April 2012 (UTC)
There's even a list of servers? Ge4ce-Talk-Contribs 15:17, 11 April 2012 (UTC)
I would list them, but I don't know how the wiki treats NDA-covered material. -User Eive Windgrace Harbinger of the Deceiver.png 06:16, 13 April 2012 (UTC)
It's how they treat with any other material that's under NDA --> it'll be removed! I was surprised that there was a list of server, then actual curious to how it would look like. Seeing how they don't release any beta population numbers and what they use to support that. But anyway! Seeing how only few are replying, (basically because this topic is unknown to nearly everyone), I guess we'll be going Sorrow's Furnace. :P Ge4ce-Talk-Contribs 06:34, 13 April 2012 (UTC)

Which Server?[edit]

Which server are we gonna be on now that the list is out? http://www.arena.net/blog/choosing-and-transferring-worlds-in-guild-wars-2 -- Amantis - 06:18, 25 April 2012 (UTC)

We will probably need 2 server because of the EU and US unless everyone is from the same region, but for US I love Sorrow's Furnace (nostalgia) or Sea of sorrow or w/e works for everyone, or why not take the one nearest to the first letter R for Roof Runner ... so it would be ... Scavenger's Causeway... yeah maybe not, but !@#$%^&* Europe have lots of good one. Tech Wolf-Talk 14:37, 25 April 2012 (UTC)
Many wiki users are going Eternal Grove (US) or Riverside (EU). - Infinite - talk 14:39, 25 April 2012 (UTC)

Server[edit]

So, As many of you know, we wont all be able to hang on the same home server. What'l happen is this. We'l have one US server, and one EU server for the guild's home. The EU server, as much as im welcome to different languages- and know a bit of most of the ones in question, Will most likely be English, It's a pain. But i cant fluently speak any other EU language, And in that case, i'd hate to seem lazy/idiotic if i didnt understand them. So we'l be sticking to one of these servers. (Keep in mind, all of these are English. FR, DE and ES aren't listed).

Happy Voting.

--NeilUser Neil2250 sig icon5 Anti.png 00:40, 15 August 2012 (UTC)

At the moment it seems that all my friends will be concentrating on Aurora Glade, so if I was to vote it would be there. Nevertheless, this comes with two more things to say: first, I don't know yet how actively representing I will be due to the fact that you can't participate in 2 guild chats at the same time; and second, as far as I know the only drawback in having different home worlds is the inability to WvW as an organised group, which not only I'm not sure if it's going to be this guild's focus, but I'd survive that for the time being anyway. User Noxx Sig.png 10:26, 15 August 2012 (UTC)
Edit: I'm taking back the second point, because apparently influence and build queues are separate on different servers, which in turn effectively destroys the prospect of having a cross-server guild... *sigh* User Noxx Sig.png 12:54, 17 August 2012 (UTC)
