Some things to note on this page[edit]

  • Hall of Monuments
  • Dialogue by Dunkoro and others that suggest that the Pact Commander is the reincarnation of this character (but only if GW1 and GW2 accounts are linked, and possibly some other unknown condition is met)

Anything else? Santax (talk · contribs) 14:41, 24 October 2017 (UTC)

This article... is not even close to accurate...[edit]

...either to Facing the Truth (which is more important here), or to the GW1 hero, who's deeds or origins are not really lost to history:

  1. There are 5 "Hero" NPCs in Facing the Truth. One of them speaks (their gender dependent either random or based on your PC it seems - my male charr necro had a male Primeval armor-wearing centerpiece; my female sylvari thief had a female centerpiece (forgot to denote appearance)). Unfortunately I didn't seem to get either group in a screenshot either. At least not one I subsequently deleted. I'll run through the step again (have to for the silly achievements anyways).
  2. gww:Young Heroes of Tyria and a few other dialogues (such as gww:Zenmai's line in her Winds of Change side quest) suggest that there were (at least) three heroes. One per campaign, with the "Hero of Ascalon" (a common term I've seen in the lore community used for the Prophecies hero) joining most if not all of the adventures (thus may be considered "the Hero" if any one is above the rest); I've seen "Sunspear Hero" used to denote the Nightfall origin hero, but no term really catching for the Factions hero.

The only thing I can comment on is the gender. When I did Facing the Truth, the instance owner was a female human, and I'm pretty sure I saw the hero NPC character that spoke as as a human male. - Doodleplex 19:50, 24 October 2017 (UTC)
Then it's likely randomized, because it was 100% female character when I did it on my sylvari. Konig (talk) 19:55, 24 October 2017 (UTC)
EDIT: Just did the mission again on my charr and sylvari. Same outcomes - male Hero on male charr, female Hero on female sylvari. Konig (talk) 23:04, 24 October 2017 (UTC)
EDIT2: And from the screenshots I took, seems two of the "Hero" npcs changed, curiously. File:User Konig Des Todes Hero difference.jpg. Armor choice remains unchanged, with Monk outfit, the three Heritage armors, and Primeval armor. Both Hero npcs that wear heavy armor got gender swapped. Konig (talk) 23:09, 24 October 2017 (UTC)
Okay, so... Did this 8 times now. Twice on male charr, six on female sylvari - sadly no other character started PoF yet so couldn't test further and saw no point in more testing on charr. 2 for 2, male speaker; 6 for 6 female speaker. The heavy heritage and the monk outfit heroes have randomized genders (possibly favoring male as of all times I only got female versions twice for those two), if the other two (light heritage and medium heritage) are randomized, I've not seen it out of 8 times, only seen female versions of them. I've done it twice now, once on a female norn and once on a female human. I'm not 100% certain, but I believe both saw a male hero. --Idris (talk) 03:37, 25 October 2017 (UTC)
Interestingly Koss on Koss (the original edition in the Astralarium) does mention the hero, but seems to specify them as Tyrian? Could this be confirmation on the Hero's origin? Or is just a commentary on Koss's adventures post-Nightfall running around with the Tyrian hero in EoTN? If that even is canonical.--108.5.151.200 10:59, 19 March 2018 (UTC)
The recent living story also mentioned Koss knowing the Hero of Nightfall. 65.189.88.113 20:53, 3 November 2018 (UTC)

Race and trivia[edit]

Konig and I have been discussing what we should do regarding the race category for certain NPCs in Facing the Truth (see discussion here). We've pretty much come to an agreement on how to handle the Facing the Truth article, but we're struggling to figure out what to do with this article. The Hero was a human, sure, but he/she isn't really a GW2 character, so it would make more sense to class him/her as what we see ingame: a vision, or, in GW2 game mechanic terms, a phantasm. However, this raises the question of how appropriate the biography section is. If this NPC is just a phantasm, the biography isn't strictly their biography, right? Personally, I feel that it's acceptable to include the bio so long as the difference between the NPC and the hero it's representing is made clear. A rewording to the intro is probably all that's needed. --Idris (talk) 03:35, 25 October 2017 (UTC)
