Steam is a video game distribution platform which ArenaNet has partnered with for the distribution of Guild Wars 2. The game was first purchasable through Steam on August 23, 2022 at noon Pacific Time (UTC-7), coinciding with the Guild Wars 2 10th Anniversary.
Account differences[edit]
- Primary article: Account
Steam accounts are able to experience the core Guild Wars 2 game for free, with the same restrictions applied to free accounts created through the Guild Wars 2 website (ArenaNet account). However, additional restrictions apply to Steam accounts:[1][2]
- Guild Wars 2 accounts created via Steam must log in via Steam. Accounts created on other platforms are completely separate and cannot be transferred over.
- Authentication options are through Steam and not ArenaNet.
- Gem codes or expansion game codes cannot be redeemed (must be purchased via Steam).
- Deluxe and Ultimate editions of expansions cannot be purchased on the storefront. However, Digital Deluxe Upgrades can be purchased in-game with
for all owned content. - Guild Wars accounts cannot be linked (only available for ArenaNet Guild Wars 2 accounts).
- Steam support handles issues with account access, management and Steam store/wallet purchases. For in-game issues and in-game gem store purchases, contact the Guild Wars 2 support team.[1]

Cloud gaming[edit]
All Steam players can play and stream the Steam version of Guild Wars 2 across their devices via GeForce NOW, NVIDIA's cloud gaming service.

- Two special limited in-game bundles have been released during the launch, offering quality of life upgrades at a discounted price:
Steam Welcome Pack and 
Steam Elite Jump-Start Package. These have been renamed to the Guild Wars 2 Welcome Pack and Guild Wars 2 Elite Jump-Start Package respectively. Their purchase is not limited to Steam players.
