Guild Wars 2 Wiki talk:FAQ

Shouldn't the link in the sidebar link to the game FaQ rather then the site one? It's a lot more relevant. Or at least put a link to it here. --Beryn 06:40, 14 June 2008 (UTC)

Because it's not relevant to the wiki as a whole, the game FAQ doesn't really need accessing from every page via the sidebar. A better place would be the main page, the access point of each user, rather than everywhere on the wiki. --User Pling sig.png Pling \ talk 18:22, 14 June 2008 (UTC)

Translation[edit]

On the official website wiki.guildwars.com and in multiple forums in the community of players, has been asking for the translation of the official wiki or at least provide access to the community so that we can translate the articles of the other wiki languages. At this site we will enjoy reading the information in other languages? or the idea will be lost over time as happened at the official website of Guild Wars 1? There are many millions of players who would be happy. Thank you very much. Pedro.

This isn't really up to us; ArenaNet will make the decision as to whether or not there'll be other-language official wikis. As this wiki started years before the game itself will be released and ArenaNet know more about wikis than they did previously, it's likely they will make Guild Wars 2 wikis for other languages. That's just speculation though. --User Pling sig.png Pling \ talk 14:00, 24 September 2008 (UTC)
I've been told that ANet will not be offering support for other languages, though I cannot recall the exact reason why. If you are interested in helping to further the possible realization of such a thing, you may wish to contact M.mendel on GuildWiki, as that is one of his long-term goals. In any case I am sure he would appreciate the support. Vili User talk:Vili 03:41, 26 September 2008 (UTC)

Outdated T_T[edit]

Another page I stumbled upon from clicking the sidebar that is way out of date after the game went live. It needs to be updated, and I'm not sure I'm up to the task. It contains a lot of old info (the game is released, wiki isn't accessible from the game - yet), devs are using the wiki to talk , wiki is linked from the official site and I bet there are more unanswered questions here.
Faalagorn/ 01:58, 6 September 2012 (UTC).

As for in-game wiki accessability, the FAQ is currently not incorrect - it is accessable via /wiki, and any further implementations are simply works in progress. I'll give this a more thorough review when I have more time. -- Armond WarbladeUser Armond sig image.png 02:18, 6 September 2012 (UTC)
I've updated the page. In doing so, I removed the FAQ about whether the GW2.com page would link to the wiki - it's obvious to anyone who looks that it does, and I couldn't find a clean way to state that without making the reader wonder who would be asking. -- Armond WarbladeUser Armond sig image.png 22:59, 6 September 2012 (UTC)
Thanks :). I think I'll try to spend some time tomorrow to sort out some of the issues I found out while browsing the community part of the wiki, hopefully trying to get everything clearly visible in one place for the newcomer (there's actually of info in one place already, a lot in Help:Contents, but when It's kinda buried at the bottom of the page in community portal, and the link on sidebar though useful, are often overlooked, at least I did. Hopefully something good will turn out from my help :).

Trying to find a standards page[edit]

Where are the publication standards kept for this Wiki? I have an idea how to arrange receivables for packages in a more streamlined fashion. Daddicus 04:13, 20 September 2012 (UTC)

You're looking for our formatting guidelines. It looks like we don't have one for general items yet, so maybe you could start one. If you're looking for preliminary input, the community portal is a good place to reach a wide audience. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 04:52, 20 September 2012 (UTC)
Yes, I think community is the right place to go first. See you there! :) Daddicus 15:45, 20 September 2012 (UTC)

regarding uploading pictures for userspace[edit]

I'm not sure where to post this so I'll do it here, haha.

Is there a reasonable limit to how many pictures you can upload for your userspace, such as pictures of your characters, as long as they're fairly small in size? IceBlink 01:35, 30 January 2013 (UTC)

Provided you tag all your screenshots with {{user image|IceBlink}}{{ArenaNet image}} there is no hard limit. (make sure you're uploading them under the right name before you go and do all the images :D ) Personally I'd stick with a maximum of 2 per character. Oh, and next time, put this question under Help:Ask a wiki question :) Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 01:45, 30 January 2013 (UTC)

Why guild pages are needed[edit]

When was the decision made to not have GW2 guild pages, who made it, and why did they fail at having them? I think it would be a good idea to have specific guild pages, other than having them in someone's user space. Reasoning for this, what if the guild leader isn't the one that is making the page?, What if the current guild leader has the *guild* page in their user space, but leaves the guild?, and other issues like this. 69.177.225.236 17:46, 1 April 2014 (UTC)

Basically we had a guild namespace on the original wiki for guild wars 1. Over the space of many years, over 8500 pages were created. Players moved on, and didn't clean up after themselves/forget/don't care, and guilds die out. The wiki pages were not kept up to date + were a mess in terms of formatting. There wasn't a way for wiki users to check the activity level of each guild short of checking forums or pming people - and bluntly that doesn't work if you have thousands of pages to clean up. Basically the data got stale and was of no use to anyone a couple of years down the line.
We didn't want to repeat that here. If guilds want webpages, they can buy a domain + host it themselves. If you want to create a website to track all the guilds of gw2, feel free to do it somewhere else. -176.26.107.213 18:03, 1 April 2014 (UTC)
A crat from gw1 also posted this lengthy post about why its a bad idea and not possible. Psycho Robot (talk) 18:21, 1 April 2014 (UTC)
And why would you want a simple old wiki page when you can fully customize your own site with tons of features at Enjin? Trust me, guilds are better off without the restrictions of wiki formatting. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 18:56, 1 April 2014 (UTC)

Joining a Party Member[edit]

Hello. I was trying to join one of my party members on Guild Wars 2 and I cannot join their server of move to their location. I invited them to a party but it does not say "Join in" when I right click their name. I'm not sure what to do. Please help me solve this problem. Thanks!

Edward Skulleyes

You'd be better off asking on the official forums (link in the page header), many more people browse them which means you'll be more likely to get a correct response quickly. As it is, I only know that you have to already be in the same map (but not same instance of that map) as your party member in order to get the "Join in" option. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 15:00, 6 September 2014 (UTC)
