PAGENAME[edit]

Avoid using the {{PAGENAME}} magic word in articles. Keep in mind you can do {{subst:PAGENAME}} and it will hardcode the name onto the article :)--Relyk ~ talk < 21:03, 14 August 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for telling me, I'm totally new to this so bear with me. =3 People were fast to fix my mistakes but you might want to know I used Valiant Estiene as NPC-page example and it had those same mishaps. Rakuin (talk) 21:20, 14 August 2013 (UTC)
We had a lot of copypasting of NPC pages doing that and it spread like a virus. Subst any magic words you see. Doesn't help that Guild Wars 2 Wiki:NPC formatting is out of date. And welcome to the wiki!--Relyk ~ talk < 21:35, 14 August 2013 (UTC)

Hi[edit]

If you're not using pagename as above, on Miner Bloop's page, use [[Miner Bloop]] and it's displayed as bold. That's what most people do. :) Valiant Estiene is fixed. I too picked a "wrong" example when I started. we get lots of corrections when we're new. You'll probably pick it up faster than I did (still learning). And welcome from me also. --Claret (talk) 21:39, 14 August 2013 (UTC)

Thank you! I'll try to not mess things up too bad while I'm learning =3 Rakuin (talk) 21:47, 14 August 2013 (UTC)
Quick remark: The wikilink bolds it because it links to the page itself. It's a trivial matter to bold or wikilink. The wikilink method is useful because it will redlink if you type it wrong ^^.--Relyk ~ talk < 21:51, 14 August 2013 (UTC)
That is so handy. =3 I'm trying to subst something just to try it out. Oh yeah, what with the --club? You both use it before your names. Rakuin (talk) 21:57, 14 August 2013 (UTC)
Ahha! I figured it out. I am so slow. --Rakuin (talk) 19:09, 19 September 2013 (UTC)

A hint[edit]

When you define a new event, in preview, if the Worlds currently active on widget is not present in the in infobox then check the name. It may well not be correct. hhtps://api.guildwars2.com/v1/event_names.json?lang=en for exact name. --Claret (talk) 13:59, 24 September 2013 (UTC)

Whoa, wall of text. Will do. Thanks =3 Rakuin (talk) 14:08, 24 September 2013 (UTC)

Strange solutions[edit]

I think you should split the events if you want two different sets of parameters, lor use level x,y, and event id = aaa, bbb. eventually I think we will split them but how and when??? --Claret (talk) 13:50, 25 September 2013 (UTC)

I was thinking of splitting them but they are identical except for the location and level, and they ARE the same event even if they have different IDs. Two infoboxes just made everything work, but if you got better idea then go for it. Rakuin (talk) 14:00, 25 September 2013 (UTC)
I usually do one infobox with both locations and ids, I'll do that until someone decides how/if we are going to split them.--Claret (talk) 16:21, 25 September 2013 (UTC)
I noticed that the currently active -widget only shows the first ids servers which made tracking those bastard rather hard. I'd prefer having the doublebox until someone decides what to do with them. Rakuin (talk) 16:33, 25 September 2013 (UTC)
Again, I have been told not to use double boxes but I'm not the wiki police. Ask for the widget to be fixed, it'll be a lot quicker than going through the events and double or multiple infoboxing them then reverting them all later. I think User:Poke is the widget writer. Some events have very large numbers of IDs associated with them. There's no real reason that the widget can't do that. --Claret (talk) 10:20, 26 September 2013 (UTC)
Hmm. The widget should show separate list for each map for it to be useful.. Yea, I'll poke Poke at some point. Rakuin (talk) 10:35, 26 September 2013 (UTC)

Memo[edit]

Nightmare Recruit (Briarthorn Den)
Soar Goldbeak
Jellyfish (NPC) wtf?

Rakuin (talk) 11:36, 27 September 2013 (UTC)

It's about the specific creature named "Jellyfish" whereas Jellyfish is (supposed to be) about the family/species of creature known as jellyfish. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 12:42, 27 September 2013 (UTC)
Shouldn't there then be somekind of link to the Jellyfish (NPC) in Jellyfish? Hm. This is not really my area.. Rakuin (talk) 12:53, 27 September 2013 (UTC)
That's what I meant by "(supposed to be)" - there should be links to all the different specific jellyfish, but that's mostly missing. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 13:08, 27 September 2013 (UTC)
Ok ok. It's just a mess of unfinished pages, not blaming you. Thanks for the answer, I just didn't actually expect anyone to reply. I put it here so I remember to check whats up with it later. =3 Rakuin (talk) 13:16, 27 September 2013 (UTC)
I wasn't mad, sorry if it came across that way. And I'm an RC hawk, I see everything that happens on the wiki. O-O —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 14:26, 27 September 2013 (UTC)

Dialogue format[edit]

Hi there, I've noticed you're changing the dialogue formats. I think it's been established the quotes (") have no place in there and the format without them is the preferred one. Why did you change that? OR did I miss a discussion on the matter? --Sialor (talk) 09:24, 28 September 2013 (UTC)

Well I only changed the format on articles I went to fix the infobox.. But I do disagree with the current dialogue format and in Guild Wars 2 Wiki:Projects/Quotes and Dialogues I have tried to wake discussion on the matter. Not many seem to care. User:Konig Des Todes insisted having the quotation marks on NPC lines and I eventually agreed. Nothing is set in stone yet but I have been trying to test some versions by implementing them in articles so I see how they look and feel. If you may, take a look of the current discussions in Quotes and Dialogues and join in. Rakuin (talk) 12:29, 28 September 2013 (UTC)
Yeah the project isn't of the liveliest and at the time I do not have the necessary resources to work on it in any substantial fashion. However, you also changed the format on the project page where I listed two major approaches (at the time) for people to choose from, you should make your own proposal. I am with you on the indentation change (which is what I saw discussed) but I feel the quotes are really unnecessary, after all they do not appear in the dialogue window. --Sialor (talk) 14:08, 29 September 2013 (UTC)
Ah. That is true, I did change that too. You can undo that or change it as you wish. I just thought it would be clearer if everything on there is similar except the particular change in proposal. I'm really glad you agree on the indents and to be honest the quotes are starting to piss me off. They are nuisance to type in every time. I'll experiment some more and see what works. I'm kinda starting to think bolding player lines is a good idea even if I was so strongly against it... Konig has some good points about the quotes but if we have the bolding on PC lines and italics on NPC lines and the text that is not NPC quotes would be in nonitalics and I'm just thinking while typing now. Oops. Rakuin (talk) 20:46, 29 September 2013 (UTC)

Ah no. I get it. Ha ha. Rakuin (talk) 19:25, 4 October 2013 (UTC)

NPC quotes[edit]

Isn't it better to have quotes related to the NPC within the NPC's page? Pages like Tyler or Grandpa Pritchard now look really empty, and the information that's related to them is crammed into the area page, which may seem silly if the area is extremely large. Just my two cents. --Ventriloquist (talk) 22:40, 28 October 2013 (UTC)

No. Usually there are more than one NPC talking and you'd have to put the dialogue in several pages. Unnecessary repetition. That the NPC page looks empty is not reason to fill it with stuff that would rather belong to somewhere else. Ambient dialogue to belongs to the area pages and event dialogue to the event pages. I might argument on this matter more when I'm not this tired. Rakuin (talk) 22:55, 28 October 2013 (UTC)
Seems reasonable. --Ventriloquist (talk) 22:57, 28 October 2013 (UTC)

Nightmare Unveiled/Dragon Bash[edit]

Hello again. While the text would suggest the dialogues differ based on character's participation in Dragon Bash as I've written in the talk page I took part in it and still didn't get recognized, hence the verification request. Also, the last dialogue doesn't get a different beginning, if Marjory recognizes you she will say a line before you get to the line that is the same for both (i.e. Marjory's dialogue is A->B->C if she knows you, but only B->C if she doesn't, not A->B/A'->B as is usual). I'll probably just revert the changes. --Sialor (talk) 23:09, 30 October 2013 (UTC)

Ah, now the weird indenting makes sense. I was so confused by that. I still stand by the changes I did for Kasmeers dialogue, but let's put the indents back on Marjory. Rakuin (talk) 23:51, 30 October 2013 (UTC)
Kasmeer's dialogue is weird on its own. She has different beginning and ending and only the middle is the same for both cases. But it's probably better to leave it there twice. --Sialor (talk) 23:16, 31 October 2013 (UTC)
Do as you see is best. I put some curious observations here about the Dragon Bash problem thing. Rakuin (talk) 23:30, 31 October 2013 (UTC)

Whoops![edit]

I hadn't seen that at all (about NPC names in interactive dialogue), actually. Thought it was still the trend. Apologies! --Vaught (talk) 20:20, 17 November 2013 (UTC)
