Guilds are more important in WvW now that their role has been completely revised in the Heart of Thorns expansion.

Characteristics of a Great WvW Guild[edit]

  1. Lots of members who enjoy WvW.
  2. Daily, organized WvW raids, squads or zergs
  3. Build War Room upgrades, especially Auras.
  4. Understanding of WvW Strategy (most new) and Tactics (mostly unchanged).
  5. Preference in missions tab of Guild panel set to "WvW" or "No Preference".

WvW Tactics[edit]

The tactics of running a zerg are mostly unchanged from pre-HoT tactics. However, new elite specializations may have a significant effect on individual player abilities.

WvW Strategy[edit]

The strategy of maximizing the war score of a world has changes a lot with HoT. To successfully capture and hold objectives:

  1. Consistently win Collect power cores and return them to a research camp to help charge the Skysplitter
  2. Build Auras, Tactics and Improvements in the War Room. Use them during Guild Claiming.
  3. Coordinate with other WvW Guilds to claim more objectives on the same map at the same time. Similar objectives may be concurrently claimed on other maps.
  4. 24x7 defense of captured objectives by small force using pre-scheduled commitments. Additionally, contribute to multi-guild, quick reaction team prepared to assist any attacked objective using emergency waypoint.

Best WvW Guilds[edit]

For now I am keeping the criteria simple, and easily demonstrated:

  1. Number of Auras built in the War Room.
  2. Largest claimable objective.
  3. Slotted Tactics and Improvements.
