It should be implementable in it's current state; opinions? Aqua (T|C) 19:32, 28 December 2011 (UTC)

Colour switch for boons and conditions, and I'd say it's fine. Would need to update the common, though. Is there really not any other information we can list? - Infinite - talk 19:34, 28 December 2011 (UTC)
Colour switching could only occur with updated CSS or a ton of hacky code... :/ When we figure out all the infoboxes and their relative color schemes we can pester some admin and they can update the CSS with all of the infobox colors. Aqua (T|C) 19:42, 28 December 2011 (UTC)
Only the former, we can start moving on from hacky coding. I agree with switch statement after the colours are all finalised. - Infinite - talk 19:50, 28 December 2011 (UTC)

?Has game icon[edit]

Thats kind of an inaccurate property name to include the {icon} parameter, since its really only used to link to Alfa-R's tangos... -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 17:55, 3 May 2013 (UTC)

Those are icons for boons and conditions. There are like 500 other effects.--Relyk ~ talk > 19:45, 3 May 2013 (UTC)

IDs?[edit]

Shall we add ID property? Effects can be linked and they have the same link type as skills, so... E.g. Belcher's Bluff (effect) is . MalGalad 22:21, 10 July 2013 (UTC)

Seems like a good idea! -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 22:25, 10 July 2013 (UTC)

New parameter[edit]

Should we add a new 'parent' (or 'parent-skill', or 'skill') parameter? Some skills like Tornado trigger their own effects, actually a lot of skills trigger their own effects, we could reuse this parameter do resolve effect's icon and name if both passed values are 'parent'. Thoughts? – Valento msg 03:32, 12 January 2014 (UTC)

A lot of effects can come from multiple sources, e.g. Fire Shield (effect). —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 06:12, 12 January 2014 (UTC)
For skills like Tornado specifically, these are generally transform effects but the effect icon and name can vary from the skill itself although the effect and skill match most of the time.--Relyk ~ talk < 07:35, 12 January 2014 (UTC)
Ah, cool, then it's fine as it is. :) – Valento msg 17:32, 12 January 2014 (UTC)

New parameter redux[edit]

What about a parameter for profession, similar to the skill infobox template? It would allow us to categorize unique profession effect pages without having to clutter up other effects like auras. Examples:

 • Necromancer:
 1. Death Shroud (effect)
 2. Lich Form (effect)
 3. Plague (effect)
 4. Spectral Armor (effect)
 5. Spectral Walk (effects) - two different effects
 6. Signets (passive effects) - more precise descriptions
 7. Dark Binding - different name than parent skill (Tainted Shackles)
 • Guardian:
 1. Virtue of Justice (effect)
 2. Resolve (effect) - different name than parent skill (Virtue of Resolve)
 3. Virtue of Courage (effect)
 4. Signets (passive effects) - more precise descriptions
 5. Binding Blade (effect)
 6. Hallowed Ground (effect)
 7. Purging Flames (effect)
 8. Renewed Focus (effect)
 9. Tome of Wrath (effect)
 10. Tome of Courage (effect)
 11. Strength in Numbers (effect)
 • Mesmer:
 1. Portal Uses - different name than parent skill (Portal Entre/Exeunt)
 2. Illusion of Life (effect)
 3. Mantra of Distraction Ready - different name than parent skill
 4. Mantra of Pain Ready - different name than parent skill
 5. Mantra of Concentration Ready - different name than parent skill
 6. Power Return - different name than parent skill (Mantra of Recovery)
 7. Mirror (effect)
 8. Illusion of Defense - different name than parent skill (Phantasmal Defender)
 9. Blur
 10. Distortion (effect)
 11. Phantasm Distortion
 12. Illusionary Counter (effect)
 13. Illusionary Leap (effect)
 14. Riposte (effect) - different name than parent skill (Illusionary Riposte)
 15. Morphed - different name than parent skill (Moa Morph)
 16. Hide in Shadows (effect)
 17. Signets (passive effects) - more precise descriptions

Depreciating the need to have the 40px versions[edit]

It looks like Anet has updated effects to be 32x32. Could we drop the need for using the 40x40 tango icons? So, I hadn't realized the tangos were used for such a cleaner look. I have uploaded over the lower quality versions to match what Anet uses. A few icons I could not gather 32x32 versions:

* :File:Agony 40px.png
* :File:Defiance 40px.png
* :File:Unshakable 40px.png

All this said, not sure now if replacing the 40x40 tangos is wanted/needed. G R E E N E R 07:01, 6 August 2017 (UTC)

So nearly a month later I come back to this, sorry.
It appears that most decisions on using tango icons were made either before the game was released, or a few months after. The use of tangos was based on a few reasons:
 1. Most images we had of the icons were from screen caps.
 2. Tangos were cleaner than many of the original icons that we could grab.
 3. We could create scaled versions of our tangos to use in many contexts.
Anet has since done a few passes on their icons to clean them up and unify the style. I still believe that tango usage for professions and elites is necessary for many of the above reasons, but for effect, I no longer see the need to have separate icons for the wiki. The Anet icons are simple enough and unified. G R E E N E R 18:55, 1 September 2017 (UTC)

Certain effect icons are not showing up[edit]

Examples: Champion's Sun (effect), Xera's Fury, or Warmth (Koda's Flame). It's only when the name has an apostrophe. Tyndel (talk) 20:26, 3 September 2017 (UTC)

Sorry about that, #titleparts to the rescue. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 22:40, 3 September 2017 (UTC)

Duration paramater[edit]

I think a duration parameter should be added to the infobox. Despite many effects having a certain duration (not speaking about boons here), we seldom document it, and if we have it it has to be written under Notes, which is really not ideal. ~Sime 01:14, 22 June 2022 (UTC)

We already have for the parameter "max duration" for "stacking = duration" so having two parameters called "max duration" and "duration" might be confusing; could we reuse this parameter for the case "stacking = no" (default)? I admit there's a slight difference between a stacking max duration and a non-stacking initial duration, but still for both somehow it's the maximal obtainable duration. For example we could remove the "Max" from "Max duration" to simply display "Duration" in the infobox for the case "stacking = no". Furthermore, we would need to adjust the code, currently it supports only seconds which is automatically added as suffix, we might want to give the editor full control anyways.
However, if you completly disagree, sure, I can add this parameter. --Tolkyria (talk) 07:31, 22 June 2022 (UTC)
Hm, you can attribute it to me editing very late, but for some reason I kinda overlooked there is the max duration parameter, lol. In this case I guess it's okay and I can use that one. Thanks anyway, Tolk. ~Sime 17:55, 28 June 2022 (UTC)
Nvm, it takes the duration only in seconds. It looks weird seeing "Max duration = 43 200 seconds", could that be tweaked to show seconds/hours depending on the input? Since some effects are in seconds, minutes, or hours. ~Sime 18:10, 28 June 2022 (UTC)
