Personal Waypoint[edit]

For a short period we were able to measure how far away the personal waypoint was by dropping it and then finding it in the minimap and hovering over it with the cursor. This functionality was very useful for mesmers to ensure that they were not exceeding the 5000 unit limit for portals. It also helped in mapping or describing a more precise location for finding things again (12,500 from the POI). This was a useful function. I would like it back. Waypoint Inconsistency[edit]

there was a change made here talking about the inconsistency mentioned in the notes. The referenced twitter conversation can be found here. I did revert this edit but am no longer 100% sure this would be correct to revert, however in order to not undo an undo and be wrong causing another undo... I left it. Feel free to argue for or against the content presented. -Darqam (talk) 22:59, 3 November 2016 (UTC)

What was your reason for reverting it in the first place? There's no policy against un-reverting yourself if you think you made a mistake. I personally would like to see a more official/serious confirmation, but I think it's likely that if ANet didn't intend this interpretation before they will now. - Felix Omni 16:57, 4 November 2016 (UTC)
My initial reason was that there was no comment saying flat out 'yeah that's 100% correct', it was more saying 'well you're theory doesn't have holes in it'. So to me that is not a confirmation of the theory, therefor does not qualify as 'fact'. If other people see this differently however, then it could be worked on. I mainly just want it to be clear that there was that conversation and don't want to pass my judgement as absolute. -Darqam (talk) 17:41, 4 November 2016 (UTC)
I added this theory to the list of questions for ArenaNet since it doesn't seem like something we can resolve without getting confirmation. Until then we should regard it as speculation and leave it off the trivia section, I think. - Felix Omni 17:24, 8 November 2016 (UTC)

Missing date[edit]

The Addition of Waypoints section is missing the date for when 2 waypoints were added, bring the total to 486. I don't know which ones they were though. --Intricity (talk) 05:09, 30 January 2017 (UTC)

The 2 waypoint addition was before they removed the WvW waypoints from map completion, and is listed on that list. It was February 26, 2013, and it added the Langmar Estate and Proxemics Labs waypoints --Gimmethegepgun (talk) 06:28, 30 January 2017 (UTC)
Yes, I know those are on the list. However, the count does not add up. There are 486 waypoints required for map completion. The table shows that there should be 484 waypoints. Therefore, it is logical to assume there was an update that happened after 18 November 2014 that was overlooked and not added to the table, or there was some update before then that was not noted in the table. Intricity (talk) 20:31, 30 January 2017 (UTC)
Or someone could have been wrong about the -29. Or someone might have excluded the waypoints which Mordy disabled (I'm not sure how many exist, but it would be remarkable if it were two). G R E E N E R 20:47, 30 January 2017 (UTC)
It occurs to me that there's 28 WvW waypoints, not 29 (6 per BL, 7 in EB, 3 in OS), which increases the problem (?) --Gimmethegepgun (talk) 21:22, 30 January 2017 (UTC)
Is the Aerodrome waypoint required for map completion? It might account for one of the missing waypoints from the table. Intricity (talk) 00:47, 27 April 2017 (UTC)

Validated formula[edit]

I've updated the cost section of the article. I've moved the notes up a bit, removed the tables, and revised the formula to fit with this conversation on gitter (lye posted some psuedo source code). Whilst the previous tables were correct where the distance between target+source was zero (i.e. the sum of C2 + 0.78*C1), I don't think it is necessary to show. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 23:51, 24 April 2017 (UTC)

Possible Trivia[edit]

Could the phrase "we've miniaturized the magic of an Asura Gate into handy, portable beacons" from Genius Operated Living Enchanted Manifestation in GW1 be mentioned as a possbile origin of the Waypoint device? Seems plausible, and the crystal looks visually similar i.e. blue floating crystal with stone surrounding it. Jyenh (talk) 05:53, 6 June 2020 (UTC)
