Talk:Springer

I had to pay 5g for the springer, no idea exactly how, but either 24 hours after initially completing the heart and/or completing the heart after obtaining the mount through end of dragons

Raptor Master 3 needed?[edit]

I needed Raptor Master 3 in order to be able to purchase the Springer, if its intended, we should mention it on the wiki as a requirement77.57.113.150 14:56, 28 September 2017 (UTC)

It's mentioned in the unlocking section - "The raptor's Canyon Jumping mastery is required to jump the gap.". —Ventriloquist 15:08, 28 September 2017 (UTC)
While that is stated there on the page on how to reach the area, I think they mean actually buying the mount from the NPC. Was was it locked in the vendor tab or where you unable to start the heart until you had raptor 3? - Doodleplex 18:15, 28 September 2017 (UTC)

Talk page?![edit]

Btw... there is a talk page. And: the browser Firefox needs 300px or more to actually animate the gif. --Tolkyria (talk) 14:18, 1 February 2019 (UTC)

I added another row to accommodate the size of the Springer gif compared to the other mount pages which are more horizontal-ish. This way this works out for everyone. Skrittman (talk) 15:04, 1 February 2019 (UTC)
What exactly is the problem with having the gif "spill out" into other sections? Not really a fan how the gallery looks right now. User Incarnazeus Signature.pngtalk 15:11, 1 February 2019 (UTC)
The gif is much more related to the gallery section than anything else on the page first of all, and it looks quite ugly visually to have the gif border pretty much clipping against the section headers below. If there's a better way to sort out the gallery to make space for the gif it would be great but the way it was originally wasn't visually pleasing at all. Either that or incorporate the gif into a gallery entry itself. I don't personally see the point in having the gif be its own separate thing running at all times on the page when gifs on other pages are only visible when clicked on. Skrittman (talk) 15:37, 1 February 2019 (UTC)
Honestly, the gallery looks horrible right now. Please go with <gallery perrow="6"> even if the gif clips into the next section.
Fancy title
What about adding a frame around the window? I think this makes it look less out of place.
What about using {{Gallery widget}} (Edit: No longer needed with mw:Extension:MultimediaViewer. --Tolkyria (talk) 19:17, 24 June 2021 (UTC))? This will create an overlay instead of an redirect when clicking at the images. So my suggestion is:
[[File:Springer animation.gif|300px|right|thumb|Fancy title]]
<gallery perrow="6">
File:Springer 1.jpg
File:Springer 2.jpg
File:Springer 3.jpg
File:Springer 4.jpg
File:Springer 5.jpg
</gallery>
--Tolkyria (talk) 17:36, 1 February 2019 (UTC)
My final opinion is that all mount gifs throughout all pages should just be included as singular gallery entries. There's no reason I can think of why they should be standing out on the page on their own. Plenty of other pages, like legendary weapons (ie. Claw of the Khan-Ur), have gifs on them but they're delegated to the gallery and need to be clicked on first to be seen played out. This way people can choose whether they want to see the gif or not, it avoids spacing and overflowing problems and in my mind looks much better on the whole. Of course, descriptions could be added to further draw people to the fact that these are gifs and not simple images to avoid confusion. I think this would make the most sense as well as be consistent with gif usage seen in other pages on the wiki. Skrittman (talk) 17:45, 1 February 2019 (UTC)
Why not move the animation under the Notes section so that it's flush with the Trivia section that is describing the idle animation of the mount. That is what the gif shows, and I imagine, why it was created in the first place, and images being down by notes and trivia is perfectly fine and done all the time(example & example & example). That way it doesn't clip anything and, unless you're viewing it on my ancient as dirt phone, it looks fine. - Doodleplex 17:51, 1 February 2019 (UTC)
What would be the logic of simply changing the location of the gif from the gallery to the notes? It would make even less sense than it does now. The only real problem here is that the gif spills out in the way that looks ugly but at least it's in the most related section on the page. Edit: I also think the example you linked with the Vigil Keep looks pretty bad too, would be much better with a gallery entry instead. The image just feels out of place as of now. (Reset indent) There is this adorable unused image, see right.

Adorable unused springer art

So what about this:

[[File:Springer animation.gif|300px|right]]
;Screenshots
<gallery perrow="6">
File:Springer 1.jpg
File:Springer 2.jpg
File:Springer 3.jpg
File:Springer 4.jpg
File:Springer 5.jpg
</gallery>

;Concept art
<gallery perrow="6">
File:Springer (concept art).png
</gallery>

Then nothing would clip and if you don't like the extra gif move it into a gallery. With the widget {{Gallery widget}} it creates an overlay which seems fine to me too. --Tolkyria (talk) 19:48, 1 February 2019 (UTC)

But what is the point of adding an image right outside of the gallery? The gallery is used to hold a bunch of images and various other material like gifs and such. Hence, this image you brought up should also go into the gallery as well then. Edit: At the very least, the image you provided would be much better than the one currently used at the top since it doesn't have any rider and only shows the Springer proper. Skrittman (talk) 20:10, 1 February 2019 (UTC)
Me (above): " if you don't like the extra gif move it into a gallery. With the widget {{Gallery widget}} it creates an overlay which seems fine to me too." If Doodle likes it too and noone else complains...
Stephane Lo Presti uploads: The adorable springer seem like to be THE springer image. --Tolkyria (talk) 20:26, 1 February 2019 (UTC)
My bad, I misread that. I didn't actually notice that this was concept art, thought it was a render or something similar. It looks similar enough to use as the header image though I feel. I'll make the move and see how it pans out. :Skrittman (talk) 20:35, 1 February 2019 (UTC)
To answer the gallery question, not everything needs to be, and sometimes shouldn't be in the gallery for technical reasons(.gifs, don't usually work too well when they get too small), as somethings look better and belong outside of the gallery for reference purposes. Anyway, out of curiosity, I'm not sure what this clipping is everybody's talking about, I'm not having any issues at all and wonder if it's just a small screen resolution thing or a specific browser issue. - Doodleplex 20:38, 1 February 2019 (UTC)
I've been on this page on both a smaller laptop and an office PC while in Chrome and the gif looked equally as bad on both. Either way, most if not all gifs I've seen on this site have all been placed in galleries where they can be clicked on if one wishes to look at them so I don't know why gifs on the mount pages should be the exception to that. Skrittman (talk) 20:44, 1 February 2019 (UTC)
Not that I'm a fan of them being in galleries but, .gif is just a file type, and doesn't mean it's animated. If you're gonna stick .gifs in galleries, you're going to have to clarify that it's an animation, not that it's a .gif, otherwise people are just gonna skim past and not care. - Doodleplex 21:08, 1 February 2019 (UTC)
True, I suppose specifying wouldn't hurt. Skrittman (talk) 21:15, 1 February 2019 (UTC)

(Reset indent) Just adding my two cents since I also think it looks weird with it overflowing to the next section. I think it makes sense for it to be part of the next section, the purpose of that pic is to show the idle animation and that is mentioned in the other section. Also, it should be framed with a description yes, with the original format it was just floating around with no reference of what it was about. If it's going to be put in a gallery then yes, it should state in the description that's an animation, otherwise people would just take it by the thumbnail then move away.--Txonä Atan - (talk) 23:03, 1 February 2019 (UTC)

Springer mount can be 5g somehow[edit]

I had to pay 5g for the springer, no idea exactly how, but either 24 hours after initially completing the heart and/or completing the heart after obtaining the mount through end of dragons Non-mouse (talk) 02:18, 26 May 2023 (UTC)
