What news are we going to put, only news from guildwars.com, or any news we see? RT | Talk - A joyous wintersday to all 08:48, 24 December 2007 (UTC)

i think that we put only these new that we see from offical sites. But news from cites like PCGamer or other websits will be added too. Just my view.--The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:Sophie Mannerheim .

Linking to our News site over at GWW isn't really helpful imo. It doesn't have alot of news related to GW2. Instead I think we should try to write summaries or short links to recent items published elsewhere about GW2 (or simply link to our article about the subject, when applicable). - anja talk 02:06, 27 December 2007 (UTC)
/Agree. GW1 news for a GW2 wiki is kinda pointless. Links to articles containing info, be it release dates, beta, or just lore/storyline info would be good, maybe with short summaries? Or maybe anything Anet staff says pertaining to GW2, similar to Gaile Chat Logs. Calor (t) 02:36, 27 December 2007 (UTC)

Are these news links in some type of chronological order?

I think it belongs here. IMO we should also add a link to the investor materials if they're available online. -- User Gordon Ecker sig.png Gordon Ecker (talk) 09:00, 22 February 2009 (UTC)
Apparently the document in question is available online, but I haven't been able to find it. I was able to find a joystiq article which mentioned the release window. -- User Gordon Ecker sig.png Gordon Ecker (talk) 09:08, 22 February 2009 (UTC)
I don't know how to edit the main page and add the link, but here's the report in PDF; http://www.ncsoft.net/global/ir/prfile.aspx?ID=46D262B4-9ED2-4B9F-BC36-236B105053E4 24.15.93.154 21:13, 2 May 2009 (UTC)

A bit more formal structure...

I've added topic headings with editing directions. I have not (yet) moved any of the items in the external links section into the topic sections. If any of you want to work on this, please include a very brief description of the topics covered. If you think other topic headings should be added, by all means, do so. --Max 2 23:44, 28 July 2009 (UTC)

The only thing I would ask is that you do leave a master list at the bottom of everything in chronological order, that way those of us that read everything can easily keep track of the stuff we haven't seen yet. (Satanael 16:37, 29 July 2009 (UTC))

Snow Battle

Wouldn't the "Snow Battle" concept art be considered news?-- Shew 16:16, 1 August 2009 (UTC)

It seems that the winners of the Into The Pixel contest (http://www.intothepixel.com/artwork/2009_contest_winners.asp) were announced on June 1, 2009.-- Shew 16:20, 1 August 2009 (UTC)

Date

Why is the month not written out fully, and why is the date in a 'year month day' format? I prefer the usual "February 16th, 2009" (as it is as the bottom) as opposed to "2009 Feb 16". --User Pling sig.png Pling \ talk 14:07, 2 August 2009 (UTC)

Imo, we should use MLA formatting like the official site does (2 August 2009), but whatever works for me as long as it's consistent.-- Shew 15:02, 2 August 2009 (UTC)
If you want, we could go to all numbers, but I really do want the year first and then the month for when I'm trying to do something after 36 hours without sleep. You know, make the order so obvious that you can't mess it up... (yeah, like it can't be messed up even that way... <frown/>) --Max 2 18:39, 2 August 2009 (UTC)
Well...in rank of importance, I guess the year is more significant (then the month...then the day). It narrows it down.-- Shew 18:45, 2 August 2009 (UTC)
In which case, let's use the full name for the month (which will result in having less to mess up ^^) --User Pling sig.png Pling \ talk 18:49, 2 August 2009 (UTC)
lol, ok-- Shew 18:53, 2 August 2009 (UTC)

Formatting

I think the large gaps between the dates are unnecessary, and if anything make it harder to scan or skim the page. "Let the people doing the work set the style" - the thing is, there are other people who are reading and viewing the page, it's not just a page for the editors; the former are most important. This page and its style does not belong to anybody, and sorting the links does not automatically give one the rights to dictate its format. The fact that these large line gaps have been removed several times should indicate they're not wanted.

Another thing - I think we need to split the 'other sources' section since almost all of the information we've had about Guild Wars 2 (and likely the information we will get about Guild Wars 2) has come from magazine articles and websites. --User Pling sig.png Pling \ talk 15:47, 5 August 2009 (UTC)

I've made a test formatting version (with a few clean up stuff) in my sandbox, which I think is easier to read/skim/scan, more compact, and well.. prettier than the current version. --User Pling sig.png Pling \ talk 16:16, 5 August 2009 (UTC)
I like what you have in your sandbox; one thing: I know "Lead Concepts Artist" sounds weird, but that's how Kekai has the position listed on his website (maybe it was a typo); anyways, the chart is much easier to read through. I think it should be chronological, though.-- Shew talk 17:13, 5 August 2009 (UTC)
Oh, you know what? I didn't realize the articles that don't fit in chronologically are second parts. Yeah, I think that works perfectly.-- Shew talk 04:36, 6 August 2009 (UTC)
It's been a week, nobody has bothered to convert any more of the old entries to the new form, and I consider the new format you two imposed so ugly and inappropriate that I want nothing to do with it. --Max 2 15:01, 13 August 2009 (UTC)

Official Website

Just a shout to everyone out there that the official guild wars 2 website is up, and as such ive added it 2 the external links page, only the logo is presently shown on the website, but since news is anticipated in the next week, i assume this situation will change tyrion 20:45, 18 August 2009 (UTC)

Official news...

...Is still an ugly section, though. I'm happy with how the "Other sources" section looks (it's clean and organized now), but the "Official news" section is still ugly. I'm wondering if there's a way to keep the information currently there in a less cluttered way (and please, no more of those impossibly ugly tables). Erasculio 23:36, 23 August 2009 (UTC)

I think the other sources part is good - there isn't much you can do with it really. I'm not sure about the official news section. My thought is that we could do some editorialising and rather than have a list of dates, we could have a list of headers like "Guild Wars 2 trailer revealed!", "More concept art teased", "Social network opens", "Guild Wars 2 news coming" and rewrite the bullet points to be a little story, like with the news which usually comes from Anet. If you like the idea I'm happy to do it. --Aspectacle 11:26, 24 August 2009 (UTC)
Go for it, IMO. Erasculio 22:42, 27 August 2009 (UTC)
That would be great! However, you will have to maintain the dates somewhere there as well to avoid future confusion. · LOQUAY · 08:52, 28 August 2009 (UTC)
I've had a go - you can see the result on the page now. It was a little lossy, particularly our wiki news for today for the art page. I copy and pasted the Guild Wars 2 news from the Guild Wars site, but I think that is confusing mixed with our news. Can you think of a good way to handle news from the GW site and our compilation of the same? I was considering a "wiki news desk" or "official site" tag beside the date? I'm also a bit iffy on the date format - so if there are any better ideas for that please go ahead and implement them. --Aspectacle 09:04, 28 August 2009 (UTC)
Heh, I really like how you have writen the little bits of news - they are fun to read, especially the titles you have given to each section : D My only suggestion would be to, instead of relaying website news from Arena Net's point of view, rewrite those entries so they would be from the point of view of the wiki (which is how most entries are, anyway). So instead of "We've added an art page to the Guild Wars 2 site!", it would be "Arena Net has added an art page to the Guild Wars 2 site!". Erasculio 11:26, 28 August 2009 (UTC)
Thanks. ^_^ I've done as you suggested and changed their news to be in wiki POV. --Aspectacle 21:56, 28 August 2009 (UTC)

2008?

So, the official news section jumps straight through 2008. I know we didn't get much, but didn't we get something in 2008? (Satanael | talk) 03:59, 21 October 2009 (UTC)

Next to nothing, iirc. The only thing I can think of is they cancelled the beta. Although, whether there was a specific announcement/statement on this I can't remember. There was some confirmed concept art from a competition and Regina saying she'd played it, but that was all early this year, mostly not neon-lights and news-flash stuff. :) -- Aspectacle User Aspectacle.png 04:15, 21 October 2009 (UTC)
Just checked it out. The original official GW2 FAQ was first noticed on 27 June last year, this had the updated beta information in it. -- Aspectacle User Aspectacle.png 06:42, 21 October 2009 (UTC)

Beta and release date info

For this new info, I think this would be a better source. I know the first source is where the second one came from, but the second puts it in writing so people don't have to sift through an hour long audio file to find it.

On that note, I know it's fine to put that in the page here, especially since N4G seems to go with it. But having listened to the file, I'm not really convinced we should be too definitive about it. When the guy in the audio file said "public event" in 2010 and release in 2011 he was talking about both GW2 and Blade & Soul at the same time. We don't really know which he was referring to in each case. It's conceivable that both beta and release will happen in 2010 for one of the games and 2011 for the other, or some other variation of that idea. (Satanael | talk) 02:18, 12 November 2009 (UTC)

Works for me; it would be more efficient to have that article listed instead.-- Shew 02:22, 12 November 2009 (UTC)
Or we could include "around 20:00" in the link. Either way, it's worth being mentioned since it's coming from NCsoft.-- Shew 02:26, 12 November 2009 (UTC)
How about an alternate source supporting it in text: [1] Seryu 00:16, 13 November 2009 (UTC)

Guild Wars 2 on 360/PS3

According to MMOSite, Blade & Soul and Guild Wars 2 will be having console versions released at the same time as the game.

Hopefully that was just a slip of the tongue.-- Shew 22:50, 10 February 2010 (UTC)
I'd've expected more uproar on the forums and a wider mention in the MMO sites if that were actually a valid conclusion from the information available. Although I'm now going to have to listen to the conference call - how dull. -- Aspectacle User Aspectacle.png 02:17, 11 February 2010 (UTC)
Regina responds at gw2guru.
"I just want to reiterate that the development team is fully focused on making GW2 the best PC MMO ever released. We have a very small team exploring the possibility of console, but there are no definite plans for a console version at this time. The core of Guild Wars 2 development is fully focused on delivering a fantastic PC MMORPG experience."
There you have it. Hmm... -- Aspectacle User Aspectacle.png 08:25, 11 February 2010 (UTC)
Good. Last thing I want is console scrubs infesting my Guild Wars. Guild Wars is a PC Game, It wouldn't feel right on a console, and would probably be imbalanced control wise compared to the PC. (Think the usual PC vs. Xbox arguments about controls giving certain advantages in games that are on both, i.e. Shadowrun.) 97.120.218.101 02:47, 12 February 2010 (UTC)

GDC10: ArenaNet's Daniel Dociu discusses the art of Guild Wars 2

Lol no don't say that-- Kanye did it with a slightly spiteful and "in your face" attitude; we don't want GW2 to have that sort of reputation lol. 173.190.17.186 12:40, 28 April 2010 (UTC)

Personally, theyve improved on several ideas fairly recently brought into MMOs (see: WAR 'public quests'), which is brilliant, but I wonder how repetitive events will become after a while. Hopefully not at all. Still can't wait, I need to get to work on my HoM. Also, I'm slightly worried by the stress they place on the skills of the various races, this suggests we could have serious class issues whereby one race or another is preferred over others for a specific classes, e.g. "GLF Norn warrior" last thing we want is those players who started a human warrior to be disadvantaged and excluded due to his very first decision. Still, as I say, its all speculation, we'll wait and see -- Tyrion

It seems they'll be revealing more, as stated on the official page. Today they covered "Skills", and beneath that it says "Tomorrow: Weapons, Professions and Races". I wonder what they will discuss :3 173.190.17.186 19:05, 28 April 2010 (UTC)

They've already kind of confirmed that they'll be releasing the professions gradually, over the course of a few months even. I think the Professions talk that's going to take place tomorrow is indeed the bit about secondaries getting thrown in the bin. As the part at OnlineWelten has. I mean,... Archive

Due to us getting alot of news lately, this page is getting very long and very bulky. I suggest perhaps archiving pre 2010 stuff (2009, 2008, 2007). So it just looks more appealing. --User:Nautaut (t) 17:55, 29 April 2010 (UTC)

If you're archiving I suggest one archive for the news stories and one for the article list at the bottom. Archiving the pre-2010 stuff seems like a reasonable cut off. -- Aspectacle User Aspectacle.png 18:05, 29 April 2010 (UTC)

Cheers for that, the main interesting thing I'm seeing in that is the scrapping of the side-kick system, that is very interesting. The other slightly worrying thing for me is the dyanamic storyline system, how will that work for groups of people who all have a different storyline going? Tyrion 13:15, 2 May 2010 (UTC)
I don't know where i read it, but the party leader's story will pogress, the others will be there as spectators 62.77.234.127 13:30, 2 May 2010 (UTC)

Here it is: "Players can choose to play through story content as a group but when they do so they choose to play through a particular characters story. In this case the other party members are witnesses to the main characters story and although they will be rewarded for helping that character, they are not affected by any long term decisions made." 62.77.234.127 15:27, 2 May 2010 (UTC)
he said he they were kicking the companion system, not the sidekick system.Akbaroth 12:40, 3 May 2010 (UTC)
Ah apologies, mixing my words there, i should know better, still, to me that is tragic, that could potentially destroy group play when you can only progress your storyline when YOU are party leader, I'll still help others out but all my main training (of my characters storyline, since I can still gain XP while helping/playing others storylines), if this is true, will be solo, which is tragic. Other sources

I don't know about you people, but I'm not interested in adding everything to that section; as in, when it's some piece of news such as an interview or a new announcement, I think it should be added, but when it's just a recap of something Arena Net has just announced, I don't think it's worth listing it here. It's the difference between this article (which is just someone's reaction to the official announcement about rangers, quoting things found at the official site) and this article (which is actually an interview, with some new information). Erasculio 23:21, 15 July 2010 (UTC)

Yeah, I think just the new info articles would be fine. Simple reactions to the official website reveals are not necessary, if people want to look for those, they can go to the link roundups on the blog. I kind of envision this as a repository for finding all the officially revealed information, as opposed to a list of everyone that has ever mentioned GW2 on a website. (Satanael | talk) 16:43, 16 July 2010 (UTC)
