Timing and position[edit]

This event spawned for me at :05 past the hour, and another player mentioned that it had previously spawned exactly 30 minutes prior. The location was close to where indicated, but approximately level with the "The Sealed Cavern" area label on the north-south axis and level with the Dry Quarry point of interest on the east-west axis. (i.e. It was still in the Far Silverwastes area.) -- Dashface User Dashface.png 16:12, 29 June 2018 (UTC)

I logged in to my previous location at :35 past the hour, and the event was again in progress. It was further north this time, up on the ledge in the position currently indicated in the article. -- Dashface User Dashface.png 11:38, 30 June 2018 (UTC)
Further observation when keeping another player company who was attempting to do this: This event did not spawn for the 36 minutes we waited. Clear out the Mordrem threat (Far Silverwastes) was stalled in this area during this time, stuck at 3/4 Mordrem with no foes able to be found. It's possible that because these event areas overlap, the Mordrem event can prevent the alpha beetle event from occurring. -- Dashface User Dashface.png 16:11, 30 June 2018 (UTC)
For what it's worth, I was waiting for about 20-25 minutes for the spawn. While I was waiting, the nearby Mordrem event spawned. Because I was bored, I (and some other players) cleared the Mordrem successfully. The Champ beetle spawned immediately afterwards. Coincidence, correlation, or causation? Unsure, but that's what happened.
I joined the map at xx:33 and it didn't spawn until xx:55 so spawn time is over 20 mins. In that time the Mordrem event spawned but completing it didn't affect the beetle. ~Deadly-Bagel 86.191.138.255 12:24, 8 July 2018 (UTC)
The Alpha Beetle spawned immediately (but not at :05, :35 or anything similar) once I had finished the "Mordrem Threat", at the location originally given. --Gyuro (talk) 11:40, 27 July 2018 (UTC)

Feedback 2018/07/06[edit]

may want to mention that new champion spawns just slightly to the east of the vista in far silverwastes. And is also still called Champion Giant Spotted Beetle not alpha beetle.

Method of spawning[edit]

Info I've collected through trials:

  • There is no set spawn point. I've had it spawn up on the cliff and down by the hero point.
  • It can spawn immediately after killing a yellow-text beetle.
  • I've had it take between 5 minutes and 30 minutes of straight killing of beetles to get it to spawn.
  • I've passively waited for 20 minutes with no spawn. Longer test times should be done (mine were always interrupted by other players).
  • I was not able to have it spawn at the same time as Clear out the Mordrem threat (Far Silverwastes). Too few samples done.

I'm going to re-add the note about it being related to the surrounding beetles with a further verification request. G R E E N E R 21:32, 16 August 2018 (UTC)

I was beating up beetles when the event spawned for me, but I can't say whether it was related or not. It didn't spawn on my location or anything. - Felix Omni 17:26, 29 August 2018 (UTC)
Event started for me at XX:14 after killing some yellow beetles Xmasreturns (talk) 00:19, 9 September 2018 (UTC)

In my case it spawned at the wiki destination and around XX:26 or so. As soon as I started beating hard yellow beetles, it appeared. - Catanic

For me it spawned immediately after killing the neutral (yellow-text) giant beetle in the most northwestern corner of this area. This was the second beetle I killed. But before that I've waited passively without doing anything for quite a long time (approx 20 mins).--Lou Tenera (talk) 07:09, 16 September 2018 (UTC)

This may be speculation but Alpha spawned for me only after killing the giant beetle on the west cliff face surrounded by tiny passive beetles. Perhaps this is a condition for spawn? I mean he is the Alpha and she is like the mother. CraniumAmbiguity (talk) 21 September 2018

Can confirm. Killing the yellow Giant Beetle (the one surrounded by the tiny green ones) a second time got the event to spawn immediately. --72.86.44.110 21:31, 7 October 2018 (UTC)

For me killing the northwestern beetle twice did nothing. Both other events were inactive. After a while it spawned for someone else. (I almost didn't notice it, as I was waiting in the middle of Far Silverwastes, and it spawned in the northwestern corner (where the "mother" beetle was), but the map marker didn't show up where I was despite its location being visible on my minimap. -- kazerniel (talk | contribs) 21:59, 11 December 2020 (UTC)

Method of spawning[edit]

We waited for ages, killed everything, completed the beetle herding successfully, did Mordrem Thread event and it spawned fairly soon afterwards. 80.42.231.110 23:28, 20 November 2018 (UTC)

More spawning anecdata :-)[edit]

I had the champion twice now - I think there is a fixed number of spotted beetles, and when it spawns within the small (green text) beetles, it's death will call the champion. After the first champion I killed all the spotted beetles I found - I *think* one spawned with the green text beetles and then the champion came (wasn't there when that happened).--Rejutka 18:03, 1 December 2018 (UTC)

More spawn talk[edit]

After killing many many beetles without the alpha spawning (including the one with the little green beetles), here's what finally spawned him for me: completed the nearby hylek's event (Drive beetles out of the hylek camp), then killed the giant beetle surrounded by the green beetles. Immediately after the kill, alpha spawned. AnomalyTea (talk) 22:17, 1 December 2018 (UTC)

I just did the Hylek event and the Alpha did not spawn. --Choco-muffin (talk) 19:01, 10 December 2018 (UTC)
For me the champion spawned 2 times, after killing a yellow-text Giant Beetle after completing the Clear out the Mordrem threat (Far Silverwastes). It was not the giant bettle surrounded by the green beetles, eliminating it as the trigger.
Edit: since last posting it spawned 3 more times, always after completing the aforementioned event, so it seems likely they either block each other from spawning or Clear out the Mordrem threat is now a pre event (which doesn't seems to make sense). I also observed that it doesn't matter which beetle gets killed, the event will spawn at the position of the last killed beetle. Maybe the event spawn is trigged by killing a random bettle after it is off cooldown? Almdudler (talk) 00:02, 11 December 2018 (UTC)
It might be similar to the Bloodstone crazed creatures, where you need to a kill random mob to spawn it. If there's a cooldown, it may be at least 20 minutes, from my two data points. Also, when I spawned it, the Hylek event was in the "ready to start" phase, so it doesn't seem to be gate/pre-event. --Choco-muffin (talk) 01:24, 11 December 2018 (UTC)

More tests[edit]

So I just ran six tests with the beetle. On the first, I simply waited it out. After 32 minutes of just waiting with no farming or event completion, somebody killed the beetle surrounded by the little green beetles (I'll call it the green beetle), and that caused it to spawn. The second time I farmed every beetle I could in the Far Silverwastes. I ended up killing about 50, and the Champion Beetle spawned at 16 minutes once I killed the green beetle. The third test I only farmed the green beetle. The Mordrem event popped up during this farm. I killed the green beetle when there were 3/4 Mordrem left, and the last one died shortly after. A few moments later, the Champion Beetle spawned where the green beetle had died. For the fourth test, a group of four joined in. They completed the event at the south, I'm unsure if they killed random beetles, but we did farm the green beetle. This time, the champion spawned at 11 minutes. For the fifth test, the Mordrem event happened once more, but this time there was nobody completing it. I farmed the green beetle once more, and I reached 30 minutes, at which point someone completed the event, and the champion spawned on the next green beetle kill. For the last test I tried to get the beetle to spawn elsewhere. I never touched the green beetle, instead farming other random beetles. At about 19 minutes, somebody killed the green beetle for the first time, and nothing happened. The Hylek event was completed, and then somebody killed the green beetle again, causing the Champion to spawn there at the 25 minute mark.

From all of that, here's what appears to happen:

  • If the Mordrem event is up, the Champion Beetle will not spawn.
  • The green beetle must be killed more than once? I cannot remember if somebody killed the green beetle early in the first test. This one requires more testing.
  • The Hylek event has no importance on the spawn of the Champion Beetle, as it was ready to start for multiple tests. The only untested part is whether the Champion will spawn during the event.
  • At least 10 minutes must pass since the last kill. 15 minutes seems to be the better average, but it is possible to get it spawn before that (see: fourth test) The preceding unsigned comment was added by Torin13 (talk).

More spawn condition and position notes[edit]

I just did this yesterday while unlocking the beetle mount. Here are some notes I can confirm:

  • I had to kill the ambient (yellow-labeled) Giant Beetle at location [4850, 14300] (by the group of NPC green-labeled "Beetles") in order to trigger the Alpha Beetle event to start.
  • Someone missed the champ kill, so I waited with them for the next spawn.
  • We continued to kill the same ambient Giant Beetle whenever it respawned (approximately every 2 minutes).
  • The Alpha Beetle event re-triggered after 30 minutes passed from the last Alpha Beetle was killed, and after we killed the ambient Giant Beetle again.

All of this information is mentioned in this talk page in one place or another already... Looking at the article history, I wish there was a clear way to articulate these conditions in the main wiki page that everybody seemed to agree on. --Beporter (talk) 15:45, 7 March 2019 (UTC)

Feedback 2021/12/17[edit]

This event isn't spawned by killing the beetle, or that is not the only criteria. This event is available after completing: https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Drive_beetles_out_of_the_hylek_camp%7C This is apparently common knowledge as a mentor helped me do it. please confirm and add to page

It has been confirmed multiple times above that the hylek event has no relation to this event. ~Sime 00:02, 19 December 2021 (UTC)

Feedback 2022/10/11[edit]

Can confirm without any doubt; to get the "Champion Giant Spotted Beetle" or "Alpha Beetle" to spawn, players must first complete the "Drive beetles out of the hylek camp" event (easier with help but solo-able given you must only drive ~3 beetles away). (https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Drive_beetles_out_of_the_hylek_camp)

Once complete, players then must navigate to and kill the Giant beetle in the North-western corner of the Far silverwastes, upon an easy access elevation, which is 'guarding' many small peaceful beetles. The alpha will then spawn, there on the elevation after the small peaceful beetle have scattered.

Only after completing these two tasks will the Alpha beetle spawn.

Please can this be published in the official sections? Thanks.

It may be that if the "Drive beetles out of the hylek camp" event is up it must be completed to have the beetle spawn, just as if the 4 linked mordrem events are up they have to be completed before the beetle can spawn, but it has never been up and I have never had to do it before spawning the alpha beetle after more than 40 spawnings. In almost every case for me, if the mordrem event is not up if the big beetle in the far Northwest that is surrounded by small beetles is killed 1 or 2 times, the Alpha beetle will spawn in that spot, or in the next canyon to the East.
