Trivia[edit]

I've removed the trivia for now until it can be verified as true, because currently it's too speculative(plus that link definitely shouldn't be here). While ArenaNet has made an NPC based off of a player's character before before, we've had a very similar situation before here on the wiki where a player thought an NPC was based off one of their characters, and in the end we had Stephane confirm it was nothing more than a coincidence. It can be re-added, sans the link, if it can be verified by ArenaNet as true. - Doodleplex 19:00, 29 April 2018 (UTC)

moved discussion[edit]

moved from User talk:Konig Des Todes#Ketill reference

Hey Konig! regarding to what i added on the page of the NPC Ketill, Here is the actual reference. A screenshot of him in GW2 China and the page of his online store. https://imgur.com/a/sjQNjKL/#/

I know you can't read chinese, and apparently Anet doesn't too otherwise they wouldn't do stupid thing like this , but you can at least recognize characters. so i made this picture for you. This Player and the Npc Ketill share the same name (金昆) in-game. There is no doubt when they made this NPC, It was based on this Player. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by Thordr Borson (talk).

I think it'd be best to get confirmation from Anet on this, to be honest, as if that is a reference that's practically the same as supporting buying game stuff with rl money outside of the gemstore which Anet bans for. Seems very out of character for them to do. Konig (talk) 18:47, 29 April 2018 (UTC)
Agreed. Is it possible that the player made his character after the expansion has been released? —Ventriloquist 19:35, 29 April 2018 (UTC)
Either way, we certainly can't link to an RMT shop from the wiki. That would violate the EULA liek whoa. - Felix Omni 21:24, 29 April 2018 (UTC)
if you can read chinese you would know that player had that character created and named that way far before the release of the expansion. Then why Anet would do this? I think that's very simple, things worked differently in Gw2 China, RMT is an ok thing over there, even this player is openly running an online store, you can still find his details on the official website where they promote their Top Streamers, they are selling in-game items ( legendary weapons/armors, infusion etc ) officially for RLM anyways, So it's very obvious to me, ANET wanted to add a NPC as a reference of their playerbase in China, they asked their China Partner who gave Anet the infomation of this player, and Anet used it without further research. First, please sign your comments by adding ~~~~ at the end of your comment. Second, since it's still speculation on your part, plus I'm gonna guess the majority of us commenting can't read Chinese, you really need to talk to Stephane Lo Presti who works for ArenaNet to confirm what you're saying is true. - Doodleplex 00:58, 30 April 2018 (UTC)
Let me clarify: regardless of whether this NPC is named after a Chinese RMT shop runner (which I'm not personally doubting, it seems plausible enough), we won't be linking to his shop on the English wiki. That violates our rules, no matter how things work in China. Is there some other way we can identify the player? - Felix Omni 02:52, 30 April 2018 (UTC)
I actually checked with Anet, Their reply is Yes, This NPC is a reference to the person i mentioned. But ofc and i quote " our team was unable to find evidence that he had done anything that goes against the game's Terms of Service. " lol 113.255.141.148 01:08, 2 June 2018 (UTC)
It's cool that you've managed to get confirmation from ANet, but you're going to have to provide proof that they actually said it. I'm not accusing you of lying, but I'm sure you understand that we don't have any way to verify your claim right now! --Idris (talk) 01:11, 2 June 2018 (UTC)
Here is the screenshot of Anet's reply. anyhow, to me the evidence is pretty clear, but i know i won't get any outcome from them. so i give up.https://imgur.com/a/s54iIia 113.255.141.148 01:16, 2 June 2018 (UTC)
Thank you! That's good enough for me. Go ahead and add the trivia if you'd like. Include a link to the evidence and, if you wish, a link to his stream channel, but please remember that we will remove any links to his shop. (Even if he's not violating any rules, it wouldn't be appropriate for us to give him free advertising.) --Idris (talk) 01:38, 2 June 2018 (UTC)
