Updated DT Coin & SW Badge Locations --162.205.5.130 17:10, 12 March 2016 (UTC)

The numbers in the guide and the ones in the achievement do not correspond. ~Making it very hard to find that one badge you missed. DBZVelena | (Talk page) User DBZVelena sig.jpg 18:54, 17 June 2016 (UTC)
If you mean the Dulfy guide, then yes it's not correct. If you mean it isn't correct on the map here, please let me know which one so I can update it. - Doodleplex 19:00, 17 June 2016 (UTC)
I mean the dulfy one, i think adding a note that the chat of the dulfy guide does have a diagram of which number is which in the game. Got the achievement btw. And i'd like to add that Gliding is possible in that JP zone, making getting some of the hard ones very easy if you have gliding unlocked. DBZVelena | (Talk page) User DBZVelena sig.jpg 23:54, 17 June 2016 (UTC)
Dulfy is not associated with the wiki though, so as much as it is unfortunate that it is not accurate, there is nothing that we wiki editors can do about it. A note on her website would be much more efficient than a note here ;) -Darqam (talk) 00:19, 18 June 2016 (UTC)
Ah, but you're linking to the guide, least you can do is add a disclaimer that the numbers don't match. Though, doing it dulfy's way lets you do the JP too wile getting the badges. DBZVelena | (Talk page) User DBZVelena sig.jpg 02:54, 18 June 2016 (UTC)
Fixed. - Doodleplex 05:07, 18 June 2016 (UTC)

http://en-forum.guildwars2.com/discussion/39836/lost-badge-5 yet another forum post of someone confused and not finding the relevant info on the wiki. The preceding unsigned comment was added by 162.205.5.130 (talk).

I assume the plea to wiki editors at the bottom of that thread is yours? Personally, I think the conversion table is inappropriate for display on the article itself, but I see no harm in adding a note explaining the problem with dulfy and linking to the conversion table, and I encourage you to be bold and go ahead and make the changes you feel are necessary. The worst thing that can happen is that they'll get reverted, but at least that will get people's attention on this stagnating issue. --Idris (talk) 16:22, 12 May 2018 (UTC)
To be fair though, the confused player in that forum post gave no indications that they were looking to the wiki for help; it seems like they were relying purely on Dulfy. I'm not sure what we can really do to help folks who aren't reading the wiki in the first place; the onus is on Dulfy to correct her crap numbering. --Idris (talk) 16:27, 12 May 2018 (UTC)

Dulfy Numbering versus Anet Numbering[edit]

Since it's been made twice, I'm moving it here, as it being on the main page isn't really the place for it. - Doodleplex 23:59, 17 July 2016 (UTC)

External links[edit]

Would anybody object to removing the external link to dulfy's guide? We have our own guide now, which I imagine is why the link was put there initially, and as dulfy's is now outdated and as a result confusing, it might be better to not link it at all. - Doodleplex 20:48, 24 July 2017 (UTC)

I think that's the wrong direction to go in considering the feedback we've received. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 20:54, 24 July 2017 (UTC)
I understand the feedback, the trick is this is the wrong page for those notes. They should be on the Go For the Gold achievement page, not here, if people are comparing the two guides. Not to mention, I'd rather move the above section to the guide's talk page so people don't have to go back and forth between pages. - Doodleplex 21:17, 24 July 2017 (UTC)
I'd personally prefer expanding the external link section on the pages to include a thumbnail of the image. E.g.:

  • [http://dulfy.net/2014/11/04/gw2-lost-badge-silverwastes-achievement-guide/ dulfy.net - Lost Badge Silverwastes Achievement Guide] table
  • Please note, the numbering on Dulfy.net is out of date. Please use the table on the right to match the numbering in the achievement panel and on Dulfy's guide.
Though I'm sure someone can help with the formatting/wording. We can put this text, and the other image, File:Lost Coin old numbering translation table.jpg, on all appropriate pages; no need for multiple link clicking for the readers. G R E E N E R 00:55, 25 July 2017 (UTC)
Don't you think the fact that we have an actual table to translate an external site's walkthrough a bit unnecessary? Our current guide is definitely lacking, yes, but I don't see why we should keep dulfy's link if/when an actual guide is created on the wiki. —Ventriloquist 15:14, 25 July 2017 (UTC)
The thing is most of these badge guides will end up as "the badge is to the left of the sand, after passing around the sand" unless they're a video. :/ -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 17:13, 25 July 2017 (UTC)
Not true, most of the Golden Lost Badges are part of the jumping puzzle and usually found nestled in various rock faces, so pictures probably will suffice pretty nicely, and honestly I'm kicking myself for not adding them sooner. And if a video is needed, we can just use the Youtube template, as there are many videos on youtube that have the same walkthroughs, and some include gliding. - Doodleplex 17:22, 25 July 2017 (UTC)
A lot can be done with arrows, maps, and a couple of lines of text. —Ventriloquist 10:08, 26 July 2017 (UTC)
So the guide stuff should definitely be moved to Go for the Gold and should not be on this talk page as this is related to the achievement, not the actual object.--Relyk ~ talk < 18:37, 26 July 2017 (UTC)
(Super late in circling back here.) I just want to make sure that we're providing useful information to our readers while respecting their expectations. For example, when I google "GW2 Lost Coins", I get the wiki page, then three Dulfy guide pages, followed by three Dulfy youtube videos (algorithm output for you may differ). If we can ease the disconnect between what people are seeing in the most common set of guides and what we're presenting, and all it takes is a table on the wiki page they go to, why don't we? G R E E N E R 18:56, 30 July 2017 (UTC)
Better question, why haven't we or other people asked dulfy to simply update her guides or just stick the table that's already running around at the top of her guides if she hasn't the time to update them. Seems likely the easiest answer, because in reality if dulfy's pages are fixed there's no reason for us to do so. Additionally I think the only reason why people fuss over this particular guide is because there's a tyria masery point tied to it, the rest don't which is probably why nobody cares about the others or asked for a conversion table. Also not sure if it matters, but when I googled the same thing as you Greener, dulfy's video guide/guides were on the bottom of the page so her guides may be less popular now since they're outdated. - Doodleplex 19:27, 30 July 2017 (UTC)
There are comments on her articles for years that haven't resulted in changes. People still have trouble with this and the other dt/sw scavenger hunts, because the people who use Dulfy a lot will see her version come up more often than the wiki. It's one line of notes and a simple table. It would reduce confusion permanently and doesn't depend on a non-contributor to update their privately maintained guide. Apparently people have been asking for this for 2 years on the wiki. So the better question is why is it objectionable that the wiki make it easy for people to convert Dulfy's numbering system to ANet's? 162.205.5.130 23:31, 9 August 2017 (UTC)
I, too, would like to hear what drawbacks there are to adding a note to the relevant pages; so far I've heard none. We don't have a thorough guide, the community has a need which we can succinctly fulfill, and I really want to know what cost would there be to the wiki to provide the help.
If we're saying no, then let's be clear about what the negatives are, and show that they out-weigh the positives. We owe the community better reasons than, "We'll make a better guide later," and "It's not our responsibility." It's not our responsibility to do a ton of things on this wiki, yet we do them day-in and day-out to make the community's lives better. G R E E N E R 00:46, 14 August 2017 (UTC)
