Would a trivia note mentioning the possible origin of these items in the use of the /rank emote over a downed enemy from GW1 be of interest to anyone? I think it's interesting, specifically because I recall folks complaining about it being unsportsmanlike, essentially the Guild Wars equivalent of teabagging, when it first started happening, and the Charr enemies in EotN would use it after downing a player, but I always balk at adding trivia to wiki pages... --Aspirant Fool (talk) 01:33, 2 March 2014 (UTC)

I think that some comment should be made for inexperienced|new players as to whether this action applies to PvE in any way, or is strictly PvP/WvW only, and has no effect on PvE play.SigShaneTalk 11:34, 18 July 2014 (UTC)

Consider also that when you /gg in instances where that's allowed, often (if not always?) your own finishers will play on your body. ZeroPraxis (talk) 13:55, 27 September 2022 (UTC)

Good question, that, about PvE...[edit]

Because I've seen them pop up in PvE, when fighting ordinary monsters, not other players. It doesn't happen often, but it does happen. Cynique (talk) 22:16, 5 June 2016 (UTC)

I think for completeness' sake it would be useful to have a list of all the PVE enemies in the game that allow you to use finishers. So far I've seen Champion Tarnished Sage and mobs at Toxic Offshoot. Bearber (talk) 22:34, 26 July 2016 (UTC)
There are actually quite a few enemy npcs that can killed via finisher, so it might be better to just notate here that select foes can finished, and notate on those npcs page that a finisher can be used on them. - Doodleplex 22:44, 26 July 2016 (UTC)
And add a category for finishable foes so they can be found easily... Cynique (talk) 12:24, 28 September 2016 (UTC)
Minor research: Sylvari members of the Toxic Alliance, that is, Toxic Assassin, Toxic Knight, Toxic Sorcerer, and perhaps others can be Finished. Krait members cannot be Finished. Cynique (talk) 10:48, 7 January 2017 (UTC)

Benefit?[edit]

This may be a stupid question, but what is the benefit of the finisher? Is it merely to make sure they're gone and can't get back up?--Cyberman 12:22, 1 February 2018 (UTC)

Yes, it guarantees that the enemy is dead (that they cannot rally). Plus, it looks cool! —Ventriloquist 15:50, 1 February 2018 (UTC)

And otherwise?[edit]

I've noticed that the rules for some so-called "rank farm" servers - which I often use as a way to do my daily quickly when I'm short on time and the PvE choices are more time-intensive - expressly say "No Finishers". Out of sheer curiosity, can someone tell me why, please? I assume that it deprives other players of points in some way, but I can't pretend I actually understand the scoring (and therefore the logic). And I dislike not understanding the game I'm playing - even if I'm not currently sPvP-ing for real regularly. The preceding unsigned comment was added by Doghouse13 (talk).

When someone is downed, other players can attack that person and still get kill credit, something that doesn't happen when a person dies (via a finisher). Sometimes the daily is PvP Daily Kills, and when you finish someone (on your own, for example), you deny other players the chance to attack that person and therefore receive credit. As for scoring, each kill in PvP awards 5 points to the team score. —Ventriloquist 10:16, 8 July 2018 (UTC)
