So {{contained in}} should just display no icon? Mora 21:06, 6 May 2015 (UTC)

Should this page really be using {{contains}} anymore? —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 21:33, 6 May 2015 (UTC)
It's helpful to note the historical source of items and makes it easy when items are moved in and out of the chest, such as the Mini Super Banana or Metallurgic Dye Kit, instead of the information not being present on the item's page. Mora 21:44, 6 May 2015 (UTC)
I hard-coded some semantic properties onto the page. Check out the other pages and let me know if this will work. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 21:47, 6 May 2015 (UTC)
That works. But I'm curious what the issue was with just having the infobox create the properties instead? Does Black Lion Weapons Specialist/historical need to be updated? Mora 22:06, 6 May 2015 (UTC)
We would stick the status/historical property in the vendor subobject. I know I did that for the gem store subobject. Since this template doesn't create a subobject, the solution is to add the property to the page itself.--Relyk ~ talk < 23:43, 6 May 2015 (UTC)
The results is currently really odd. For example I read this page : Karma Booster ... and saw the BL Chest in the list, where it shouldn't appear anymore. If it wasn't for this discussion, I would have removed all occurrences of "contains|" in the page code ... Eowin (talk) 17:55, 12 August 2015 (UTC)
It's clearly marked as "(historical)". —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 18:13, 12 August 2015 (UTC)

How to Split[edit]

So it would appear Anet is making brand new chests instead of recycling old ones(which is what I was hoping for to make updating easier). As a result, this page is likely to get hideously long, so I'm wondering how to split it up. The only thing I can think of is "/historical 1", "/historical 2", "/historical 3", per year. Anybody got any other ideas? The only thing I know for sure is I would like to separate the original historical content before they got reworked to be seasonal on a different page. - Doodleplex 21:42, 18 October 2017 (UTC)

With the last edit (May 26, 2020), this page produces now the template include size is exceeded error, due to 1777 {{contains}}. I.e. tthe last few template calls aren't parsed anymore, see Black_Lion_Chest/historical#Halloween_2016 (inside the collapsed section, use Show)
Hence, a page split is now required. --Tolkyria (talk) 21:15, 27 May 2020 (UTC)
This page is starting to get pretty long (30 entries) and is markedly slow when loading and saving. The current version that I'm looking at contains chests from 2020 to 2022. Maybe we should move the 2020-2021 to a "/historical 4"? Shantavi (talk) 08:35, 25 May 2022 (UTC)
Splitted. Some duplicates still needs to be cleaned up, see section #Duplicates below. --Tolkyria (talk) 11:20, 25 May 2022 (UTC)

Dates[edit]

Added in dates that the chests were on for. The start dates are accurate (based on patchnotes) whereas the end dates are estimates based on when the next chest came out. Was doing research for my own project and was slightly dismayed that they weren't recorded, I will keep an eye out in the future. Silveress (talk) 00:47, 18 August 2018 (UTC)

Misleading Item Listings in Most Chests[edit]

The way this article is laid out makes it seem like it's showing the contents of each chest for that period. I think it's actually showing what was removed from a chest when it was added. I've changed the opening paragraph to be a bit more obvious... However, it seems like it would be better to detail the actual contents of each chest instead. I couldn't find any discussion regarding this. 117.20.71.211 13:02, 17 June 2021 (UTC)

A lot of the history for these items can be found visually in File:Black Lion Chest preview.jpg - I'm thinking we should routinely upload the historical version's preview screen so we can double check later (alongside the chest ui appearance - which I personally think is somewhat useless but w/e). -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 20:57, 17 June 2021 (UTC)
Shit. Just checked and that image was waaay out of date, not updated since 2019.
Point still stands that if we upload the preview image we can check our data later. -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 21:22, 17 June 2021 (UTC)
As the person who is mainly taking care of the BL chest pages, you are correct that it has been listing only the removed items from each chest. It had been like that even before I took over and it always made sense for me to continue it. However, I am not opposed to the idea of listing every item that was included in each chest IF we can prevent the inevitable bloat of the Vendor list of every item, as every.single.chest.occurence would be listed there. ~Sime 23:19, 17 June 2021 (UTC)
Ah I didn't remember that this page was setting vendor properties to query against, makes more sense when you put it like that to avoid repeats... -Chieftain AlexUser Chieftain Alex sig.png 23:23, 17 June 2021 (UTC)

Duplicates[edit]

There are some duplicate contains in /historical and /historical 2 or /historical 3 and thus the canonical name Black Lion Chest is showing up twice in the template contained in. One can use the following query to find those and set them to item icon on the older historical pages:

{{#ask: [[-Contains item::Black Lion Chest/historical]][[-Contains item::~Black Lion Chest/historical *]]|?-Contains item|limit=500}}

--Tolkyria (talk) 11:59, 6 October 2021 (UTC)

Removed duplicates. —Kvothe (talk) 14:51, 1 November 2021 (UTC)
