Logging In[edit]

Even though the beta client is now available, we won't be able to log in until Friday, right? I have yet to receive any emails about the update, so I have to imagine it isn't actually ready yet. - TaxBrony 00:05, 25 April 2012 (UTC)

Correct if you try to log in now it says "Your account is all prepared, but there is no Beta event running right now. Please come back and join us at the start of the next Beta event. For more information, visit the Guild Wars 2 website." Then gives an error code for that. Will be able to log in Friday at noon PDT (GMT-7) but you can have the client downloaded and ready to play now so that when the beta does start and you just jump right in. It is a little more than 13gb download. User Mattsta Sig1.jpgUser Mattsta Sig2.jpg 18:12, 25 April 2012 (UTC)
After downloading all of the patch files, when I try to log in, I don't get that message. I get a "network error". Does this mean my account isn't ready? I received the emails stating that my account has been activated, though I didn't get an email about the beta. I just saw the post here. Should I be worried? - TaxBrony 18:19, 25 April 2012 (UTC)
Regarding my last post, I figured it out. I was incorrectly using my NC Soft Master Account to log in. While it didn't say my account was wrong, I got the correct message when I tried just using the email address I registered with. So I'm set now. Maybe this will help out some other players who might be confused. - TaxBrony 18:25, 25 April 2012 (UTC)
I guess I'm still a little confused though. When the full retail version is out, will I use my NC Soft Master Account, my display name, or my email to log in? - TaxBrony 18:39, 25 April 2012 (UTC)
I am pretty sure at release you will continue to log in the same way you are logging in now. User Mattsta Sig1.jpgUser Mattsta Sig2.jpg 22:46, 25 April 2012 (UTC)
Hmm, now that I think about it, GW1 was the same way. You logged in with your email, but your NC Soft account was different. - TaxBrony 23:26, 25 April 2012 (UTC)

Slow Download Speed[edit]

Is anyone else getting a slow download speed for the beta client of around 1/3rd of your actual bandwidth? Is there a command line switch to allow it use to all available bandwidth? Lady Elyssa 22:50, 25 April 2012 (UTC)

There's a post claiming that you connect to multiple servers, so the reported DL speed might be significantly slower than what you are actually getting. Try taking a look at the folder size after a few minutes (or otherwise look at what's consuming your bandwidth using various diagnostic tools). 75.36.183.14 00:04, 26 April 2012 (UTC)
I believe this is true since the amount I downloaded for the time given and the speed reported seems way off. Previously Unsigned 00:07, 26 April 2012 (UTC)
Just checked: client is reporting 1/3 the DL speed that my Win7 resource monitor is showing. 75.36.183.14 00:09, 26 April 2012 (UTC)
I wish that was simply the case for me but only get 52KB/s download from the client and after the best part of 11 hours ended up with around 5GB of data. Am chasing up a slower connection speed with my ISP as it is after recent connection issues but clearly there is something awry or ArenaNet has decided to limit the speed either out of respect for our bandwidth or perhaps to ease the strain on their own servers. Lady Elyssa 00:22, 26 April 2012 (UTC)
idk, it was showing me slower (about 650 KB/s), and seemed to have been downloading about that rate. Then again, we recently updated from nearly dialup DSL (70 kbs, anybody xD?) to "high" high speed, and I can pull like 1 GB every 2-3 mins (actually a little less), but it took me a while to get the first 10 GB (40 mins? 50? 60?), though I don't think that speed is 650 KB/s ~~ User Kiomadoushi sig.png Kiomadoushi 00:29, 26 April 2012 (UTC)
^ I don't think you know the meaning of dialup. Anyways, Elyssa, my download was also going at 60kb/s in the client, capped just like yours. The whole thing finished in like 20 hours though. I believe that is roughly 180 kb/s that I predicted for. There's gotta be some things going on that's just not being shown. Previously Unsigned 01:14, 26 April 2012 (UTC)
Well I guess we will have to put it down to being a "beta" for the moment. Now have 10GB done so another night tonight to finish the download/update process. 87.115.122.96 08:36, 26 April 2012 (UTC)
Create a shortcut to the .exe file (and optionally rename it to Gw2 Patcher), go to its properties and add a space and "-image" after the quote in the target line (so it will look like this at the end of the target line: " -image ) will give you a patching-only shortcut that has been reported to achieve higher download speeds. This hasn't been properly verified, but it may be worth checking out. If using this method, please note that this shortcut will always download all the data from scratch every time it is used, so launching Guild Wars 2 with the original exe afterwards is recommended (alternatively, you can remove the added <space>-image part again). - Infinite - talk 08:43, 26 April 2012 (UTC)
Unsigned, I know dialup. Our DSL we had before had a connection of 70 kb/s... our downloads ran at 10-40 kbs. I'd certainly call that near-dialup, when compared to every other DSL (and certainly high-speed cable) ~~ User Kiomadoushi sig.png Kiomadoushi 11:35, 27 April 2012 (UTC)

Language[edit]

Does anyone know if it'll be possible to change the language when playing the game ? It automatocally downloaded in mine, and the "options" of the log-in screen don't include language... 213.166.194.139 20:17, 26 April 2012 (UTC)

Resume Downloading[edit]

Does anyone know if you can resume downloading from the point where you reached if you were to stop the download and then re-start it later?

Eeeyup, that's how it works. —Dr Ishmael User Dr ishmael Diablo the chicken.png 21:02, 29 May 2012 (UTC)

Download Link Safe?[edit]

I noticed the link is not locked as is usually the case with links that could be changed with dubious intent, and that got me worried. Plus, if I wasn't a total newbie i could tell if the link URL is genuine or not, but frankly i can't. Could a high-up let me know if the link is fine and/or lock it? Thanks--User Xhosant Signature.png 12:07, 18 September 2012 (UTC)

I'm not too bothered about this particular link because this is a beta page. You hardly want to get started for beta when the game's released already. And if someone has purchased the game and registered an account, the download link is right there on their account page. I suppose we could put a link somewhere... but it won't be here.
Admins can lock the page against registered and/or unregistered users. Unless it proves necessary, page lock is used infrequently since it goes against the purpose of a wiki. Considering the amount of external links to references, youtube videos, fan sites, it's not practical to protect every single page that features an external link. -- ab.er.rant User Ab.er.rant Sig.png 07:42, 19 September 2012 (UTC)
