Redirect or no[edit]

So there seems to already be some separate ideas over this page, so let's figure this out. Mysterious Stranger was a name given by the in-game menu, never were we introduced to him as such. Now in the new fractal he gives us his name. Would it not make more sense to have the details here since, Arkk is who this NPC really is, and have Mysterious Stranger redirect here? One can imagine that future fotm releases we will see him as Arkk as well. It just seems off to me to have the true name redirect to an assumed identity. -Darqam 03:00, 27 November 2016 (UTC)

I agree with Darqam. I am of the opinion that a NPC's page should always be named after either its most recent identity or its real one. In this case, Arkk's name was revealed in the Nightmare Fractal so I think it would make the most sense to have his page named like so. And it's not like it's a huge spoiler either. We're not spoiling the leader of a key organization like it was the case with Caudecus. || Louise || 03:09, 27 November 2016 (UTC)
I also agree, and believe the only reason he was called "Mysterious Asura" is because Anet was building the suspense of his story, and other pages should redirect here. Same thing will probably apply if we ever find out who "E", ie we would likely redirect the page "E" to whatever their real name is. (edit) Knew there was a case of where this happened already: Suspicious Figure is a redirect page that takes you to Scarlet Briar. - Doodleplex 03:10, 27 November 2016 (UTC)
We go by the most commonly used in-game name for an NPC. Suspicious Stranger redirects because she's called such in *one* instance out of nearly a dozen. So far, Arkk is called "Mysterious Asura" in two out of two instances, being also called Arkk in the second.
This is why we go by Phlunt instead of Councillor Phlunt (his name in S3 - in PS, S2, and open world it's just Phlunt). This is why we use Minister Caudecus instead of Legate Minister Caudecus Beetlestone the Wise. This is why we use Rytlock Brimstone instead of Tribune Rytlock Brimstone, or Logan Thackeray instead of Captain Logan Thackeray. Konig (talk) 05:02, 27 November 2016 (UTC)
Isn't he referred to as "Mysterious Voice" in the Chaos fractal? If not, the chat dialogue on that page needs to be fixed. - Doodleplex 05:27, 27 November 2016 (UTC)
I think there's a difference between including an NPC's official title and changing an NPC's name assumption to its real identity. || Louise || 05:29, 27 November 2016 (UTC)
@Doodle: The NPC is called Mysterious Asura, but in the chat box his lines are done by "Mysterious Voice".
@Louise: Those were just most direct examples of this same ruling in consistency. We always go by the NPC name we see most commonly. There's also Mysterious Stranger aka "Grand High Sovereign". Most cases of "Mysterious" or "Suspicious" whatever end up getting a name that becomes used more, but so far Arkk is not used as much as Mysterious Asura let alone more. Next fractal it'd probably will be, if it continues Arkk's arc, but until then - months from now at least - this is the proper article naming. I mean, this is how Anet refers to him as well so far. Konig (talk) 05:41, 27 November 2016 (UTC)
I haven't done the fractal yet, but is the 'Arkk' only name-droped or is the NPC *actually* called Arkk? —Ventriloquist 10:37, 27 November 2016 (UTC)

(Reset indent) Unrelated to the topic, but when you guys link "Mysterious Stranger" I have no idea if you mean that NPC from the personal story line, or just keep on linking to him by accident instead of "Mysterious Asura". =X - Doodleplex 05:47, 27 November 2016 (UTC)

@vent. If you look at dialogue from Nightmare Fractal: "Arkk: My name is Arkk. We should form a mutually beneficial alliance. The odds are against our survival otherwise." So basically before then we just saw a hologram of an asura and didn't know him, so he was labeled mysterious asura (per in-game UI). Now in this fotm he pretty much introduces himself. So to me, the page with info really should be Arkk, as "Mysterious Asura" is just a UI given name, or rather a placeholder until he introduced himself. -Darqam 17:08, 27 November 2016 (UTC)
He starts out as Mysterious Asura, but halfway through initial dialogue his hologram (still just a hologram) is renamed to Arkk. Mysterious Asura is the NPC name provided in both Chaos Isles Fractal and the beginning (but not whole of) Nightmare Fractal. We don't rightly know if Arkk will appear as Arkk in future fractals. Konig (talk) 21:50, 27 November 2016 (UTC)
Not sure if it matters, but the French wiki's page is Arkk for this NPC, same for the German one though they currently only have him as a red link. - Doodleplex 18:17, 29 November 2016 (UTC)
I haven't done it yet, but if the new fractal page is accurate, then he's been called Arkk for two fractals now, so I can't think of any other reason why this shouldn't be the main page for him now. - Doodleplex 17:16, 26 July 2017 (UTC)
