Shred Gnarltail is a senior Priory Scribe that can be found near Haunted Nolani, in the Black Citadel. He's been a member of the scribe since 1305 AE, when the Durmand Priory held a recruitment drive for their 200th anniversary, and as Gnarltail had always loved ancient stories, he joined.

Dialogue[edit]
- Are you here on Priory business? Because if your business is otherwise, then your business is elsewhere.
- (If in the Durmand Priory)
- I am a member of the Durmand Priory. What are you working on?
- My team and I are here to research the sudden disappearance of the gargoyles some 140 years ago. We've had a lot of curious types wander by, but we tell them our research is purely historical.
- But it's not?
- Oh, there is historical curiosity. We are, after all, scholars. But as you know, the Priory has a special interest in things like the sudden, large-scale disappearance of a species.
- There are some important questions to be answered.
- Exactly. The secret to anything powerful enough to be responsible for such a large-scale event is a secret we want to be the first to discover. Finders, keepers, after all.
- Then I'll let you get back to your work.
- Quenching the thirst for knowledge is what drives the Priory. Good-bye.
- What they don't know, can't hurt them. Good-bye.
- (If not in the Durmand Priory)
- Priory business?
- The Durmand Priory. I'm a senior scribe. And by the looks of you, I'd say you've never seen the inside of a library. Now what do you want?
- How long have you been with the Priory?
- Since 1305. The Durmand Priory held a recruitment drive on their 200th anniversary. I'd always loved ancient stories, so I joined up.
- What ancient stories are you working on now?
- Since our project is just getting underway, I'm hesitant to discuss anything. especially with a stranger.
- Hmm. Persuasive words. Fine, if you must know, I am researching the mysterious disappearance of the gargoyles. These hills used to be thick with them.
- Gargoyles? I've never seen one.
- Hence my use of the word "disappearance." No one alive has ever seen one. They just suddenly vanished around 140 years ago. My fellow scholars and I hope to solve the mystery of their fate.
- Good luck.
- Good luck.
I have every confidence in a scholar as learned as you.
- What is the use of research if you don't share your findings? (Same response as charisma)
- Okay. Good-bye.
- Interesting, but I have to be going.
- What's a senior scribe doing out here? Some sort of project?
- Naturally. We're just getting underway. We still have important decisions to make, and you are an unwelcome distraction.
- What sorts of decisions?
- The kind that don't concern you. Now, if you'll excuse me?
- Don't let me keep you
- I'm not that interested. Bye.
- I'll leave you to your work.
- I'm not here for that. Good-bye.
