Piece of Common Unidentified Gear is a container that, upon opening it, provides a random equipment item of CFine rarity, with a small chance for an item of higher rarity. Common Unidentified Gear is often provided as loot and rewards in all areas of the game for level 80 characters, and is also available in other rarities: Unidentified Gear (DMasterwork) and Rare Unidentified Gear (ERare). See Unidentified Gear for the overview for all three rarities.

Unidentified Gear can be salvaged both directly and after identifying it into individual equipment items, with the latter providing additional higher rarity crafting materials. As a lot of rewards in the game are provided in the form of items, Unidentified Gear is used to reduce inventory clutter while preserving the chance for higher quality loot.

Acquisition

• Common drop from foes, containers, chests and event rewards throughout the world.

The received equipment is attached to level 80 characters (item level doesn't scale with character level).

Trivia

• Originally, Unidentified Gear only dropped within the Path of Fire expansion and Living World Season 4 maps. As of the March 26, 2019 update, they now drop in most areas of the game.
  • This update also stopped magic find from affecting these items.
