Talk:Plan of Attack
Achievements[edit]
The 3 achievements that can be obtained on re-doing this never popped on my status bar whatsoever, either at the beginning or just before the boss battle. Neither was I awarded with them for successfully dodging an knockdown or knockback from the statue. 217.15.224.210 10:37, 31 July 2014 (UTC)
- Be sure you're actually replaying the episode by clicking the "Replay this episode" button in the Story Journal. That means you have to be on a character that has already completed the episode, not on a second character going through for their first time. —Dr Ishmael 12:08, 31 July 2014 (UTC)
- I know what I'm doing, don't need to talk to me like I can't read. It seems like if the owner of the instance is doing this for the first time, other members in the party won't see the achievement eligibility icons above their skill bar, regardless of whether they are "actively" replaying the scenario or not. Whether or not the achievements will be awarded to them is another topic I haven't bothered testing yet, and will only consider doing when ANet gets some consistency in. 217.15.224.210 13:58, 31 July 2014 (UTC)
- Hey, you didn't explain the situation completely, so don't blame me for making the wrong assumption. Anyway, my wife and I encountered this once last night in The Waypoint Conundrum - seems like it's random, but yes, other members of the party sometimes don't get the achievement effects. All we had to do was leave and re-enter the instance, and she had them the next time. And on all other instances we replayed last night. —Dr Ishmael 19:41, 1 August 2014 (UTC)
- And then you go and badmouth me on my talk page about my acting likea douche while I'm in the right about ANet and their bugs/glitches/poor design... 217.15.224.210 04:59, 6 August 2014 (UTC)
- Maybe you should reconsider the way you reply to people on the wiki, Ishmael. If you don't notice yourself, you were actually patronizing that guy. Instead of telling him what to do, ask if he has taken those things into account. And if you're so reluctant to try and help people, then don't bother, you're not forced to. 2.104.38.138 08:13, 20 August 2014 (UTC)
Different Dialogue Option[edit]
If you're human, there's a slightly different dialogue option when Rytlock asks you to hand over the crown. You tell him that the crown is very valuable to your people and you make him promise to give it back when he's done. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 70.162.194.110 (talk) at 19:35, 1 August 2014 (UTC).
Updated Dialogue?? @ 16 August 2014[edit]
I played it with my charr ranger and it seems like some of the dialogue have changed to accommodate the chronology. Rytlock didn't say anything about shiverpeak blocking the vines though, and my charr said he fought modrem in Iron Marches. I added it as (Charr)*Dialogue here* in the dialogue section as I'm not sure if it's the same with others. Will try it with my human character when I have time. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Banks1990 (talk) at 14:21, 16 August 2014 (UTC).
Ready... FIGHT![edit]
Details on the Possessed Statue fight perhaps are... lacking. And I'm too tired and butthurt to put this into proper wiki format for the main page. 15 stacks of confusion and WHAT GOOD DOES IT DO ME.
You can be nearly permachilled for this fight.
You can leave combat during this fight.
If your build relies on the enemy hurting themselves such as retaliate or confusion, or buffs... or anything that's not burst AND sustainable damage... You may wish to ignore Living World for the rest of your life.
Spectral Flames do sometimes move slowly and sometimes make a bee-line for you (possibly lag related) and some don't explode on contact but rather stay and just hurt hurt hurt (also possibly lag related). If you stand or run around and they think they've caught you you can dodge through their detonation. Clones confuse them and they will companionably sit next to one or more while you wail on the Menders.
It is nearly impossible to die as Rox will save you if you are downed and give you regeneration. I finally logged off because she just would not let me die and end my suffering... After being downed twice in a row in my attempts to JUST DIE my health stopped going below 50% and she stood on me shooting stuff... with her heal-ly guardian moves... WHY DO YOU HAVE TO BE SOOO NICE...
If you are stuck permachilled and need to get to the Mender let one of the Spectral Flames reach you and launch you halfway across the room.
Oh, and fear. FEAR EVERYWHERE. NOBODY MENTIONS THE FEAR! Two (usually two) destroyable fear generators will appear on the floor periodically (after the statue yells at you). They seem to begin appearing after 50% when the first shield goes down. Sucks to be you if you get knocked into one. They can spawn on top of each other and seem to like being across from each other (not one in front of the other between the statue and the door but one to each side of the room) sometimes blocking a hefty portion of the floor between the statue and the door and occasionally connecting. This fear lasts... FOR.... EV.... ER. Getting knocked down by the statue or one of the Spectral Flames seems to remove it. Clones seem to still respond to commands unless commanded to run back into the fear spot and then they'll run right back out, the sissies.

Feedback 2015/07/25[edit]
Good Luck! completing this one solo; I've tried on a Guardian and an Elementalist and refuse to keep trying. There may be some who can or have no problem, but imo it's set too harsh. Veldakay speaks truth about the Possessed Statue battle that I can totally identify with. --98.145.79.6 18:06, 25 July 2015 (UTC)
I Couldn't agree more. Even using skills to cripple or block the Menders only draws out the length of the fight and I spent an hour just to get the Possessed Statue's health bar down to 80%. 66.183.94.88 05:26, 5 February 2016 (UTC)
I loved GW1 but I left GW2 for 5 years because of stuff like this.[edit]
I've been back for a while and enjoying things and I decided to catch up on Season 2. But now I'm so very very sad.
See, 1) I play to relax and enjoy the art and the lore and the poking about and the dailies and stuff like that. You know, to escape a little into an intriguing virtual world. 2) Sometimes I think I'm an OK player but other times I think meh, I'm pretty mediocre. I hit the wrong buttons sometimes (particularly when things get very heated). I mistarget an important skill or miss a dodge. Whatever, I'd put myself in the "I can play OK" category but below all these people I see with many 1000s of points, massive damage attacks, multiple sets of above exotic armor, etc etc. I'm good with it and I am not a usually burden in a party; I know why I play and how I play and what I care about and where I shouldn't go.
Then, the idiot game designers throw something like this at me. This is just ridiculous for a player with my build, my choice of character (a conditions mesmer), and my personal skills. Making something like this task a requirement in a solo story line is just wrong-headed and misguided. So I guess I was wrong in returning and thinking the game had changed.
I guess I'll go beg for some help. Because if I try this again alone, I know it will cause me to lose my GW2 password. -- ZeeWabbit (talk) 17:18, 7 August 2019 (UTC)

Hi. Hope this is the way to add to the discussion page, that's what I wanted to do. Just wanted to let everyone know that there is a 'cheat' for this chapter and achievements, found on google when I was going through all the same BS you all were even 6 years or so later being late to this game. Anyway there is a spot to the right as you are facing the statue up broken stairs where you kind of float in the air and you wont be able to be hit and you can range attack the statue, menders and ghosts. Please google it, took me like four solo tries to get all achievements but probably could have done it in two. Only like 5 minutes to complete. P.S. Why isn't this page called "Foefire Cleansing"? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Gr8whtbufl (talk) at 14:56, 7 May 2020 (UTC).
- It isn't Foefire cleansing because of the name in story journal, which is plan of attack. As to the bug, Anet often don't remove old bugs that aren't open world :) DJemba (talk) 15:03, 7 May 2020 (UTC)
Feedback 2021/6/3[edit]
Going through this for the "Return to Dragons' Reach" event and I noticed two and half things.
1. The cheese spot mentioned in the main article I believe was patched out. As I approached the little slope to get into position I was hit with two abilities for 75 damage that invalidated both "Strikes Over" and "Dont Knock Yourself Out"
1.5 This might related to 1 but I also noticed after successfully dodging a power attack, it seemed i was on my way to getting the achievement but something randomly invalidated the achievement. I dont know if it was a fear ward or just not getting out of the way of something else. I thought the statue only had one power attack so that was weird.
2. It should be noted that if you attack the Possessed Statue while waiting for the mender to cast their buff, and you get the statue down 10% in the time it takes to cast, it will stripe one stack of the buff. Making "Strikes over" that much longer to trigger. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Razor7576 (talk) at 03:30, 4 June 2021 (UTC).
- I can only speak for the "Strike's Over" achievement since I already got "Don't Knock Yourself Out" before June 2021 by standing in the 1500 range safe spot. July 8, 2021: I was able to stand in both safe spots (1200 and 1500 range) without losing my eligibility for "Strike's Over" until I got hit by the power strike attack. The 1200 range safe spot is no longer safe for "Strike's Over" without jumping or dodging. Both spots should be tested to see if they were patched out or still safe for "Don't Knock Yourself Out". Erianna (talk) 22:08, 8 July 2021 (UTC)
- March 8, 2023: I could get on the 1200 range safe spot on the wall. Tricky to jump up to (I couldn't do it without Quickness), but can practice the jump before talking to Rytlock to start the fight. If you're on the wall when the fight starts, you get moved down and have to jump up again. The spectral flames cannot reach you there, nor does Barradins regular (large) area attack. However, the small area (ceiling collapse) attacks do sometimes land on the spot, so you can't reliably cheese "Don't Knock Yourself Out" there. I worked for me the 2nd attempt. It's also still very helpful for avoiding the spectral flames. You are not safe from the power strike for "Strike's Over" either, but can jump over it with a well timed jump in place.
