Source on name of groups?[edit]

Are we sure they are called orders? Are they not called alliances, allegiances, affiliations, guilds, factions, or just organizations? Are they even the same kind of organization? How do we know what to call them and is there even a purpose to this page (I find this as meaningful as [[Opposing Factions]] and the [[Heritage|various]] affiliation pages that are now known to be called social classes and heritages. -- Konig/talk 00:36, 3 June 2010 (UTC)

I do not get this what does it mean by orders? or whatever they are called♥Icyyy♥‎ User IcyyyBlue Elementalist Blue.png02:06, 3 June 2010 (UTC)
Orders... You know, groups? Not a very difficult concept, just think Order of Whispers, pretty much just a title for themselves. Personally, if these three are our only options, I'll join the Vigil, considering I never liked the Order of Whispers and being a Storyteller doesn't sound very fun gameplay-wise. The Vigil's do sound more interesting.--♥Icyyy♥‎ User IcyyyBlue Elementalist Blue.png 13:13, 9 June 2010 (UTC)
This seems to confirm that they're actually called "orders". Chriskang 09:16, 16 June 2010 (UTC)
In that case I suggest we move this to Order as every article name should be in the singular tense if possible. -- Konig/talk 15:59, 16 June 2010 (UTC)
Agreed. Chriskang 16:59, 16 June 2010 (UTC)

Do we need this page?[edit]

I'm questioning the necessity of this page, can't we just use that nav and link to the other orders on their pages, and maybe have a section+nav on the creation page?--Corsair@Yarrr 03:17, 3 June 2010 (UTC)

I started a discussion here so that it isn't all over the place. -- Konig/talk 03:45, 3 June 2010 (UTC)

locations[edit]

looks like they're near and around lions arch, maybe at around level 30 we'll get the choice of joining one Getefix 10:32, 28 April 2011 (UTC)

armor/weapons from the orders?[edit]

could someone please list/link to the armors and weapons you get from the orders? (particularly some screenshots) it would be helpful for deciding wich one to enter ^^ --MG127 20:32, 6 September 2012 (UTC)

changing order[edit]

I changed the remark bout being able to change orders. Even though Stephane said we would be able to do that with a little bit of effort, so far the only way I found is by creating another character. There have been people asking on fora and in game bout how to change it and it seems none have found a way. My conclusion is that for reasons we don't know the option to change has been removed and so I made the text consistent with the ingame situation. 195.240.63.18 11:12, 11 September 2012 (UTC)

Agreed. I would assume that the personal story is tied into the choice, and allowing a change creates trouble in the personal story options. I assume so because in the Bug Report forum, Anet was unable to fix missed personal story content for those that got skipped ahead in their story when playing as a group. Anet stated that it would open up options to select different choices and lead to more bugs. So the choice seems to be tied into more game mechanics than just what armor we can wear. I hope for a future patch to allow a change or option to get other armor. WAZUser Wazwolf wolf.gif 22:03, 24 September 2012 (UTC)
I am amazed at how short-sighted this feature of the game is. The player is asked to make a permanent decision about their character while not having any information about how it will impact them, except by accessing whatever info happens to show up on the wiki. Not only are they tying cosmetic options to this choice, but gameplay choices as well -- as it happens, I think the Priory's idea for the deciding mission is the best, but I usually pick the Whispers one. So I can either join the order that suits me overall by taking their idea that is less optimal for the mission, or I can do right by the mission and end up permanently joining an order that I'm mostly not in tune with. But it seems that my real long-term concern should be how my character looks in the order's armor, and as that turns out, the Vigil is best suited. This is horrible, horrible design. The player's alignment should not be determined solely by their last mission choice, and the armor appearance should at least have some variation of options that are more suitable for each race or profession, not just their alignment. I also raise the issue of not being able to switch or return to previous story branches... I understand Anet wanted "personal stories" to feel unique, but locking players out of game content is a really bad way to implement that (and ultimately, the player base still vastly outnumbers the permutations, so nothing is really unique anyway). And no, rolling new characters for each story branch is not an acceptable solution when there are so many branches and only five character slots and only one Real Life to play them in. 76.253.0.17 02:44, 3 November 2012 (UTC)

Transmutation[edit]

Is it possible, via Transmutation Stones, to have the look of multiple Orders Armor sets on the same character? For example, can my Thief (Order of Whispers) wear her own order's pants and boots, but then use the stone to change the appearance of her chest and gloves to match that of another order's armor? --Kristofferus 16:35, 11 December 2012 (UTC)

Just for the record, once a skin is unlocked it can be applied regardless of Order membership (as long as the armor weight is the same). Teknomancer (talk) 00:06, 14 March 2015 (UTC)

Comparison of orders[edit]

This is something that has been bugging me for a while now... The Order of Whispers, out of the three, is the only one that has a real sense of having been fleshed out. Mind you, I don't have a Priory character yet, so I can't adequately make a comparison here, but take a look at it compared to the Vigil. OoW appeared in Nightfall, and you got to join it there. The Order has members everywhere, and they have conversation options and information that you only get access to if you're a member. If you join Vigil, there's no real recognition of the fact that I have seen. Everyone treats you the same. Did they not bother to flesh it out beyond the gear and Personal Story paths? Is this still the case? It'd be helpful to have some mention on the page itself of how your choice of order affects later gameplay beyond just that one personal story arc (and the level 80 weapons/armor, of course). - Temerity (talk) 07:15, 16 February 2015 (UTC)
